Góvinda — Restaurant in Prague

Simplistic and fantastic

Starting with the food - The taste was wonderful. It was non-greasy, tasted like it was cooked with care and love. The restaurant has a standard menu - Rice + Vegetables + One dessert + Soup. The quantity is sufficient. Soup and the dessert are the highlight of the menu. There are 2 options available - Small menu (Limited to one serving) Large Menu ( multiple servings). There are a lot of sweet dishes on offer. I absolutely loved their "Balaram". Its soft, nutty and sweetened right. And yes, its a vegetarian restaurant Coming to the ambiance - The restaurant is hidden in quiet little building. It is very quiet inside. No flamboyant interiors - metal plates, cups and cutlery. The place is colorful with lots of beautiful pictures. It is also very clean and well maintained. Finally the service - Always with a smile, (also) English speaking, open to engage in small talk.

What stuck me most in the restaurant was the simplicity in every aspect of the experience. I have been here a few times and will continue to visit them...

Good vegetarian food, sweets, seconds for a large plate free of charge. Major drawback is handling of closing hours. Just around the time, personnel starts flipping chairs putting it on the tables and cleaning all of the tables, including yours. With unconcealed impertinence he stands by your table and waits until you put the last bite in your mouth, so he can almost snatch the plate from you, no caring if you spill your drink out of cup that you are still holding in your hand. Don´t expect any polite notice that the restaurant is closing. If you are a hot-tempered person and you care about personnel´s safety, I suggest you to visit this restaurant at least one hour before closing hour, or take a few more metro stops and visit the Govinda Palmovka restaurant, where you can sit long enough, so you can quietly eat the food.

Dobré vegetariánske jedlo, sladkosti, prídavky zdarma k veľkému menu. Veľkým mínusom je riešenie zatváracích hodín. Personál začne hneď okolo záverečnej vykladať stoličky na stoly a upratovať všetky, vrátane vášho. S neskrývanou drzosťou postáva pri vás a čaká, kedy do seba konečne hodíte posledné sústo aby vám mohol spod rúk takmer vytrhnúť podnos pre jedlo, nevenujúc pri tom veľkú pozornosť tomu, či rozlejete nápoj z pohára, ktorý v ruke ešte stále držíte. Žiadneho zdvorilého upozornenia na zatváranie sa tu nedočkáte. Ak ste výbušnej povahy a leží vám na srdci bezpečnosť personálu, doporučujem navštíviť túto reštauráciu minimálne jednu hodinu pred záverečnou, alebo sa zviesť pár staníc metrom do Govindy na Palmovku, kde môžete po záverečnej pri jedle pokojne sedieť...

I rate it 5 * because.... :) I landed Prague airport and check-in my hotel at malistrava.. i was searching for a desi indian restaurant and I found Govinda in new town... Food was desi.. there are two denomination of thalis during lunch. And apart from food the desi ambiance and everything was superb. I was carrying Euro's but at checkout they gave me CZK currency.. where they charge 1 euro = 24 czk.. although the bank rate was 26.something..

But okay.. no worries. As my welcome to Prague was...
