First off i didn't eat breakfast, and I was starving when I went in for lunch after work and ordered their lunch special (crispy taco plate) I got 1 chicken and 1 beef crispy taco and rice and beans. So I knew when the waitress brought my food, literally three minutes after ordering, I knew the rice was gonna be mushy because you can tell just looking at it, and everything was too hot, like when you heat up something in the microwave for 20 secs and its burning hot and you gotta wait a few to start eating it, well that's how the rice and beans were, and the rice was so mushy and clumped together, the beans were good, so that's what I ended up eating, half of the bland crispy chicken taco, and a flour tortilla with beans. The chicken had no flavor at all, so I just put a lot of the green hot sauce on it just to eat most of it, and the beef taco... Jeez I was expecting to bite into it and just enjoy bc that's my fave taco, and the beef/meat was so oily and mushy and did not taste like fresh ground beef or picadillo, I don't know if the beef sits in oil until its ordered or what, but lost my appetite, the waitress was so sweet and offered to get me a "fresh taco" but I kindly declined but she brought it anyways, smh but didn't want to try it because it was the same meat and I had already lost my appetite. I wasted $14.00 there and I'm still...
Read moreDisclaimer: Pete's is usually a favorite of our and is on list of to-go's when deciding on where to visit.
TL:DR: • We were seated next to the bathroom • Hostess refused to seat us elsewhere • Long wait time for a drink order • Cold food, small filling portion, stale/tough tortilla.
Today's experience: We were greeted kindly and asked to follow to our seats. We were seated in the furthest back of the restaurant right next to the bathrooms. And when I say next to the bathroom, I mean I can touch the door with no strain from where I'm sitting.
Because we were sat so far I dont believe that our server was aware we were waiting. I asked the hostess if we could be re-seated because we had not been waited on yet and because sitting next to the bathroom isnt a great perception of "we care about our customer and want them to have a good eating experience". She informed me that she couldnt because she didnt want to mess up the rotation and there were no tables available, which wasn't true. (Note: the server was attentive once she knew we had been seated at her table, no issues there).
When we received our food, (I ordered 4 tacos) it was cold, the portion of the fillings was small, and the tortillas were tough almost like they were stale. Not sure what was off about today but ultimately we were...
Read more⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Pete’s Takos is a hidden gem in the heart of San Antonio!
From the moment we arrived, we knew we were in for something special—not just because of the delicious smell coming from the kitchen, but also because of who we were sharing the space with. San Antonio’s finest—EMS crews, firefighters, police officers, detectives, and even nurses and medical staff—were all lined up alongside us, clearly regulars who know where to find the real good food. If that’s not a sign of safety and quality, I don’t know what is!
The tacos? Absolutely next level. The freshly homemade flour tortillas are soft, warm, and slightly chewy—just perfect. But the star of the show? The Barbacoa (only available on weekends). Rich, flavorful, melt-in-your-mouth perfection. Each bite was packed with that slow-cooked, seasoned-to-perfection taste that just makes you close your eyes and savor the moment.
And the location couldn’t be better—just steps from the beautiful San Antonio River Walk. After indulging in all that ooey-gooey goodness, you can take a scenic stroll along the river to walk it off. It’s the kind of place you come for the food but end up staying for the vibe and local love.
Pete’s Takos is officially on our must-visit list every time we’re in town. Can’t recommend it...
