Perbacco Cucina Italiana saved me and my family after an afternoon/evening run on the D&SNG Highline Route. The train ride started out very hot and miserable and my two year wanted nothing but to be off that train. Once we got some speed up, he settled and slept. Mom and older brother were not much happier. After arriving back in Durango at 8:10 pm, we had a 2 hour druve ahead of us to Telluride/Mountain Village. I told my wife that we only had a few options for dinner since everything at Mountsin Village would be closed by the time we arrived. We could pick up McDonald’s or other fast food and head out or sit down to dinner in Durango before it got too late. After stepping out of the train station, there was Perbacco like an oasis in the desert. It was unassuming from the outside and we stepped cautiously in. Stepping to the hostess stand we were told it would likely be a 25-minute wait. Then in from heaven drops, Kim, the owner and she miraculously finds the perfect table for my worn out family. Teegan, another angel from heaven got us quickly filled with water and a tray of focaccia bread for the two year old to start with. We were advised that our waiter was Mauro, authentically Italian from head to toe. He took our drink orders and we went ahead with the starters and main courses not to waste time and fill our hungry bellies. The salads were so fresh and delicious and the mains did not disappoint. My fillet al fungi was expertly cooked and very tender. Everyone enjoyed the food and the experience very much. Our tough afternoon turned into an evening delight. We got a beautiful dessert to go and left with big smiles all around. NB We were also introduced to Massimo, the chef, the other owner, husband of Kim and brother of Mauro. This fine restaurant is authentically Italian. If you are in Durango, don’t miss it. If you are departing from the Durango and Silverton train, make a reservation for 15 minutes after your return time. You will NOT be disappointed. Grazie mille Kim, Massimo,...
Read moreWe had heard about the new Italian restaurant that had moved into the old Palace location. We booked a reservation for our anniversary. The menu implies this is an upscale Italian restaurant. Unfortunately our experience here was lacking upscale ambiance and flavor.
The atmosphere anywhere other than the bar area feels like an old western steakhouse restaurant still….. We were sat in the large dining room with western style saloon tables and chairs. I made a reservation where I specifically noted the anniversary occasion, so I was hoping for a better table at 5:30 on a Saturday.
We both ordered the Burrata Pugliese e Prosciutto di Parma, which was okay but nothing to write home about.
My gnocchi (suggested by our server) with Cacio e Pepe sauce was served on an old plain white plate and looked absolutely sad and unappetizing. Unfortunately it didn’t taste any better. My partners dish of Pappardelle ai funghi Porcini tasted better, but still lacked garnish and visual appeal. Bread served was also mediocre in taste.
Service was great! Thank you to the hard working servers and other staff.
I wouldn’t recommend this for a fancy occasion unless they do some remodeling to the interior. With the prices, I wouldn’t even recommend this for a casual meal due to the decor and $$ menu.
I’ll stick to El Moro and Eolus for when I want good meals, at $$-$$$ prices and a...
Read moreOne of the best restaurants in Durango. The food is excellent. Outstanding. Delicious. I cannot stress how wonderful the food is.
But…I have some issues.
Service is inconsistent. It depends on the server/bartender. I have had some truly wonderful servers at this restaurant. But I have also had bad. Rude/inattentive/incompetent. I try to give every server the benefit of the doubt but this place sometimes has poor service.
Price hikes. The first couple of years this place was open the prices were very reasonable. Not cheap but also not expensive. But this season, 2025, they hiked their prices sky high. It really breaks my heart because I love coming here and now I can’t afford it.
Operating hours. Google lists that this restaurant is open until 9:00 PM. I walked in solo at 8:30 and they told me it was too late. I get that there has to be a line for when the kitchen closes but I don’t think half an hour is unreasonable for one person.
Unfortunately, after numerous trips with subpar experiences, I will not be back and I will no longer...
