I recently stayed in downtown San Antonio for 4 nights. I enjoy checking out the many craft breweries during my travels. I always go to ones that are in walking distance of my hotel. When walking & especially while drinking beer, I drink plenty of water carrying a bottle with me at all times. Once I’m in a brewery, I am able to refill at their water station or they fill it for me. I had previously visited four other breweries in the area before going into Idle Brewery this past Wednesday night on April 24th. I walked in with my usual bottle of water and was told by the bartender I could not have it in there. At first, I didn’t want to believe him. Thought he was joking. But he was serious, saying no outside beverages. Even water? Seriously? Needless to say, I didn’t stay and simply walked out. I can understand a no outside beverage policy, but water? This is way over the top strict. Thankfully, there are many other choices in the area, all of which allowed me to...

This is my new favorite spot in town. Here's why:

Good vibes- people who work here are super nice and friendly and the whole place is just approachable and chill

Excellent drink menu- there's something for everyone here from beer to cocktails to non alcoholic options

Amazing design and decor - guys, this place is stylish without being too stuffy or bougie or pretentious

Dog friendly - so easy to come here with your pup and yet it's not overrun with dogs or anything like that. This place is well balanced and I love the room to have your pup in or outside

Good music- if you are a millennial who likes alt rock, it's a bit on the nose for you lol

Thai bird food access- excellent food option outside that will eventually be next door at the new make access space. Dang their food tasty y'all

Kinda feel like it's my extended living room if I wanna hang out by myself but also there's a bunch of diverse groups here (bros, families, hot girls, etc). Super happy with...

UPDATE: I forgot to mention. The Bouncer didn’t ask for our ID’s, but instead, gave us issues regarding our coffee. They don’t have any signage at the door that says NO OUTSIDE DRINKS ALLOWED EITHER.

The first few times we came, it was a great time! We thought it was great vibes, especially with the music. Had zero issues. Would bring coffee from MIA’s coffee next door to IDLE a few times already. The Staff has seen me with it. No issues before, UNTIL TODAY!

IDs to enter a bar vs bringing in coffee should be more important.

The Bouncer was strict about us entering with my coffee for some weird reason. Kept repeating himself too. I’d understand another alcoholic beverage, but coffee! TAKE THAT STICK OUT!

And my Henny on the rocks was watered down. Do not recommend. My husband’s beer was not great either.

We won’t be...

Superfun converted industrial space with not just a few beers and a buncha cocktails, but ACTIVITIES too! 👍👍 There's skeeball, steel tip darts, that hoops game, pinball, pool/billiards, and some (horrible) cornhole boards and giant Connect 4 in their shared courtyard. The games and darts do all kinda sit right in the natural flow of foot traffic though, and/or are smushed into too-small of an area - I wish they had more elbow room. We didn't get a chance to try Idle's beers (shock!! Lol. We'll be back for that đŸ€ đŸ») but the cocktails we tried - Halloween special butterbeer (rootbeer + vodka + butterscotch sauce) and a frozen boozed-up cherry Coke - were very sweet, but very delish.

Idle has become one of my new favorite bars in San Antonio! Being close to the Riverwalk, the bar is perfect for tourists and locals alike to stop in for a drink or a bite at the nearby food hall. There are a variety of games and a large outdoor space for kids or dogs. Great draft cocktails for quick and courteous service and the beers are nice ‘n cold - I recommended the Mexican Lager! The space is huge and perfect for groups of friends, even on busy nights it never feels too crowded. Whether you’re visiting San Antonio or you’re a local looking for a staple, Idle is worth checking out.
