Tonight’s experience was one of the worst I’ve had. We arrived at 6:55, party of 6. We were told that it would be about 30 minutes for our wait. It took about 15 minutes so I was very pleased with that. We were greeted for the first time by our waitress Karen (yes that was her name) about 10 minutes after sitting at the table. We ordered drinks. Friend at the table ordered a beer from the bar that he didn’t get until after his food arrived. Karen says… oops it must be sitting up at the bar. We order food and food arrives. At this point no one has received a refill on drinks or been asked if we wanted one. But the two tables around us have been serviced with refills, asked about desert and given checks. Food arrives, I get the piggy Mac with brisket. It was soup! Literally, could have poured the juice and fat in a cup. When I told Karen that I did not want the meal and why she said “I can’t take the meal off, it looks fine to me”. I asked to speak to the manager. When the manager arrived, I explained the issue with the food and he too agreed that there was way too much liquid in my food. He agreed to get me another meal on the fly. The burger was actually delicious. Another member of the party asked for ice that she never received. My husband asked for a refill on his water and she filled his cup up half way. 🙄 Friend asked for refill and as he removed his straw she said”I didn’t ask you to do that”. I can’t make this stuff up… yes she said that. I get the peach cobbler for desert and there were no peaches in the cobbler!!! NONE!!! After asking for the check we mention military discount . We know that they offer this bc we asked the hostess. She says, let me ask if we offer that. She comes back with the check and tells us that she can’t divide our check bc they are too busy! At this point I was fed up with the entire experience, so I ask to speak to the manager. While manager was sorting out our issues, getting me a new peach cobbler, Karen is talking to other waiters/waitresses & hostess and they are looking at us. This was a horrible & uncomfortable experience from a restaurant that I would have highly recommended prior to today! It’s unfortunate that the service received today could result in a...
Read moreI've been to Nashville several times over the last 10 years. My first time was for a conference that we hosted back in 2014. Prior to the start of the conference, our staff had lunch at Puckett's Restaurant and Grocery. It was the most amazing Southern Fried Chicken I had ever had. The chicken was perfectly fried and crispy and the chicken itself was juicy and flavorful. I got the mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans as sides (I mean, who doesn't get gravy on mashed in the South?) and to top off the meal? I got their homemade banana pudding. Holy cow! That was the best I ever had.
And I've been to the tourist stops that everyone tells me to visit, but I always make it a point to have one meal at Puckett's.
And I made it back a couple weeks ago. It was a Monday night, rainy and cold. No matter because I wanted my Puckett's Southern Fried Chicken meal. And I got it...but the grocery had been replaced with a shelf of products and a stage to host performers. When I was there, the performer, Justen Harden, performed and he was very good. Hi music paired well with Puckett's Southern Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, and green beans. I ordered a cinnamon whiskey mule (which was okay, but wasn't the right whiskey - I discovered that later). They, unfortunately (for me) were out of their homemade banana pudding. Instead, I got their Chocolate Cobbler, which, while not as good as the banana pudding, but definitely worth a try: crisp and smooth, velvety chocolate. The staff was and is extremely friendly, and for someone dining alone (like me, who was in for a conference on my own), they spent extra time with me to chat. It made for a nicer evening than me just reading a book on my Kindle while dining.
Like I stated, this is my favorite place in Nashville and recommend it to everyone whether you like fried...
Read moreThis is a case where the experience did not live up to the hype (for me). The drinks were reasonably priced- however the blueberry special was okay. The Bloody Mary was bland, luckily they had spices on the table.
The fried green tomatoes were good. I would have preferred to use the aioli at my desecration versus having some already on the beautiful fried green slices. Alone they are perfection.
I sent the red beans and rice back because my serving was lukewarm and more water than I like, meaning it had not reached the done phase where the gravy like liquid is perfect. They did take them off of the bill.
I'm not sure why they serve things in a skillet when the skillet isn't hot. Maybe they think that makes it more southern?
The space was nice but no music. That wasn't happening until after 8. This was a huge disappointment as you can get the same if not better fare on Broadway with a live show in numerous spots...seems like a miss, but they were packed.
We stayed close and got breakfast takeout the next morning. The grits were too salty for my taste, the hash brown bites have onion in them which I enjoyed, but some were mushy inside- I would flatten them more to avoid that. They did a nice job with the crispy bacon and the pancakes were good, plenty of butter and syrup provided. No ketchup was included. They forgot The chocolate milk. With almost 20% in takes on these bills, I kinda need all the food I paid for.
The stage looks nice and like most spots they are selling expensive merch.
I would not recommend making an effort to go there, if not in the area. There are too many other spots that...
