Poor service for a Mexican Taqueria. I went there for dinner with my boyfriend and we didn't like it much. The place smells like open gut, I guess it's because it's located in the basement of a building. Maybe better ventilation is required as it is not so nice to eat while you are smelling the gutter. The service is slow and with very little care for hygiene. During the time we were eating there, the tables next to us (left and right) were not cleaned, neither the floor —there were some napkins and food on the floor of the tables next. It also took a long time for the waiters to come and take our order. Not even the drinks' order came quick. By the time our food was brought to the table, the drinks had not came yet. Of course, when we pointed this out, they brought the drinks to us quickly. Still, they forgot and it's not nice to remind the waiters for orders. And no, it wasn't that busy, so I cannot find a reason why they forgot other than they had little care for staying on top of things. The taste of the dishes was just ok... nothing interesting nor close to the original flavours of Mexico. We had Tostadas de Ceviche (8/10), Tacos de Cochinita (7/10), Trio de quesadillas (5/10), Guacamole (7/10), Tacos al Pastor (4/10) and Pastel de 3 leches (10/10). The cake was freaking good! Honest opinion, I wouldn't go back. If I have to pay those prices, I rather go to Bacalar in Amsterdam Noord where the prices are almost the same and the food and service are exceptional. I hope they can improve though, I think they have a great location and can create a true experience of a Mexican Taqueria. It is needed in Amsterdam...
Read moreThe food was good. I'll just say that. But, as a Hispanic woman, why you would serve tacos without warming up the tortillas first is beyond comprehension. They were cold, and breaking apart cause they were hard. But the flavour of the Biria was amazing. I do have to say that I was incredibly disappointed and upset when my husband told me that he planned ahead with someone on staff to organize a birthday surprise for me. He knew it would mean a lot to me to hear happy birthday in Spanish as I no longer live in a Spanish speaking country. The staff said they would get us a cake and organize the staff to sing happy birthday in Spanish. My husband was willing to pay for everything in hopes they can make my day special. Well, they forgot. Not only did they forget but they made us move tables to accommodate someone else which was odd. The whole time my husband was waiting for something to happen and nothing. My husband emailed them personally to share his feelings on the matter and they apologized but said they were busy... when we came in (we were the first ones) the lady said we can sit anywhere we wanted as "we're not busy tonight". They also said that if we return we can get a 20% discount....really? We would have appreciated a more heartfelt apology rather than something that requires us to go back and spend more money. They would probably forget the discount anyways. We won't be returning as it has left a sore...
Read moreWant some tasty Mexican tacos 🌮? Go to La Condensa in Amsterdam for their restaurant soft opening. They currently are not serving alcohol as they’re waiting for their alcohol license. Servers were welcoming and very attentive. They were also very knowledgable about the food and questions I asked. Great service in Amsterdam. There were 3 tacos in each order that roughly costs €16.50 - €20 for a plate.
We ordered:
Apps: Chicharron de queso, chips with guacamole
Mains: Al pastor tacos, Cochinita Pibil tacos, and Birria tacos.
Drinks: virgin passion fruit mojito and a fruit punch Jarritos soda.
Dessert: tres leches cake
Everything was amazing, the birria tacos does need a little more work, was some what on the bland side (maybe adding a little more salt would’ve helped or bringing it out with some consommé?) but still good with the nice red and green salsas they gave us.
Wish they didn’t add the cinnamon powder on top of the tres leches cake. All I could taste was a mouthful of cinnamon and none of the delicious tres leches cake they made. Had to scoop off the cream and cinnamon to actually taste the tres leches. It was really nice once we scooped off...
