Overall the food and service were wonderful, but definitely had areas that were lacking. The food was mostly good, but we had the shishito peppers which had a wonderful dressing but they were undercooked, you had to chew off the end when it should release easily. However, the crust rice tuna was my absolute favorite. The bone marrow with rice was okay. The chicken and truffle was good but we couldn't taste any truffles in it. One of the menu items (pork belly bao) sounded good but was not available, the waitress said they were cooking it but it wouldn't be ready for a couple hours! The atmosphere is beautiful, but the tables and chairs are not appropriate for sharing. We had 4 people at a tiny table near the bar with huge comfortable chairs, which would be much better suited for a teahouse. The tabletop easily could have been bigger to actually sit under the table rather than around the table and allow more room for the sharing items. In addition, some of the table top is taken up by a huge container with silverware, which was useless. One of the people at our table got tea, which was presented very nicely, except it was in a very wide short tea pot taking up more of the limited table top. In addition, there were problems with the bathrooms. There are 3 separate bathrooms which seem to be full constantly. A friend and I went at the same time not realizing it was individual bathrooms (not stalls), I (a female) went into the men's bathroom since the other 2 were being used. When I came out, my friend was still waiting and she also used the men's restroom. At the end of the evening, I needed to go to the bathroom prior to leaving and all 3 were utilized for about 10 minutes, waiting in the middle of the restaurant for a bathroom to open, which is very awkward. They need to figure out a different option for where to wait for a bathroom. The service was good, not bad, not excellent. Overall I would give it 4 stars across the board. I took off an additional star since there is a 3.5% fee to use a credit card. We actually looked and other than the receipt, could not find anyplace that warns the customer that you need to pay in cash if you don't want to pay the extra fee. If you have an expensive restaurant, then part of running it should be knowing that people don't carry $100 bills and will use a credit card. Nice place, not one that I specifically want to go back to though. However with sharing, I was surprised that dinner (1 mocktail, no alcohol) was $80 for 2, and probably about the same for the other couple, which did seem like good prices...
Read moreStarting off--be weary of any 5 star review because this place practices the "leave a 5 star review and send it to us to be entered into a giveaway." I was not impressed with this place to begin with, but this made us have no desire to go back, especially since we had issues with most of our orders (poorly cooked, bad flavors -- see below for full details).
I ordered the high-end burger (A5 Wagyu with Goldleaf). I asked for medium-rare, and if you look at my pictures, it is well done in places with, at best, medium in small pieces. It was so unevenly cooked that it was almost shocking. The parts that were closer to medium were nothing special either. It did not have the texture and feel of A5 Wagyu at all. I travel to Japan (can see from some of my other reviews) and have had A5 Wagyu burgers - this did not match at all. If it truly is A5, my guess is that it was so poorly made it destroyed the texture of the meat.
Then, our rice was undercooked. Not by a little, but by a lot. This is a place that has high focus on asian foods, but they butchered the rice so badly that it was crunchy.
Next, the curry was closer to a light broth instead of a curry. It was so disappointing that my daughter didn't even finish it (she loves curry).
Finally, the pad thai noodles. The noodles were soggy/overcooked. The flavor was also very sour tasting. It uses tamarind, which can be sour, but this was overwhelming, and it was the only thing we tasted, so it was not enjoyable.
So, the positives: The appetizers were very good. We ordered 4 different ones to get a good variety test, and they all turned out very well. The hummus tasted great, and the pita was perfect. The dim dums were crispy and flavorful. That's all the positives.
If anyone is reading this, understand that I leave 5 star ratings for many places. This is getting such a low rating because so many of the signature dishes were either completely bad or subpar. The price and expectations did not align, and the fact that they bribe for 5 star ratings is a bad sign for me. If you go, I hope it is much better for you because I would not recommend this place to anyone.
For our visit, the best I can summarize is this: presentation is valued higher than...
Read moreOkay I have mixed feelings about this place. I kept seeing it on social media and was excited to try it because not only are the pictures of the restaurant beautiful but the food looked great as well. If you’re looking for a place to take pictures for your social media then this is definitely the spot! The decor is beautiful and just has an overall nice aesthetic. Our waitress, London, was awesome however, there were men posted up through out the restaurant almost like bouncers or security and they just didn’t look inviting at all. In my opinion they throw the whole vibe of the place off. Back to London, she made some really good recommendations drink wise and made me wish I could experience the drinks how they were designed to be made. I’m currently nursing so I couldn’t have any alcohol but she suggested the perfect mock tails! The first drink was sweet and delicious but the second not so much. Not sure if a different bar tender created the second drink but you could tell the difference. My friend really enjoyed her drinks and had several!
As far as the food, I would not suggest this place for dinner. We had a reservation for 5pm so we got there as soon as the restaurant opened. We took a few minutes to browse the menu and ordered the waygu short rib nachos. Not even 5 minutes after ordering them, they brought the nachos out. They were cold but one of the better items that we ordered. For dinner I had the chicken Pad Thai and while the presentation was beautiful, the flavor was lacking. I was excited because our waitress said the chef added his own twist to the dish and that it was more of a lo mein but to me it just had a zingy taste with no other flavor, not even the chicken and it’s definitely not like lo mein. I really wanted to love it but it just wasn’t my cup of tea. My friend had the Oxtail and Bonemarrow fried rice and she said it just tasted greasy. There was no other flavor for the rice or oxtail, just grease. I wanted to love it but this is just not a restaurant that I would recommend especially if you’re looking for a good meal. They have a burger on the menu but you can get that anywhere. I know that the social media pictures will continue to draw people in but its just not...
