For two years my husband and I searched for the perfect engagement ring for me. Yes, I said my husband. We will be married seventeen years on November 30th. Two years ago he learned the ring he proposed with the first time wasn’t exactly what I wanted. At the time I didn’t have the heart to tell him “yes” and “can we exchange the ring?” He had the ring made from a picture I gave him and couldn’t return it. It was really my mistake because there were several rings in the picture. I thought I was clear when I pointed to the ring I wanted, but ultimately it didn’t really matter, because I was marrying the love of my life. Besides, the ring he gave me was a little of me and a little of him, and I loved it all the same.
Fifteen years later we were talking about renewing our vows and I mentioned a new ring. Learning that I hadn’t gotten what I wanted the first time, he felt terrible and was determined to find and gift me with my dream ring. For two years we searched through countless websites, took numerous screen shots, archived dozens of rings on our phones, found “the one” at least four times, only to find another “one” a week later. Finally, I found one I wanted to see in person. It was a unique delicate beauty with pink diamonds (Gasp!) that I found on a website called Jean Dousset. On the site I could create my own ring, add a signature stone and look at the ring from every angle. It was so beautiful. It had color, which I wanted and tradition, also a part of me. My husband reached out to Jean Dousset to make an appointment.
Angela Giorgio, arranged for us to meet with Seinne Fleming. When we arrived at the Jean Dousset showroom we realized that this wasn’t going to be a shopping experience, we were being treated to a design experience. It was a space for creating dreams and making them come true. Then we met Seinne. She was personable, kind, patient and knowledgeable. At that point, we knew we were in the right place and ready for what proved to be an experience that matched their beautiful jewelry.
Seinne showed us the ring with pink diamonds. It was gorgeous. I also asked to see the colored gemstone rings I had seen on their website. Seinne brought out five more rings. When I saw the Purple Spinel I was like a moth to a flame. While I tried on every ring, it was the Purple Spinel to which I kept returning. Looking at that ring, I forgot about all other rings. Jean Dousset’s design was impeccable. It was feminine and delicate while being bold. The craftsmanship was precise and enhanced the design. It took my breath away. We didn’t buy the ring that day, but a couple of day’s later my husband contacted Seinne to make my dream come true. She, of course, made our process seamless, and one week later we were back in the showroom for the unveiling.
When we sat down one of our favorite Sade songs was playing, Love Is Found. I tapped Greg, “Do you hear the song that’s playing?” Of course he did. After all, he and Seinne in wanting to make the moment memorable, planned to have the song playing when my husband put the ring on my finger.
Seinne brought out a Jean Dousset signature black box. Inside was a smaller black box, a black pouch with a wedding band to match the engagement ring, a travel pouch and accessories to clean my rings. When my husband opened the lighted box (yes angels sang when it opened), before he could get out the words to propose a second time, I said, “Yes.” Yes to the ring and yes to another 70 years with my love.
Thank you Greg. Thank you Seinne. Thank you Jean Dousset. #feelinggrateful
PS My husband had the engagement ring engraved. Can you guess what it said? Yep,...
Read moreWhen I started searching for rings I looked online and visited several local stores. I was drawn to Jean's website and the thought of being able to create a unique one of a kind ring so I sent him an email which he responded back to immediately! Yes, he sent me a personal email!
I was nervous when I started ring shopping. I have a tendency to be "dazzled” and “over-sold". It's not that I'm an idiot, exactly... it's just that I didn't know that much about diamonds. I'd done the obligatory "4 C" research... but didn't really understand how each contributed to the value of the stone. Jean took the time to explain to me, in detail, what the 4 Cs were and which ones were the most important and why.
It did not take me long to decide to work with Jean… and after seeing the reaction to my fiancée’s ring, I am continually reminded that I made the right decision. Heidi’s ring is a custom-made piece of art and is nothing short of stunning. She is complimented on it constantly and has even been stopped by strangers wanting to admire it.
When I started working with Jean, I was not only surprised, but delighted with top-notch customer service. During the buying process, I sent Jean a hundred emails, each with at least ten questions. Each email was answered promptly with enough detail to be helpful, but not so much as to be confusing. I never received a copy-paste or canned response. The service was the same before, during, and after the sale. Jean's customer service team still checks in with me every couple of months to make sure we're still happy with our purchase.
I was also really impressed with Jean’s integrity. He asked my budget and stayed within it. I was never pressured to spend more.
While education, customer service, and integrity were important factors in my decision to work with Jean, the deciding factor was the ring. I was buying a ring for the woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. She is one-in-a-million, and I didn't want her to have the same ring that everyone else had. I didn't want to walk into a store and buy the same stock-setting that a hundred other people had purchased... I wanted it to be unique. And it was. Jean hand-selects all of his diamonds. After the diamond selection is complete, his workshop in Beverly Hills hand-makes every setting. Everything about the ring was custom... from the metal work to the hand-set micro-pave... nobody will ever have the same ring.
The ring truly is a piece of art Heidi and I will treasure for the rest of our lives. I cannot recommend Jean highly enough! If you are looking to give a one-of-a-kind gift to someone special in your life, Jean Dousset is the...
Read moreSitting in on an initial consultation with Angela at Jean Dousset disarmingly feels like catching up with a dear old friend. Not only is Angela an incredibly attentive associate, she is charismatic, witty and warm. The industry of luxury brands can sometimes be teeming with a certain type of coldness and pretention, where the urgency to swipe your credit card outweighs any real reverence for the process of finding that special someone the perfectly beautiful ring. JD’s boutique is a welcome breath of fresh air in this sense; their shop is elegant but quaint, welcoming and intimate. Angela and her colleague Jane, whom I assume quietly but meticulously keeps the operation a well-oiled machine, value your time and ideas and are incredibly intuitive in understanding your concerns before you even address them. There was absolutely no sense of rushing us in our process and they were happy to slip in technical information and the occasional anecdote to inform our decisions at our own pace. Call me old-fashioned, but a little conversational wining and dining really does go a long way.
Still, do not be deceived by the boutique’s charm; Angela is an absolute master at her craft and her professional knowledge is unparalleled. From the different methods of measuring diamond quality via refractions to the blind spots within a GIA report depending on the shape of the diamond, Angela will be completely transparent about where the diamonds fit within the spectrum of rarity and quality. It was clear that JD values craftsmanship and artistry above all, as it appears that JD only uses investment grade diamonds to work with at a reasonable price point. Premiums and pomp and circumstance are thrown out the door to prioritize giving us the perfect ring.
I highly recommend Jean Dousset to anyone looking for the perfect ring-buying experience. All technical and professional aspects aside, Angela and her team at Jean Dousset were really invested in creating something beautiful and meaningful for someone I loved. I couldn’t be...
