Two Bucks — Restaurant in Austin

Two of us popped in on a dead weekday looking for a drink while spending a few days in Austin. Started looking at the menu on the wall, most drinks were really cheap.

Bartender encourages me not to worry about the menu and just let him know what I fancy. Fair enough. Something basic, just a spirit and mixer will do. A whiskey? Sure. Want to make it a double he asks? Why not.

Start a tab. Bartender tries to be friendly but unfortunately just comes across quite rude.

Want another round? Well that depends how much we’re in so far…

$44. For two doubles and mixer. Yeah, we’ll pass on the next round thanks…

I point out the difference in price compared to the menu I was encouraged not to order from. Bartender just blames me for falling for his double measure upsell, which was indeed double the price plus the mixer.

iPad swivels around to reveal a 20% minimum tip so our 15-minute stay with one drink each set us back over $58 including tax and tip.

Lesson learned! Order from the menu and don’t be lulled into a false sense of security, especially...

This place has drink specials that are hard to beat: a $2 special on three wheels they spin at the beginning of the night (one for a mixed drink, one for a beer, & one for shots). The bartenders are nice & make decently strong drinks. The atmosphere is pretty fun & there's a giant prize-type wheel people will come in to spin for birthdays/bachelorette nights that you can get a free drink/glass/t shirt from. They have a few arcade games as well, but other than the specials there's not a lot of stuff to do there. The music's typically pretty loud too, so not a fantastic place for conversation.

Overall it's a great place to get your night out on 6th started, but I typically don't stay here super long. Definitely a fun place though, especially if you haven't...

I can’t speak for any times other than 3pm on a random Friday. However, given those parameters, if you happen to encounter a Boston bartender here (which I kept saying was from Austin, Massachusetts) named Blake - you will undoubtedly have a good time. I give them so much credit for good drink specials, bartenders that make you feel like you’re in your best friend’s living room & a wide array of shots (if that’s your thing) unlike anything you’ll find on 6th street. You owe it to yourself to drop by for a drink…and just maybe you’ll spin the wheel of destiny and wind up making unexpected core memories at this jovial...
