I was very excited for this dinner as it was a birthday meal that my husband surprised me with. I let him do the ordering as there were many options available.
We had a reservation and were quickly seated. The menus were nice and not something you regularly see.
The server came over quickly to pour water into our glasses. He then came back again and gave us some insight on the menu, the many gin drinks and some back story. We then looked at the menu to figure out drinks and food options.
I was a bit intimidated by the drink options due to the ingredients but was very happy with the Golden Hour. I wasn't sure how much basil and nutmeg would be added but it was the right amount. Very frothy but small for the $20 price tag. The non alcoholic drinks are fairly pricey as well while still being delish. My husband had the Wedding Punch and it wasn't too bad; not as good as my drink of course.
We ordered all of our food and drinks at the same time. They brough the food out in courses which was perfectly timed. I was worried that too much time would go on between each where I would no longer be able to eat. To start, the King Crab Skewer, Funeral Croquettas and Bilbao Chorizo were the first to be served.
The chorizo were placed with a nice mustard sauce that was enjoyable. The chorizo itself had a toughness to it. It was okay.
The croquettas were my favorite. They were amazing. The sauce with the pickled garnish were fantastic. I couldn't stop eating them. In all honesty, if those were the only things I ate, I would have been very happy. Highly recommend.
The crab still confuses me. When I think of a skewer, I think of several placements of meat and vegetables. It now makes me understand why the server asked if we wanted more than one. A single piece of crab meat on a slightly larger toothpick was a disappointment for $15. Don't get me wrong, it was good but I prefer my crab from a seafood restaurant.
Next up was the bread and butter with confit garlic puree and shrimp al ajillo. Shrimp were beautifully cooked in a delicious scampi sauce. I used that sauce to dip a lot of different things in just because. The bread was advertised as the starter being 150 years old so I had high hopes. I have seen those videos on those that go through a lot to maintain their starters and I am not someone to commit. I did buy into that but later questioned it. The bread came out very warm. However the outside was very hard and the inside was quite dense. I wouldn't have been able to eat this without spreading something on it and dipping it in something else. It was not a star on its own accord. The bread and butter was $11 and cheaper places include this for free. With that, I would have expected the bread to just melt in my mouth.
Next up was the Campfire Elk Loin. This was pricey at $49. Beautiful presentation. The blackberries melted in your mouth which is very hard to do. They didn't add anything to the dish though. The bacon was cut up around the elk but was much more fatty than meat. The mash potatoes to elk was sparce and I would have enjoyed a bit more. The cook on the meat was more of a medium versus a medium rare that was ordered. I am not sure what was on the elk and potatoes but could only assume it was crushed pistachios. Whatever it was, it wasn't necessary.
Lastly, we had the Dulce Stuffed Churros. I am not a big sweet person but my husband is and absolutely loved them. I thought they were actually pretty good but I was pretty full at this point. They came out so fresh and hot. The sauce provided was way too much for the amount of churros provided but very tasty. At $10 for the dish, worth it!
The service was good. They have staff coming around to clear empty plates quite frequently. The one taking your order and delivering food are not the same person. I found it a bit redundant that the one delivering the food specified what it was and then the server would then state the same; often while we were chewing. Overall, I enjoyed this but won't...
