🙌🏻Comfort Food Heaven with Corn Chowder as the Star🙌🏻 I recently dined at the Old Mill restaurant, which captured the essence of comfort food with a touch of country charm. The rustic ambiance and friendly service set the stage for a delightful dining experience. Let me break down my review using some metrics: Food: Country Style Chicken: The country-style chicken was cooked to perfection, with a crispy exterior and juicy, tender meat on the inside. The seasoning was just right, adding a burst of flavor with each bite. It was served with a side of creamy mashed potatoes and gravy, which complemented the chicken beautifully. Catfish: The catfish was a standout dish, showcasing the restaurant's commitment to using fresh ingredients. The catfish fillets were perfectly fried to a golden crisp, revealing moist and flaky flesh inside. The accompanying tartar sauce added a tangy kick, making it a delicious and satisfying choice. Corn Chowder: The highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the corn chowder. It was a heavenly blend of creamy and chunky textures, with the natural sweetness of fresh corn shining through. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and the addition of herbs and spices elevated the dish to a whole new level. It was served piping hot and accompanied by the side of warm, crusty bread that was perfect for dipping. The corn chowder was a true star of the meal and left a lasting impression. Desserts: The dessert menu was a delightful finale to the meal. The options were varied and indulgent, ranging from classic favorites like apple pie and chocolate cake to unique treats like bourbon pecan tart. The desserts were beautifully presented, and each bite was a symphony of flavors that satisfied the sweet tooth. Service: The service at the restaurant was warm and attentive, with the staff taking the time to explain the menu and make recommendations. The food was served promptly, and the waitstaff checked in regularly to ensure our satisfaction. The attention to detail and friendly demeanor of the staff added to the overall enjoyable experience. Ambiance: The restaurant had a cozy and inviting ambiance, with warm lighting, comfortable seating, and rustic decor. The subtle country-style elements, such as the vintage signs and wooden accents, added to the restaurant's charm. It was a perfect setting for a relaxing and enjoyable dining experience. Overall, my dining experience at the old mill restaurant was exceptional, with the highlight being the outstanding corn chowder. The food was delicious, the service was impeccable, and the ambiance was inviting. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a taste of comfort food with a touch of country flair.

First off.....we were lucky enough to get a great parking spot!..... Just like all the other reviews, plan to wait an hour plus... we waited about right at an hour. We checked in, went to the general store, walked around. Got a bag of duck food (corn) for $1 and went to the end of the building and fed the ducks and geese... best part of the visit if you ask me 😁...... place is very, very crowded but they have a big organized operation going on. When our name was called we were sat immediately, our server was very prompt, friendly and attentive... and busy! Kim, I think is what her name was. They give you a ton of food! It's kinda like family style. You get to choose your entree, then you get a big bowl of mashed potatoes and a big bowl of green beans. They also offer free refills on the side items and bread. You can also ask for bowls of white, brown or turkey gravy. They start you out with a side salad, corn fritters (hushpuppies) and some corn chowder. Us both being Tennessee natives, agree that this corn chowder was by far the worst item that was served. Southern foods don't have red peppers in them. Fried chicken, chicken & dumplins, green beans, mashed potatoes and white gravy were all good. The rolls were good, the corn fritters were ok, the maple butter was different but good. You also get a dessert with your meal price. It's a little over $60 for 2 people with 2 drinks but you will leave full and have 2 full to go boxes to take with you. We just wish there were more side items to choose from such as white beans, fried okra, turnip greens, pinto beans, you know.... southern food. The one thing that baffled me was the fried chicken selection, you could get breast, or legs, where are the thighs?? Best meat for fried chicken..... we may or may not visit again but it's worth a try if you have never eaten here before. Just be sure to get there an hour or so earlier than you want to eat cause you will wait that long. Food does come out pretty fast though

