I come into Salt Lake pretty regularly, and was looking for something new. I saw this place on my last trip, it advertises jazz and blues.
Waling into the bar, it also set up nicely, but no stage. The female bartender, Fathom C, was tacky abrupt and wasn’t welcoming. Additionally, I come into quiet bars to relax and unwind. I don’t need to hear the F-bomb dropped by the bartender in every conversation. Music is canned, there is no stage. The only food offered when I asked was a Cubano. Willing to take a chance I committed to the sandwich. It was disappointingly premade and shoved in a toaster oven. The side was chips, but they only had Cajun spicy chips. All out of anything else. I sat there patiently while she waited on everyone else until my food was about done, then was asked what I wanted to drink. When the sandwich came it was small and the chips were stale.
Before I finished my beer, my tab was shoved in front of me to settle since they were changing shift. I had to ask for a second beer. I then had to immediately settle my tab.
The new bartender was OK. If I had him, I would have given higher ratings. There is way too many choices in the area, and they have lost a possibly repeating customer. My $30 would have been better spent at Squatters or Red Rock or any of the other places that have good customer service and quality food.
If a bar like this alienated me, how many other customers have they lost by poor food and...
Read moreA downtown drinkers staple in Utah. A place where everybody knows your name. The setting is more reminiscent of a small locals bar on the East coast, with ambience and style of an authentic Jazz bar. The bartenders can be surly, but this isn't Chili's. Jazz and blues are usually playing on the soundsystem and it plays perfectly with the ambiance. Greg the bartender/owner has that old, wise soul you need when you just got dumped or lost your job and day drinking is on the menu. Weekend evenings attracts the college crowd and with that comes longer lines and a lack of space to sit. The outside patio allows smoking so that can be a selling point for some, and a con for others. All in all one of my favorite spots to stop into when...
Read moreScott the bar tender was not very friendly and did not make us feel very welcome. I know that sounds like the typical American thinking the world owes them something. But hey, is it too much to ask for a little hospitality when I'm giving you my hard earned cash for overpriced drinks?
The dirty Martini had about as much brine as...well it was just gross. The tequila sunrise was heavy on the tequila. If we were playing bartender Russian roulette then we splattered our brains all over the other patrons...of which there were few.
The atmosphere was a bit drab and dreary, etc... I feel like I'm on a bit of a snowbalking negativity roll here so lets change gears.
This bar is just average. You can and should find somewhere...
