Beautifully decorated hotel bar. The cocktail menu is chic. Drinks are very well made and though expensive they felt like that rare thing outside of New York or London; a great cocktail served with some style (though the coupe that the Eastern Standard was served in must have come from a dolls house - size of an egg up)! But oh the service…. On arrival in the essentially empty bar (see photos) I took a seat to await my companion. The hostess came over (with clipboard) looked down her nose at me (I lived in London for decades, this silly private club attitude is imported I think, and is laughable) and took ages perusing her papers until she declared that I would have to move as they were only serving certain sections at present. She then had me move to a couch literally less than 10 feet away! There was no apparent demarcation, no ropes off areas, etc. Any waiter could have moved to my chair as easily as they subsequently came to the couch she put me on. Because of where they took drinks from at the bar, there was absolutely no difference in the distance. Ten minutes later there were people sitting in the chairs and it didn’t seem to bother her. When the friendly and polite waiter arrived, I gave our order; two cocktails by name, from a list of about 8. He stood with his pen and pad and then confessed he didn’t know them so asked me to point them out on the list. I did this. He then stood over us (we were sat on the couch) and write the two cocktails down in longhand. It seemed interminable. Before he looked up and asked if we wanted olives (we said no thank you) and then he left. It really was very weird having him loom over us such that we couldn’t resume a private conversation for what seemed like an age. When he returned with drinks he brought olives too! If you are going to charge such prices you need to deliver impeccable service. This was not it. I had watched as an apparent briefing was given in a corner of the bar to several wait staff. Add ‘know the drinks menu’ to the briefing (and the soup of the day etc). Customer service is ultimately about making guests feel comfortable. Hence the low rating. You made us feel awkward twice.

Came here for dinner on my birthday and left quite underwhelmed. We ordered the following: Prosciutto pizza, tagliatelle bolognese and 2 glasses of prosecco. The drinks came out quite promptly after ordering, yet mine came in a chipped glass. After mentioning that to the waitress they quickly changed that. Both the tagliatelle bolognese and the prosciutto pizza were quite basic in flavour and lacked a punch. The pasta sauce was quite oily and heavy on the stomach too. We also noticed that the cutlery and the setting was done beautifully, yet the knives were extremely blunt. So even though the setting was gorgeous and the waitress took the entree cutlery after taking our order, the use of it isn't very great. The table we sat at has a cross wooden base which actually took away from having normal leg space under the tables. We really had to gently scooch in there and you will experience a lack of space, especially if you are of Northern European hight. The place gives off a beautiful fine dining vibe, without the restaurant actually being proper fine dining. They have a gorgeous open kitchen design and well trained staff that knows the basics of good etiquettes. Between guests the waiting staff quickly changed the settings and made sure everything looked presentable for their second seating. They also made sure to check up on the tables and upon getting their attention they made sure their customers had everything they needed. The bathroom is downstairs and quite a walk, but definitely welcomed after the heavy meal we had. Bathroom is kept is good condition and was actually being cleaned when I came in. For the price- and quality ratio you pay, we were expecting a little more of this restaurant. Good staff can only make up so much of the experience. Sadly due to the food being quite average, the restaurant not having their cutlery and glasses on point and a hostess that was showing her brah quite profoundly, we will be looking for a different Italian restaurant in Amsterdam. We are happy we tried this restaurant, but will not come again.

Cecconi's has long been a favourite dining haunt of international jet setters. The brainchild of Enzo Cecconi, the youngest ever General Manager of world renowned Cipriani in Venice, he opened Cecconi's Mayfair, London in 1978. His blend of innotive and exciting north Italian cuisine, based on traditional recipes passed down from generation to generation, was an instant success, attracting royalty, heads of state, actors, performers, captains of industry and gourmets. Now part of the Soho House Group, the restaurant rapidly expanded with branches throughout the world including Barcelona, Berlin, Istanbul, Melbourne, Miami Beach, Mumbai, New York, West Holywood and beyond. Cecconi's reputation is based on mouth to mouth recommendation and one could easily be forgiven for being unaware as to Cecconi Amsterdam's existence. It is hidden in plain sight within the 1930's Bungee Building on Spuistraat, opposite the trendy Cafe Schuim. There is nothing in the form of advertising boards or neon signs. Discretion is part of the appeal. Entering through the building's period revolving doors, is like stepping into another world. The restaurant is immaculately decorated in art deco style, with an amazing ambience. Plants grow on beams under the glass ceiling, creating an alfresco effect. A grand piano is regularly used to provide live entertainment. There is an elegant bar serving great cocktails. Best seats are at the rear of the establishment which have wonderful views over the Singel canal. As to be expected, service is impeccable with super friendly waiting staff. The all day dining menu features a number of home made pasta dishes, including mouth-watering Spaghetti with lobster and chilli, wood oven pizzas, carpaccio, tartare and a modest choice of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes prepared on wood and charcoal. There is a great selection of wines to accompany. If the purse strings will allow, the Barbera d'Alba from Piedmont is highly recommended. It's a great spot for a group brunch or dinner; Not cheap, but that's to be expected.

