DISCLAIMER: The service and waiting time for this restaurant deserves a 3 star, but they redeemed themselves with the meal. I was initially going to critique this place heavily, but the meat heavy platter was a save.
THE GOOD A.The food.
You must get the pork knuckle and the duck here. The pork knuckle had a surprisingly large amount of meat, with a perfect mix of fat, meat and crackling skin of different textures. The fat melted in your mouth and the meat was salty with great moist texture. I wish there was more crispy crackle (mostly it was on the bottom) but it was a phenomenal meal.
The duck leg. My friends favourite dish because of the texture and flavour. The potato gnocci and sauce really added to the dish. Unfortunately there was not enough meat on the bone to satisfy one person, but we were sharing so we were more than fine. Recommend highly.
The ribs were cooked perfectly with an ample amount of meat and a BBQ sauce flavour. Good ribs. Decent choice.
B. The price: We were more than full after this meal and we each got a large beer or cocktail as well. It came to about 400 ckz which was so reasonable for such a central touristy area.
THE BAD We expected bad service looking at the reviews. But we were surprised by how bad. We waited for 1.5 hours at 630pm. People behind us were lined outside into the cold, with no waiting area or seats. There were only 3 cooks as far as I could see and this resulted in the staff being overworked. Both waiters were taking forever to clear dishes, provide bills etc. Staff did not seem to smile either and we felt really uncomfortable. Essentially if you are in line, you are ignored. However when we were finally served it was obvious how hard the waiters were working, and they were actually very pleasant. Food came out in under 20 minutes so that was good too. The atmosphere was cosy and casual. Nice tables, clean and good separation from other customers.
All in all if you are feeling a meat heavy, Eastern European dinner in the area (that is well priced and has great pork knuckle) then you should try this place out. Also the beer beef goulash looked...
Read moreWe found the restaurant 'Mlejnice' in TripAdvisor's top of 'best local cuisines'. Since the rating was pretty high and the reviews were quite impressive, we tried to book a table in advance. Unfortunately, it is not possible to do it online. Actually, we also tried to call the restaurant for a couple of times - no reply. Therefore, we decided just to walk in.
The plan was to arrive around 7pm for a dinner. However, we finished our 'tourist tour' earlier at that day and approached 'Mlejnice' at 6:30pm. By the entrance, there were already two couples, queuing. At the beginning, we intended to leave and find another place to eat. Thanks God, we changed our mind and stayed in the queue. That was super wisdom decision!
We were lucky - after approx 30min of waiting, the nice waitress let us in. She was very friendly and welcoming. We ordered two the most popular dishes: the goulash, served in a bun (kind of bread bowl) and the pork knee. Talking about the pork knee, it was enormous! I would say, enough for two-three people! Yet, extremely delicious! Same to the goulash! No more words - just try them!
Regarding drinks, they serve dark/black beer that we never tried before. Nothing to do with 'Guinness' - totally different taste! Very easy drinkable, light and fresh. Another point - the wine they offer. It comes from the wine region Morava (Moravian wines). The restaurant serve white/red/rose wine from the winery 'SEDLÁK'. The SEDLÁK family winery is already in its fourth generation, dating back to 1918. No matter how old this winery exists and where it came from, the wine was absolutely gorgeous!
The staff was very attentive and kind. We had two waiters, the lady I mentioned before (with a very beautiful smile and great manners), and the Italian man (I believe), who were highly professional and proactive (in a good way).
We left the restaurant at 8:15pm. The queue outside made us crazy! About 15 people were waiting to take a table! We didn't expect such popularity of the restaurant.

Read moreSo let me write some honest review from beginning of experience till the end:
First we came and restaurant was full and we had to wait ca 10min to get a free table which I think is pretty quick if you go in restaurant that is known for their great food.
Then we ordered 2 biers, pork ribs and koleno. Staff was friendly and polite, they were in no hurry and very professional. One of the staff also noticed that my beer glass is empty with question if I would like another one which I did.
After that came our food which we waited approx. 15-20min and it was AMAZING. The best food experience till yet in Prague.
Meet was so soft that you could eat it with a spoon and delicious as a bottle of water in desert. Koleno was heaven
All in all I would VERY recommend this restaurant for anyone who visit Prague and is scrooling through thousands restaurants and reviews on tripadvisor/ google and can’t decide where to go because his wife is very hungry and he is in hurry to decide.
THING ABOUT NEGATIVE COMMENTS I saw many negative reviews about staff and understand that people sometimes come here hungry and are maybe waiting for food more than they expected and have bad words about staff.
Let’s make it simple we are all people and we want all and now and on the other side is sometimes guy or woman that is working 10h shift that has to pay the bills.
Be polite, if you came here to eat THIS IS THE PLACE TO EAT...
