I am torn as I write this review…
While we had a very nice dinner at Hacienda for my husband’s birthday, there are issues that shouldn’t happen in a restaurant like this.
The views are fantastic and my guess is that’s what you pay for, because it is EXPENSIVE. Like US prices expensive.
While this is something we expected from a restaurant like this, we did not expect some of the following issues:
When I asked for a paper menu, the waiter talked back and said I have a phone so what do I need the menu for? Then took 15 minutes to get me the menu as if he was doing me a favor, after repeated reminders. No bueno!
Something else that pains me: no prices on the online menu that they make you scan! It seems super sketchy.
The molcajete for two portion size (for $45!) was seriously pathetic. One chorizo sausage cut in half, one slice of cheese cut in half, a chicken tenderloin each (yes the small loin off of the breast) and a skimpy slice of steak each. WHAT THE HECK!? Then, They didn’t bring us the tortillas for the dinner because we had TWO left from the queso. We had to ask for the tortillas that accompany the dinner.
Thank god we got starters because we would have died of hunger. They cheat you with presentation but there is nothing inside the actual molcajete, except a bean salsa sauce.
The quest fundido was good, but it was more like a chunk of melted cheese, and when it cooled down, it was hardened goo.
Guacamole was tasty, as were the homemade chips. Good flavor, but tiny portion.
The margaritas were nice and alcoholic -although they’re hard to mess up.
The birthday churros we’re definitely a highlight and are seriously good! Get those!
All in all, worth the views and exclusivity, not worth the money in food quantity. Take what you...
Read moreThe location is amazing. Beautiful oceanfront dining and the Hacienda resort is stunning. There was a real nice trio playing live music. Great setting! However, after reading so many great reviews, the food was a huge disappointment to both my wife and I. We started with an octopus dish that I was really excited to try. It was decent - nowhere near any of my favorite octopus dishes, but pretty good.
I had read great reviews about the fish of the day and I thought it was borderline terrible. I couldn't eat more than a few bites of the fish... dry and totally flavorless. The mango salsa and the rice and plantains (correction, 1 small piece of plantain) were tasty, but the fish just killed the dish. When they cleared my plate, I had eaten all the rice and mango salsa, but the fish was almost all still in the plate.
Wife went for the ribeye and lobster combo. The ribeye was, no exaggeration, thinner than a crappy steak at Denny's. I was seriously stunned when it came out. Absolutely ridiculous. Lobster was fine, nothing remarkable.
Honestly, even my mojito was mediocre. Service was friendly, but I never got the wine list I asked for when our entrees arrived. In summary... amazing location, mediocre food. No idea why this place gets such great reviews...
Read moreThis is hands down the best Mexican food I've ever tasted, wrapped around in a perfect half-outdoor ambiance right next to the sea. The place is beautiful, the seats are colorful, and the tables are spaced out enough so that you can have a conversation. The place is absolutely vibrant both visually, audibly, as well as tastefully.
We headed to this place initially for some post-lunch dessert, especially the fresh churros. And yes, they are made fresh with caramel and chocolate sauces. Seriously, if you have not had proper churros, this is it. The quatro leches cake was also simply out of this world.
We later returned to this restaurant to celebrate my parent's 40th wedding anniversary dinner. And my god, every single dish hit it out of the park whether it was the meat/veggie mixture to wrap with tortillas or the shrimp in some magical red sauce. Ingredients were fresh and succulent. Oh did I mention they make guacamole fresh in front of your eyes?
This is a true gem of Cabo San Lucas. And yes, it will cost you $200+ for a meal for 4 (and even more if you mix in alcohol). But it is totally worth it. Will return...
