We just ate here for the first time after having a nice day visiting historic Charleston. We are on our way to Asheville so we asked the hostess if it was faster to order takeout or eat in because we needed to get on the road and she said dine in was faster. We got to our table and our server came by and said she would be by shortly to take care of us. We waited a while and finally she came by again and asked for our drinks. My friend wanted an IPA and she really didn't know what they had there. Then we aasked to put in our order in and she couldn't take it because she didn't have her notebook. We had to wait a long time so l asked for the manager to see if we could get another server because she seemed overloaded. To make a long story short instead of calling for a manager she went and told the server and the server came by with my water but not my friend's IPA. Then she still couldn't take the order. After the IPA came delivered by the bartender there was still no manager or no order taken. Our server came back and kept telling us they were short staffed in front and back, but she wasn't rectifying the situation. Finally she took the order with some attitude and said she would get it in. It wasn't bad timing before the meal was done but after what happened they didn't have one of the two sides so she had to go back for it. My friend asked for the check early and it finally came but she didn't pick it up for a while so there was no point in having the check The server eased up after a while but the damage was done. She cashed us out but there was little concern for our experience so l figured l would tell everyone on here and they can make their own decision as to whether they want to go. The ribs l got were dry and not very flavorful as was the potatoe salad and mac & cheese. The biscuits were alright and probably the best thing. The food and atmosphere was all very corporate and chain-like....
Read moreI had a great experience here for Ribs and Brisket.
The meal had at least 6oz of brisket, 6 ribs, Baked Beans (flavored with meat and what looked like a little bits of jalapeños in them that were totally amazing), and Mac & Cheese that was equally delicious, and a glass of water for $30 plus tip.
We know BBQ isn’t cheap, nor has it ever been. But, if I’m going to pay, it better be worth my money! I’d go here again but probably wouldn’t choose the bar seating as the bar-tender wasn’t as attentive as I would’ve liked. Albeit was within a half an hour closing time and she was very busy cleaning up for the next day. My water glass dried up a couple of times during my meal.
Jim ‘N Nick’s emphasizes their meat quality by avoiding freezers and microwaves, ensuring freshly prepared dishes. Their commitment to traditional Southern barbecue techniques definitely shines through in the meal they served me at 9pm on a Thursday night.
Jim ‘N Nick’s offers a diverse menu that includes: • Barbecue Plates: Slow-smoked pulled pork, Carolina-style chopped pork with vinegar-based sauce, beef brisket, smoked turkey breast, and barbecued chicken. • Ribs: Classic spare ribs served with two trimmings. • Sandwiches & Burgers: Pulled pork, Carolina-style pork, bar-b-q chicken, beef brisket, and specialty burgers like the Southern Burger topped with barbecue sauce, bacon, cheddar cheese, pickles, and a crispy onion ring. • Starters: Hand-breaded onion rings, loaded queso with jalapeño cheddar sausage, pitmaster nachos, smoked wings, and deviled eggs. • Sides (Trimmings): Baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw, mac & cheese, bar-b-q corn on the cob, collard greens, and fresh fruit. • Desserts: Banana pudding and Mable’s homemade pies, including lemon icebox and...
Read moreTHE HOSTESS THAT WORKED ON MARCH 26 AT 1 PM WAS EXTREMELY RUDE AND THERE IS NO ACCEPTABLE REASON FOR HER RACIST BEHAVIOR.
I here for lunch at 13:00 on March 26. There was a couple in front of my waiting to be seated. When my group walked in, we were not greeted at all by the hostess. After a minute of waiting, I walked up to her and waited for her to look up and assist me. She did not. She did not even acknowledge my existence. I then proceeded to ask her if it was necessary to reserve a table or who to speak to in order to put our name on the list to have a table. She said they do not take reservations and we have to speak to her about a table. She also said there is a wait and tables needed to be cleaned and then continued to finish whatever she was doing on her electronic device. A minute later a white couple walked in, and she immediately greeted them, asked them how many were in their party and said it will be a few minutes for a table. Either the hostess working that day is extremely rude and racist, or extremely hates her job enough not to do it. Either way, management needs to address her disrespectful racist behavior toward non-white customers. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.
My server, Jeffrey, however was the complete opposite of the server. He was sincerely polite and nice, helpful, and happy. He completely changed the mood after coming inside of the restaurant already wanting to immediately leave. Thank you for people like you, Jeffrey. If it were not for you, my party of four would have immediately left this dining institution.
The food was good and the portions are large. I will definitely come here again once the hostess issue is addressed. Otherwise, I will gladly go to any other better barbecue restaurant...