It was a complete disappointment, I regret having booked at Cecconi’s Amsterdam. From the moment we entered till we left, we didn’t enjoy, it was the shortest dinner we have ever had. From our arrival to our departure. Although we had reserved a table for five, the table they have us sit was too tiny to fit in -you couldn’t fit your side dish plate.- It was obvious that staff were not happy to work there especially the guest welcoming two ladies at the entrance- they were not welcoming at all- not even looking at your face to make eye contact. After having seated and after checking the menu (at that point kids already decided to eat pizza) a waiter came to list the foods that were not available in the menu-which he made it sound like it was a regular/normal thing that this could happen and that we shouldn’t have been surprised as if it happened all the time and he did this without giving any legit reason or without any apology. Guess what -pizza was in the list of foods that were not available -at an Italian restaurant- later we had to change our orders and we were obliged to choose from the limited options. We should have left, I guess, at this point, but we were still optimistic and didn’t want to ruin our night by leaving the restaurant and having to look for another place at that time of the evening. Unfortunately, things continued to get worse when my husband’s starter arrived after the main dish although we asked for it twice before the main dish was served. So when my husband almost finished his main dish, he received his starter. Meanwhile he ordered another drink which he got it when we asked for the bill. We were so pissed off that we didn’t even want to have a coffee or dessert. (and no one asked us if we would like to check the dessert menu or to drink coffee). When we were leaving, we were waiting at the entrance for our jackets and during that time although two guest welcoming ladies were there, they didn’t even ask us how our night was or whether we enjoyed the dinner. One of them delivered our jackets without eye contact and didn’t even say good evening. From our arrival to the time we left it was a disaster. I think these are very basic things to keep the guests happy, at this point you don’t care if the atmosphere is nice or not. I apologized for my husband and my kids that I took them there. It was my choice at the end of the day. I cannot recommend this place to anyone, just don’t go there -that’s a disappointed...

I went to Cecconi’s for an special occasion and we were so disappointed. I worked for Soho House a few years ago and I could see that is not what it used to be.

I booked a table for 2 a few days prior the visit and to begin with the hostess was not very nice and gave us attitude. After 10min waiting they sat us in the smallest table that barely fit the plates. (We asked her why she gave us attitude so she apologised. All good, we move on.)

We ordered, and ASKED the main course to come AFTER the appetisers, however, it came all together (so main dish was cold after a few minutes). We also ordered the parmigiana that was too salty AND HAD A HAIR ON IT (which i didnt mention not to make a drama) and politely i said “your food is very nice, however, the parmigiana we are not liking it its too salty, any chance you can change it? :)”

The Italian manager came, and very rude without introducing herself, straight away said: “the parmigiana is not salty, i tried yours and is good, if you don’t like it it doesn’t mean is not nice, i can bring you something else but i will not remove it from your bill” SHE TRIED OUR FOOD!!! WHAT IF WE HAD COVID? Crazy stuff… plus in what restaurant on earth you give a dish back and they charge for it? Whatever.. We ordered a burrata instead which was good, however, the worst part comes here… The italian rude manager put the plate on our table almost dropping it and left (SHE DID NOT SAID ANYTHING) only dropped it with attitude. Usually in a good customer service you approach your customers being polite and apologising. Well, she gave us attitude. Me and my boyfriend looked at eachother and said “wow so rude”, so the manager heard it, she turned around and started arguing with us. Shocking behavior. I personally also work in customer service and I had to tell her how to treat a customer as a feedback. At all times we were nice to them and we still don’t know why we got all this attitude. At the end we still paid 107€ so clearly the food is not free and we are paying for a service that was shocking and the worse ive seen until today.

So disappointed with soho house, cecconis and the service provided. Specially because i used to love...
