Good but… the fat employee missed the point of customer service and retention:

My recent visit to Taberna do Lis left me with a sour aftertaste. Even though I hadn't made a reservation through The Fork app initially, I noticed they had a 30% discount available on the app and thought it would be nice to avail it. So, I asked the staff if we could still use the discount.

Here's where it got frustrating. One staff member agreed to apply the discount as promised, which was great. However, another staff member, who brought our bill at the end of the evening adamantly refused to apply the discount, causing confusion and frustration. It was evident that this individual lacked basic customer service skills and failed to uphold the restaurant's commitment - no effort whatsoever to check this with his colleague.

Despite this hiccup, I must admit that the food was quite good, and the ambiance was pleasant. However, the inconsistent policy and lack of customer service skills from one staff member marred the overall experience.

Considering my experience, I wouldn't confidently recommend Taberna do Lis as a reliable dining option. It's crucial for any restaurant to have clear and consistent policies and ensure competent and friendly staff to provide a positive dining experience. Hopefully, they can work on these issues to provide a better dining experience...

Taberna do Lis, nestled in the heart of Lisbon, is a culinary gem that captures the essence of Portuguese hospitality and cuisine. This charming eatery boasts an inviting atmosphere, perfect for both intimate dinners and lively gatherings. The interior, a blend of rustic and contemporary design, immediately sets a cozy yet vibrant tone.

While the menu offers a variety of traditional Portuguese dishes, it's their pasta that truly steals the show. Each pasta dish is a masterpiece, crafted with fresh ingredients and an evident passion for flavor. The Tagliatelle al Funghi, with its rich, earthy mushroom sauce, is a standout, bursting with robust and savory notes. Equally impressive is the Linguine Frutti di Mare, which brings the ocean to your plate with a medley of perfectly cooked seafood.

The service at Taberna do Lis is impeccable, with attentive staff who are both knowledgeable and friendly, enhancing the overall dining experience. Whether you’re a local or a tourist, this restaurant offers an unforgettable taste of Lisbon's culinary prowess. For those seeking a delightful and satisfying meal, particularly pasta lovers, Taberna do Lis is a must-visit destination...

We booked through fork and the restaurant applied the wrong discount (10% instead of 30%). They only corrected the bill when they heard us discussing the problem with the bill

In addition, they brought potato chips (crisps!) instead of French fries with one of the meals, even though the menu said it came with fries. On querying this the waiter said that this was "the traditional Portuguese accompaniment with this dish" (pork in red wine). If that is the case why does the printed (laminated) menu say fries?

When we asked what wine he would recommend with our meal choices, the waiter offered a wine NOT on the wine list for 30 euro. We went for one of the wine list wines for 20 euro which was very good.

The pork in red wine dish was good, the veal chops were mediocre. Although at least we had fries rather than crisps with the veal.

This just felt like a restaurant ripping off some tourists I'm afraid. Food was ok, drinks were good, but it felt like we were being taken advantage of. I would not recommend...

To start off with let's talk about location first. It's downtown, in the middle of all the fuss and huss if the busy city, hidden away on the corner of a back street. The decoration and ambiance are wonderful, for wine enthusiasts you can looms over the walls and pillars to try and find your favourite brand as they're decorated with plaques from wine boxes. The service is wonderful, speak in Portuguese English, or French and they'll have someone to help you out, hospitable staff and friendly, making jokes and leaving you at ease inside. Now... The food. The food was delicious starting from the appetisers if pate, bread, olives and olive oil, as per norm, followed by a wonder cheese platter with a stunning variety of cheese and grapes that go together like heaven. The main course was this stunning octopus dish on a bed or roasted potatoes and grits, topped off with olive oil for an extra kick. The desserts, if you can order a platter with a variety I recommend it, a small taste of everything to top off your evening.

TITLE: Very Fine Tavern/Cafe WHEN: We ate there October 2019 WHAT: The place is on a little hilly street, quietish, with no vehicle traffic and not buzzing with tourists MEAL: There is a fixed menu available if you want it, but we ate tapa style. The lightly battered bacalao on spinach was brilliant! The server grilled the chorizo for us at the table - that was a nice experience. The potatoes in the patatas bravas were done well, but the salsa fresca was unexpected. It tasted just fine, but was not the brava/aioli experience you would generally expect. All the food was deftly handled though - ingredients were of very high quality. SERVICE: Relaxed but attentive. Servers know their offerings well. ANYTHING ELSE? Fine wine list here. Take the advice of the servers for pairings at this place (can't say that about all places)