Read moreThis place is amazing! We chose to come here for a special anniversary date! Right upon arrival, we went ahead and chose to use valet. It was $15. It helped us escape the traffic and took the stress off parking. When entering the restaurant area, just outside the door, there are some opportunities for some cute pics. We were greeted immediately and taken back to ...OUR DOME! The whole restaurant has a please atmosphere, lighting and decor. Everything was clean. They have some fires going outside, it's nice to eat anywhere there, but the dome is THE experience. Haha. Inside is heating and cooling elements that can be adjusted to your preference. The lighting is fun and playful as well. They have a speaker inside that you can Bluetooth and put whatever you'd like on. The seating is comfortable, and the whole setting is very romantic. You can choose to complete close the door or leave it open. Service was absolutely phenomenal! We had Ross as our waiter, and he took AMAZING care of us and went above and beyond! He made great pairing suggestions, and also shared drink, and dessert preferences. He was very attentive and friendly! He also helped us get some cute photos! Very pleasant, thorough man! Now, to the best part.. I bet you've been waiting... haha. THE FOOD! Oh, man. The food was sooo good!!!! We started with the Shrimp al Ajilo and Sourdough Bread, suggested as a pairing. *Do it! It was so good! It was one of my favorite parts! The bread there is delicious, and the shrimp is garlicky good!!! We also got the Papa Bravas, delicious potatoes!! The flavors on them are so good!! We also tried the Farmer's Market Pistou it's a veggies dish, with various squashes a top some corn pudding. This was probably my least favorite dish, although not bad. For my main course, I had the Chicken Savora, and my husband had their Pork Chop Asador. Honestly, I was disappointed in my chicken dish. It was esthetically beautiful, the chicken was very well cooked, the skin was nice and crisp and the chicken moist, however it lacked in my opinion. The flavor profiles are so incredibly delicious on the other items. The chicken was kind of bland and boring in comparison. They should use the papa's or shrimp seasonings, and it would be bomb! Haha. The mustard sauce that comes with it was fine. But I was left feeling like I should've ordered something else. My husband's Pork Chops however were very tasty and flavored wonderfully! The corn pairing was so delicious as well! Cocktails and dessert were perfect!! We enjoyed 3 different cocktails (one we ordered twice) - The Raspberry Days. It was so good! Get it! We enjoyed all of the cocktails!! The others we chose were the Strawberry Armada (delicious) and the The Colleague creation, Don Pistatxio de la Matcha. This drink was very good! It was like a little dessert treat on its own! It's very unique and definitely worth a try! To end it, we got the Burnt Cheesecake! It was very, very good! The texture is pleasant, and the berry compote on top was delicious! It was a great option for GF people as well! Other things worth mentioning- Their is a balcony with a nice city view for an alternative setting, and if you can't swing the extra dome cost! ($100) The manager was amazing! Very nice and personable, took pics of us outside the area after dining and looked out for us during our visit. A second mention to Ross, our waiter, for being so awesome!
This is a SPLURGE dining experience. It is pricey, but it...
Read moreWent here on a Friday night for a friend's birthday, we were a party of 4. 7:30 reservation. When we arrived, I was surprised at how empty the place was. Maybe 35-40% capacity. The inside of the restaurant was very nice, our party opted to sit outside. They do have the little globes you can sit in that are temp controlled, but we were seated at a regular outdoor table. For such an upscale place, I thought the outdoor seating that wasn't in the globes was lackluster. Also beware that the reflection from the glass of the building makes it very hot.
We were all super excited to try this place, but left feeling a bit disappointed unfortunately. Our server was nice enough, but a bit odd and service was very slow. We ordered sodas and cocktails after sitting down, sodas took 10 min to come out, cocktails took another 10 min at least.
The staff really emphasize the "family style" sharing of the tapas. You assume that with their wording and the prices (!!) you'll only need to order a few dishes, this is not the case. Each dish is very small, they say 3 to 4 servings, but I'd argue they were all more like 2 to 3 at best.
To our surprise, they were out of many things we wanted to try. Scallops, funeral potato croquettas, one of the tuna dishes, and something else I can't remember. For a seemingly slow Friday night we found this strange.
Cocktails - tasty, but I'm getting sick of upscale places thinking $20 for a drink is an acceptable price, especially in Utah. You'd have to drop like $80 to get a buzz on, no thanks.
Food -
Brussels sprouts were tasty, but we found them to be dry, only had a singular piece of iberico bacon, in need of a sauce or glaze.
Meatballs were very good, but not sure how they are Northern Spanish inspired? Meatballs with marinara on mashed potatoes doesn't scream Spain to me, but what do I know.
We were stoked for the sourdough after being told the starter was over 150 years old, homemade butter and jelly, etc. For $15, I was literally expecting a full loaf, enough for the whole table. To say I was shocked when THREE PIECES OF TOASTED BREAD on a tiny plate came out would be an understatement. Like it was definitely good bread, butter, and jelly, high quality, etc, but $15?! Utter madness.
Papas bravas were tasty to me but the rest of our group didn't enjoy them. My friends found them a bit chewy. I thought they had great flavor though.
Didn't get a picture but we also tried the elk loin - it was again tasty, but considerably tough for a loin cut and a tiny portion for the $50 price tag.
Note - the staff comped us some churros since they were out of so many menu items and they were really good!
TL;DR - we had high expectations and ultimately the food / service / atmosphere fell short, especially taking into account the considerable cost. Still can't get over the sourdough... I'll be talking about that for...
