The Oatmeal Griddle cakes are a masterpiece 📍Salt's Cure 1155 Highland Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90038 #brunch #laeats #griddle #hollywood #losangeles

Salt's Cure is in a category all it's own when it comes to the brunch game. At a time where there is no shortage of places to get brunch, to find a restaurant that truly applies the craft to elevate common staples to truly memorable dishes is truly rare. Salt's Cure is one of those places. While you will see all the familiar fare on the brunch menu, each and every item is prepared so well it's like the kitchen staff collectively tried mediocre breakfast once and made it their personal mission to never let another soul try mid food again. While the oatmeal griddle cakes are the headline grabber of the menu (deservedly so), I can't stress enough it is the little handmade items that truly bring everything to another level. Have you ever had a piece of bacon taste like a porkchop? Ketchup that taste like it was aged in a smoker? How about cinnamon butter that doubles as the syrup? All of these are par for the course at Salt's Cure. I know that "best of" restaurant lists can sometimes feel a bit detached from reality but Salt's Cure deserves its spot on each and every list it finds it's way onto.

Salt's Cure is an American gastropub in the Hollywood/West Hollywood vicinity. It oddly seems to merge modern and rustic in its atmosphere at the same time. I attribute that to the clean lines and open space with the exposed metal and plenty of wood installed into the decor. The food is fantastic, that, there is no doubt. The pork chop is heavenly. The duck leg is made just right and complimented with the berry compote adds a distinctive burst of flavor. Those griddle cakes are addictive. It's a good thing they are small in size, I could literally eat my weights worth in those if I had the chance. Also, the grapefruit pie is a sublime surprise, and I am no fan of grapefruit. The taste is there, but it's fascinating in its sweet but tart decadence. Salt's Cure is definitely a place worth trying. Especially since there are many restaurants that cater to cuisine in other parts of the world, it's hard to find one that does justice to the style of American cuisine, and they knock it right out of the park. Kudos.

Visited today with my 4yr old niece who LOVES pancakes and while the food was great the service was disappointing.

We were sat and ordered with the manager, but once the food came no one, literally no one, came to check on us. Even while refilling coffee of the neighboring tables no one even offered to refill my coffee or our waters. Even while refilling the neighboring tables beverages.

I flagged down the manager and asked for more coffee and then my niece needed to use the restroom. Since she’s 4yrs old and it was just us two, I took her to the restrooms (located in the back of the restaurant and opposite direction of the exit/ entrance) and left our plates of half eaten food and my car key on the table to indicate we’re still there.

When we returned, 4min later, our table was cleared, even the food we were still eating. The neighboring table was a couple with a baby said “omg they thought you left abruptly, but forgot your car key” after saying I would never let my 4yr old niece use the restroom alone, which is why I left my key, and I couldn’t believe they cleared the table so quick having never checked on us. They were shocked and totally understood.

The led me to believe that (1) there was an assumption we walked out without paying and (2) an discussion was had about us possibly walking out with other guest.

I then simply asked for the check as we just wanted to leave. The manager offered us a free pancake, which I declined. At that point I didn’t feel comfortable receiving anything for free as I felt the assumption was clear and people thought we walked out on the bill. We simply paid and left. We ended up at another restaurant down the street to finish our Sunday pancake and went on...

Set smack dab in one of the busiest areas in Hollywood, parking might be a pain to find during the week, but a lot more doable on the weekends; particularly for Sunday brunch. It's great for food at any time of the day, though, and they're open during the afternoons, as well, not just during the early hours of the day and the evenings like some local spots.

Brunch is my jam, though, so here goes For the must try's:

PRETZEL BREAD ($6): Soft, chewy pretzel served with a side of Ale Mustard & Lardo. Careful with the Lardo, because as the unattractive name suggests, it's delicious, but heavy on the thighs. It was all yummy, but for $6, I do wish the pretzel itself has been bigger.

OATMEAL GRIDDLE CAKES ($9): Otherwise known as the 'Perfect Pancakes' (by me), they are the fluffiest, most fall-apart-delicious pancakes- or pancake knockoff- I've ever had. They're served in 3's with a nice dollop or two of Cinnamon Molasses Butter and a sprinkling of powdered sugar. This is what breakfast Heaven must be made of.

They're other menu items are well-loved by the locals, as well. From biscuits and gravy, to pork rillette, to salads, and even pecan donut holes with a coffee glaze for all those sweet teeth out there. You can't leave without one of these bad boys, though:

OL' SALTY'S BACON CHEESEBURGER ($12): Is a ridiculously hearty, heavy, scrumptious burger that satisfies the meat-lover in just about anyone. It's definitely worth coming for.

They also have plenty of booze, including cocktails like their Irish Coffee with Jameson Irish Whiskey, Cold Brew, Cream, & Coffee Liqueur. You'd be crazy not to splurge $12 on that one. Or wine....

I have been a regular customer at the smaller location “Breakfast By Salts Cure” for a couple years now. It’s within walking distance to my house so I go there often. Have always had a friendly rapport with all of the staff as they’ve come and gone over time. I order the breakfast tacos every time they have them and have always been a generous tipper even though it’s technically a serve yourself kind of place. I don’t eat meat so I always order them without. Today I was told that was no longer an option by the cook. He claimed he was the manager when I asked to speak to one. And none of this was said to me politely. It was with attitude and confrontational when I tried to inquire why suddenly the thing I was ordering multiple times a week was no longer an option even thought the menu clearly said in front of me they were serving them that day. He said he didn’t want to waste the meat by making it without. He was rude, as well as the female cashier taking the order. I will never be coming here again. If this guy really is the manager he should be fired. I’ve run a business before and this isn’t not how you interact...
