Vaudeville — Restaurant in Fredericksburg

Visited this restaurant for first time with a group of 11 professional women on a weekend getaway. The atmosphere is charming with a shop at street level that will keep you entertained while waiting for your table. The food is AMAZING! Our group had a “FIXE” menu to pick from (4 choices of appetizers and 4 entree options). Little disappointing for the price that dessert wasn’t a course, but everything about the meal was so awesome I really didn’t have room. So no real complaint unless you’re big into desserts. Everyone raved about the food.. seriously melt in your mouth and pure heaven.

So why only 2 stars, you ask? Well it is due to the horrible service provided by our waiter. Now, I put myself through school waiting tables and bartending so this makes me 1) have high expectations when going to a high-end restaurant and dropping 1K on a tab, and 2) understand that wait staff get in the weeds and need grace to have an off night. And if slow service was the only issue, I wouldn’t be even writing this part of the review. The waiter was so snippy and rude the entire evening. At one point I tried to ask about wine recommendations and he literally snubbed me, said he’d have to come back and just walked away as I was mid-sentence. What? By the end of the evening, the entire table’s conversation went from talking about how great the food was to how this one rude waiter was ruining the entire experience. I guess it is because he wasn’t worried too much about the tip which was an automatic 20% - so he made $150 off our group no matter what level of service he provided.

We decided to call the manager as we were signing out tabs - not to get anything taken off as some might expect - but to provide honest feedback. One of the staff said he’d get the manager for us. We couldn’t believe when OUR WAITER walked up and asked what we needed. My friend said the manager and, you guessed it, he said HE was the floor manager. Funny not funny. So we gave him the feedback directly in a tactful way and to his credit he did apologize. He didn’t seem all too concerned though,and unfortunately damage was done by that point.

To top off the entire experience, we had to call because he double charged a few of our group. Honest mistake but he was apparently as snippy on the phone to my friend as he was last Saturday evening so I’m sticking to my review. If the management acts this way they need to look at their culture. People want to enjoy their evening along with the food and, like it or not, a waiter can literally make or break...

I’ve been planning our trip to Fredericksburg for a couple of months now and had Vaudeville on the list. It looked chic and I read so many good reviews. I was very excited to go!

Our friends got to the restaurant around 7pm and asked if they could reserve a table for 4 at 8pm. The hostess said no problem & put their names down for then. 8pm comes along and we all arrive. We had to wait 30 minutes to get table even though they had made a reservation at 8pm. I thought this was super odd but tried to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt since sometimes things happen.

While we’re waiting, our friends are telling us the story of when they got there at 7pm to make a reservation. Apparently when they got there, they also asked the hostess if they could sit at the bar and get a drink. The hostess said yes and walked them to the bar where there was only 1 seat meanwhile our friends are 2 people. Our friends declined because one of them is not going to stand for the next hour while waiting for the reservation. They left and went to another bar elsewhere. They came back a little before 8 (before my significant other and I arrive) to try to get a drink again. This time the other hostess said to them that the bar area isn’t for drinks, only drinking AND eating. They were so confused because the first hostess happily brought them to get drinks and now this other hostess is saying otherwise. It seemed like no one at the restaurant even knows their own policies.

The meal was lovely and we enjoyed the atmosphere. Except that…all night & morning I have been violently sick. I haven’t been sick like this in a long time and I know it’s not from anything else I ate yesterday. I only had a bagel yesterday prior to eating at the restaurant so it definitely was from the food from this restaurant. I’m really sad because the food tasted delicious in the moment but I’m think that something in the food was either expired, left out too long or some other reasons. I am definitely not going back after this...
