Please understand I am an international student studying in Prague, so living here, I understand the basic formalities when eating in Prague (language gap/cultural differences, etc.). But I’ve never had an experience quite like this one.
My two girlfriends and I arrive before another group of four were to join us. Obviously, it is a Saturday night (we completely understand if the place is booked, we expect it to be, just came on happen chance). Luckily, we find a small table in the front seating area, waiting until the back (beer tables) open up. We were told by a male host that all back tables were taken until further notice. One table of seven gets up and leaves, we inquired a second time if we could sit there (our friends were on the way) the gentleman was very curt and direct saying we had to have a reservation, as a party was on their way to take that exact table. We waited for a solid 20 minutes (thinking) this reservation would show up. No one came. Finally, our friends arrived. Our friends this time inquired (now a third time) because there was nowhere for them to sit in the front. They asked a different hostess if we could have a back table (at this point five huge tables are open, more people have left, and not one person has come in the bar/pub). She looked at us annoyed, and said sure. We sit. We drink. Casual. It’s all good, whatever. Then we go to pay.
Our original waitress rudely chastises us for moving tables (Look- I get it. I’ve worked as a waitress and in the food industry, that’s so frustrating!). BUT the kicker is, we tried paying multiple times before we moved tables, and she ignored us! Ok. If you don’t want to collect payment on YOUR service, there’s not much I can do as a customer? ESPECIALLY when it’s not busy. She tries to split the check three ways. Well, unfortunately for her, I didn’t order two Mai Thai’s- my friend did. We ask if we can split the check individually. This waitress straight up ROLLS her eyes and then proceeds to talk mad smack to the other two waitresses and male host in Czech. Laughing and glaring proceeds from all four staff members sitting there staring at us, as we are trying to awkwardly pay.
Ironically, we had a friend’s birthday planned there next week, but we ended up canceling due to how horrible this experience was. It’s so unfortunate because the pub concept really is cool, food is decent, but the hassle doesn’t make up for it. Also unfortunate because they just lost business from 10 college students who know good beer when they taste it and are here for the next four months.... but oh...
Read moreBE CAREFUL! I have been here a couple of times and also at the same place at Nove Butovice. Usually everything was good however today the waiter wanted to overcharge us. We had 4 burgers and 3.65l of beer. When we wanted to pay he just told us that the bill is 3710 czk with the service/tip included. We payed and realized that it was way too much since the price of one burger is 299 czk. We asked for the receipt a couple of times and the waiter was ignoring us. After 20 min of asking him again and again for the receipt he finally gave it to us and it was 1675 czk so he added 2035 czk extra (he was going to rob us of about 80eur in case we did not realize and complain) to the receipt which is mind-boggling. After that we told him we want our money back, he gave us our money back but insisted we still leave him the service fee/tip. I explained that this is outrageous as him robbing us and being rude after obviously should not entail a tip. This was crazy and after we told him we don’t want to tip him he was really rude. He kept asking again and again why we didn’t want to tip (after wanting to overcharge 2000 czk which is around 80€). His excuse was it was his first day which was such a lie (you could easily see that he was familiar with everything, besides that even if it is your first day how can you charge 3710 czk instead of 1675 czk). Icing on the top was that he seemed really drunk and was drinking on the job. IF YOU GO HERE PLEASE BE CAREFUL AND ASK FOR THE BILL BEFORE YOU PAY. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW THE EXCHANGE RATE FROM EURO TO CZK. FYI I AM PRETTY SURE HE DID THE SAME THING TO THE TABLE NEXT TO US SINCE I HEARD GUYS CALCULATING A LOT AFTER THEY PAYED. This happened on the 4th of Dec, 2022 at around 6pm. The waiter who did this to us was an older man, around 40yrs old, and was wearing a...
Read moreI spent an evening drinking in "The PUB" with around 10 of my Erasmus-Friends. The idea of self service beer taps on the tables is nice and the beer was decent, but there were several issues towards the end. First, after asking to pay, the litre counter on our table was deactivated so we could no longer see the exact amount that we drank. Then, we were served a completely wrong bill of more than 11000 kč which included several meals while we hadn't eaten anything at all, we only had tap beer. After discussing with the waiter, he gave us another bill (~2700 kč) which looked a little too high but more or less correct and he apologized. I meant to remain in good faith and believe that this was an honest mistake but after reading multiple comments here that experienced similar sketchy things regarding the bill, I tend to believe that they were purely trying to rip us off, maybe thinking we didn't know the currency well enough to realize how much they were trying to charge or whatever. Even if it was an honest mistake, something like this has never happened to me in other bars, pubs or restaurants and it mustn't be able to happen. The above aside, we weren't allowed to pay separately which made it very difficult to distribute the bill fairly underneath us after someone had to pay upfront. I understand that the concept of table-wise self tapping might make it difficult to split the bill so it's not necessarily on the waiters, but it is still something to consider for larger groups. All in all, unfortunately I can only advise anyone to look for other pubs or bars. There are...
