I will add a final star for consistency after more visits, but for now I was thoroughly impressed. The band was energetic and original with its covers of 80s favorites. The food was delicious. The jaeger schnitzel was tender and moist; other restaurants cover the cutlet with sauce to mask poor technique but these guys know what they're doing. The only bone I have to pick is that there's not enough sauce. I know, I know....I don't want my meat slathered but I do want more. The sauce that did come with the schnitzel was omfg delicious. They added...I think they were pickled enokis to the usual white caps and the results were like something out of a German enchanted forest. My dinner mates had equally tasty helpings of wiener schnitzel; another had a hamburger that he rated "excellent". So contentment all around. Our server was quick and kind and knowledgeable. That she had an eastern European accent added to the experience. She seemed to be covering for another missing server but this didn't diminish her abilities. She is a credit to the place. The hostess was equally helpful and quick at meeting our needs; we needed a table when they seemed to be at their busiest and she stepped up and without pausing she gave me a 4-minute estimate. Which was beyond perfect. This was around 8:45 on a Saturday night when the place was seemingly SRO. So go, hungry traveler. Let not the noise and boister impede your good judgement: these are happy fellow travelers whose clamor may be taken as an invite,...
Read moreI was there with my 3 colleagues from work for dinner on Wednesday July 10, 2024. The place was packed and very, very loud. Both doors to the restaurant were open. So we were sitting outside. You need to order using your phone. Service was fast and friendly. As I am German, I was asked to order for everyone. I got half liter of Hofbraeu Helles, which were great and I can recommend. Then as appetizer the large Brezen (correct German is with a 'B'). The Brezen was a soft one and was disappointing. Not something I would get in Germany. Didn't even taste as I am used to. Then we got the vegetable plate with Spaetzle [Spa:etzle]. I liked that one. We also order two types of Schnitzel. I think one was the chicken and the other was pork. The real Wiener Schnitzel is supposed to be with veal. Both were fried and tasted good. We also got the Wurstplate (sausage plate) which was disappointing. The sausage were too fatty. Schroeder is ok, good enough, and seems very popular. What really matters in a German Beerhall is the atmosphere and the beer, also known as Gemuetlichkeit. Schroeder has that. I may be back but more...
Read moreCome here for the beer. Don't come here for the food or the cocktails.
I was super excited to try the Sichuan Summer - ever since I went to Chicago's Broken Shaker, I have been fiending for more drinks that involve Sichuan peppercorn. I ordered it... took three sips, and left the rest of the $12 cocktail there - albeit there wasn't much left because it's a rather small cocktail. It tastes very sweet (no spice to it) - kind of like mildly alcoholic koolaid, so if that's your thing, go forth and prosper.
But what was criminal was the jager schnitzel. It came out and was beautifully plated. I dug in. Unfortunately, it was lukewarm (not piping hot) and extremely thin (all breading, no piggie). It might have been delicious about 10 minutes ago but had been clearly sitting around for a while. Perhaps this is service's fault. I'll give it credit though; the mushrooms and kugel surrounding the meat was delicious.
Also had pickled veggies and the potato pancakes (which WERE hot and were...