Great food, excellent value, worth the wait! This is a busy spot, tourists and locals love this restaurant, be prepared to wait. They do have one bench near the check in (right next to the elevator) and a ramp as well. About that ramp, don't be fooled, this is not a line, it is utilized as a waiting area. Names will be announced over a loud speaker and can be heard anywhere on direct property. Little tip, they have a shop at the bottom of the ramp to kill time(and you can hear the speaker as well). The food is really good, but the portions are huge, and so much is included with each meal, so plan accordingly (don't want bears in your car, I'm sure!). Porkchops: it came with 3 huge pieces of fried porkchops. They tasted great, plus I added white gravy for a little extra flavor. Potpie: your usual, flaky top crust, chicken vegetables, really enjoyed! To start, you are given complimentary tasty rolls and corn fritters. Then comes their signature corn chowder soup, it's a sweet cold soup, but tasted good. There are salads next (your basic house salad). The sides: mashed potatoes and green beans are on the side for the whole table to share and are all you care to eat. Dessert: We had to get this to go, there's just so much food included! We picked the chocolate cake and banana pudding...tasty sweet desserts! 😋 Service: I will say they have the service down really well, they get you in and out, the food arrives fast. For a place as busy as it is, I will give them that....but...our waitress was forgetful at times, we had to constantly ask her for a new drink(original soda was instead seltzer), missing side, missing gravy. Like I said, once you are inside, you will see how busy it is. Tip: Bring a sweater or hoodie...we were there in May 23'...it was warm outside, but inside the ac was blaring down on us. Got too chilly for my liking. Make sure to walk over to see the mill, it's a lovely picture spot, and a nice little way to walk off the feast!

We dined at the Old Mill Restaurant and had quite the culinary adventure. Our attentive and sweet waitress, Lee Ann, made us feel right at home despite the bustling atmosphere. Impressive enough, our meal was on our table within 15 minutes of ordering for our family of four – a remarkable feat considering the busy ambiance. To kick off our gastronomic journey, we were treated to a delightful surprise: complimentary Corn fritters with luscious maple butter. This appetizing start set the tone for what was to come – an array of tantalizing starters that left our taste buds dancing with delight. As the main course arrived, the spotlight fell on the chicken and dumplings. While the flavors were undeniably delicious, I couldn't help but feel underwhelmed by the portion size. What struck me as even more puzzling was that the kids' size was identical to the adult entree, all for a hefty $24.99. Thankfully, the Old Mill Restaurant redeems itself with the family-style sharing of sides, showcasing mouthwatering mashed potatoes and impeccably seasoned green beans that elevated the meal to a new level. The true crescendo of this culinary symphony came in the form of the Pecan pie – a slice of sheer perfection that would earn a solid 10 out of 10 from any dessert aficionado. Equally impressive was the Banana pudding, a harmonious blend of flavors and textures that left a lasting impression. And let's not forget the kids' ice cream, a delightful treat that added a playful touch to an already delightful dining experience. In conclusion, the Old Mill Restaurant proved to be a mixed bag of gastronomic delights. While some aspects, like the attentive service and delectable starters, stood out, the inconsistency in portion sizes and pricing left a slight bittersweet note. However, the spectacular desserts undoubtedly stole the show, making it a destination worth considering for those with a sweet tooth.

Be aware: this place is popular - and worth it. Parking can get problematic and you may need to use your patience soon, and manners. Wait time can vary depending on the day, ti.e, and size of your party. I know for me & a party of 4 total (plus once with 2 kids under 5) it never took more than 15 minutes. Inside there is ample seating, but BE AWARE there are multiple levels, so it may not be wheelchair friendly in all areas, and those with limited mobility may face a couple stairs. Inside, it's warm, comfortable, cozy, with a casual wear attitude; the servers are great, friendly and helpful, but they stay pretty busy & are on their feet rushing & managing the crowds they get here - yet they manage to get the job done, and you feel well taken care of The food is, for the most part, traditional Southern fare, with plenty of fresh fruits & vegetables thrown in. Quite a bit is what I would call 'comfort food', as well as fried & BBQ. All I have tried has been good, though my Southern wife will tell you her mom's is the best, and the Mill is only a close 2nd. Good enough - she finished her meals - mostly - because the portions are so large she had to take some home. By the way, check out the Mill history & take a walk around if you have time to. They have a gift shop/general store attached to the mill where you can buy all kinds of stuff, including flours and fresh stone ground grains produced at this mill using the old time methods, as well as stone ground products from Nora's Mill up the road near Helen. There's also several attractive & cute shopping centers/straps abutting the mill property and are in short walking distance which may merit a visit by you and yours, depending on your time and interests. If you found this review useful feel free to give it the ol' thumbs up so I know if I'm wasting my time posting this kind of detailed review.
