There were many many places offering Nyonya food, espeicially this area of Jonker Walk. This was really a very very pleasant one - food quality, price and service. My family and I were impressed!
The setting is bright, homely (just like their name "Our Kitchen"!!) and staff were actually friendly (unlike first impression 😅). Place is air-conditioned (is cooling kind, won't feel hot while eating for sure).
We ordered a table of dishes and had mainly pork cos owner advice that their local pork is better. True enough, the Pork Ponteh tasted so good! Even the Pork Rib Buah Keluah was a surprise! The lady staff taught us to dig out the black paste from the black "bean" and put on rice then eat with the meat. Lemak Nenas Squid was good and not like just normal curry kinda gravy in other food. Ngo Hiang Rolls and Pai Tee surprised us with simple fare but very nice texture. Their sambal was superb and fragrant, not just plain spicy flavour. We added Fried Chicken at emd and love that the batter is thin yet coats well on the chicken along with laksa leaves, crispy. Didn't buy home their sambal but think next time I will try buy again.
To be honest initially when we arrived, we gave second thoughts cos it was empty during dinner time. Turns out it was cos others came in later, so glad we didn't judge and skip them. So happy to have ate here and we look forward to...
Read moreIf you're looking to enjoy a Peranakan meal, I would strongly advise against visiting this place. Right from the start, we encountered issues with the order-taking app, and the poor lady attending to us struggled to complete our orders in a timely manner.
We decided to order Beef Rendang, Babi Pongteh, Assam fish, Ngoh Hiang, and a sambal vegetable dish. Unfortunately, the food was a disappointment. The rendang meat was tough and chewy, the Assam fish gravy had an unpleasant fishy taste, and the Ngoh Hiang looked as if it had been bought from a supermarket. The only dish that met our expectations was the Babi Pongteh.
When we brought up the issue of the stale-tasting Assam fish to the owner, they were kind enough to offer us another dish as a gesture of goodwill. However, the replacement fish was not cooked thoroughly, leaving us disappointed once again.
To make matters worse, the portion sizes were small, and yet we ended up paying just under 200 ringgit for our unsatisfying meal.
Given the subpar food quality and overall experience, I have no intention of returning to this restaurant, despite the satisfactory service...
Read moreMy husband and I were searching for a hearty Nyonya meal during our visit, and this is definitely the place along Jonker Street.
Especially one lovely aunty who made our time there so comfortable and special. As she was clearing our dishes before dessert, she noticed we hadn't touched the buah keluak - a signature ingredient in nyonya cuisine. When we thought it was just a nut used for seasoning, she patiently showed us how to properly dig it out and savor all the incredible flavors. We had no idea, and were so grateful she took the time to guide us through it & explained the tedious process in the kuah keluak's filling. Her attentiveness and passion for sharing the authentic Nyonya flavors really made our meal so special.
Just probably some parts of the pork ponteh was a little tough- could have braised a little longer. But the rest were good
Thank you for the wonderful experience ❤️ We will definitely be back again for our...
