El Metate is a culinary gem in the heart of Jackson! This charming restaurant serves up authentic Mexican flavors that will transport your taste buds south of the border. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with vibrant colors and traditional decor that adds to the festive ambiance.
The service is top-notch, with friendly and attentive staff who are happy to guide you through the menu. And what a menu it is! From classic tacos and quesadillas to more adventurous options like taquitos and carne asada, there's something for everyone at El Metate.
But what really sets this restaurant apart is the quality of the food. Every dish is made with love and care, using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients that shine through in every bite. The portions are generous, the prices are reasonable, and the flavors are simply outstanding.
Whether you're a local or just visiting Jackson, El Metate is a must-visit for anyone who loves Mexican food. It's a true gem in the heart of the Rockies, and I can't wait to go back and try more of the menu. Five stars and a big thumbs up from this...

Things to note:
the salsa (verde) is noticeably hot and I usually get 4 out of 5 at Thai restaurants. Don't come if you're a wimp.
portions are huge! Prices seemed steep but you don't normally get 5 enchiladas plus rice and beans and a random side of sour cream just 'cause. Plus, you know, they have to pay rent in Jackson Hole/Teton Village
They don't have stuff like ground beef red enchiladas (what I was in the mood for) but I was surprisingly thrilled with my green chicken ones. Plus they have many options for guaraches

they have beer: just Corona and Modelo. But a Corona 40 and a glass to pour it in seems quite popular.
the clientele is local and Spanish-speaking, but the waiters know enough English to get your monolingual...

Our server wasn’t necessarily rude, she just blatantly ignored us and avoided us since we were the wrong color in her eyes. She was very kind to some of her other tables. I will never go back. I do not treat anyone differently based on the appearance, but apparently this establishment thinks its acceptable to do that. I have never felt more unwelcome and uncomfortable in a...
