We dined at Rhett for Mother’s Day brunch. We made our reservations online, and walked in, and we were promptly seated. Our server got us some drinks, and when we walked to the buffet, we were immediately shocked and displeased at the selection offered for the price point of $50 per person. This was a glorified, continental hotel breakfast, to say the absolute least. Scrambled eggs, bacon, waffles, and chicken, and fruit with yogurt. The menu advertised shrimp and grits, however, the only shrimp offered was cold shrimp with cocktail sauce, and Tabasco. While the grits were good, they were ice cold. If the food on the buffet tasted good, it was cold. Everything else was subpar at best. I would rather have eaten at Parker‘s gas station. Having worked in a restaurant for majority of my life, I tried to have understanding over the lukewarm meal coming off the buffet, until we scooped out eggs from the pan that were green, and smelled absolutely atrocious. We kindly asked our server if they could scramble up some fresh eggs for our six-year-old, and while they obliged, we were met with a very curt response from the chef who said while the food may not have looked good, it was still definitely edible. We had to wait until 11 to be served our marketed free mimosa for mom, and the other tables around us were equally as displeased not only with the service, but with the food quality of the buffet. I definitely expected a little more variety for the price point, and if they weren’t going to have variety, they could have at least made sure that our food wasn’t cold. After we were dismissed over our concern with the eggs, they changed the eggs out for new ones. Nobody wants to be the person that complains in the restaurant on Mother’s Day, but if I felt like my concerns would have been met with understanding, I would’ve asked for a manager earlier instead of taking this report to Google. $130 is the price I am willing to pay for quality. This breakfast was supposed to be a nice splurge for our family, and we were met with a lot of disappointment over what we received. I had very high hopes for this, after reading the restaurants, Google reviews, and regular menu, I was really looking forward to having a nice meal that I didn’t have to cook for Mother’s Day. Instead, my family is having to go get different food after dining for $130 because the options given to us on the buffet we’re not enough for anyone to even be satiated. We are locals-and I will not be dining at this...
Read moreWe got married in Savannah Monday, June 21st. Given we live in Boston, we had to book everything remotely and most things, sight unseen! As you can imagine, there was a little apprehension and nervousness around this!
To that end, we did a lot of online research to find the right venue for us. Given the pandemic, we decided to find a place with a private room. My husband came across the Rhett within the Alida and our experience was incredible!
We connected with Ellie Tumlinson who was super responsive! She was also very flexible and adaptable! We had so many questions and made several changes to the menu and the types of food we were looking for. We liked the items that were already on the menu, but we have dietary restrictions and preferences. I.e., no gluten, no cheese, no meat (fish and eggs are okay), etc. Pretty complicated, right? Yet, none of these flustered Ellie in the least! Not only did she work with us to make the changes, every single thing was right! I should also mention, I had requested a special champagne and she was able to get it. AND just a few days before the event, I emailed Ellie (totally last minute) with a special request for my husband. It wasn't something she had on hand, but nonetheless she was able to get it, no problem. When we arrived, it was chilled and beautifully presented on our table!
When we arrived for dinner, Rachel Matte greeted us. She was also fantastic! We felt like we had known her for years! She was so warm and we were immediately comfortable with her. Rachel has a really warm demeanor and is very professional. At all points, she had everything under control. It was fantastic! We didn't have to worry about a thing. Champagne was chilled and the glasses (we had dropped off Tiffany's flutes earlier in the weekend) were set! Everything looked beautiful and Rachel was on top of all of it.
One thing I will mention is when we arrived, we were late and starving, so my husband asked Rachel to put the apps in and get started with drinks. There was a spot around the corner, where we wanted to get more pictures. We ate and drank, left for more pics and then came back and Rachel had the entrees ready to go. Nothing flustered this woman and she didn't miss A BEAT!! So grateful for this!!!! Her timing was impeccable!!!
Lastly, the food was awesome and the room was so nice!!! We loved it. We hope to be visit again when we head back to Savannah for our one year...

First and foremost, WOW! My wife and I just wrapped up our honeymoon trip to Savannah - a city we've frequented over recent years. With such a significant trip, we wanted to try a few new restaurants and bars that we either hadn't visited in the past or that were newer, at least to our knowledge. Rhett was at the top of our list and came highly recommended from our bed and breakfast.
We made a reservation for 6:30pm, arrived at 6:00pm, and sat immediately without hesitation or issue. Admittedly, we were the only people [no hyperbole - the ONLY people] in the restaurant at the time, so we would've been surprised otherwise. But being the literal only table sat for the first 60 minutes of our dining experience led to such a fantastic, exclusive, behind-the-scenes feeling night.
Rosie was our server and she was extraordinary. Fantastic personality, great knowledge both of Rhett and other Savannah eateries, and was so welcoming and kind to us on our visit. She made some great recommendations that guided our order and everything we had was unbelievably good. The brut offered in their 'Sparkling Hour', hush puppies, calamari, fried chicken, short rib, and their deserts were all delectible.
Sincerely, everything was flawless. Menu, vibes, service. Top. To. Bottom. Perfection.
Genuinely, we struggled to return to our bed and breakfast and chat with the hotel manager about the location, because (being that it was so slow) we were unsure if Rhett was a hidden gem, or if it was just due to more of an 'off-season' in Savannah. And now, we are yearning for Rhett to be busy enough to where they become/remain a Savannah [and Plant Riverside] STAPLE, but we also - selfishly - always want the 'exclusive' experience we had to remain.
All of this to say, if you're visiting Savannah and enjoy a well-decorated restaurant with great southern plates and apps, and delicious deserts, Rhett needs to be at the top...
