As a tiki enthusiast from California I make it a point to stop in one every trip I go on across the states. I had been looking forward to going to this specific tiki bar while in Savannah for thanksgiving with my family. We all excitedly went there one evening in hopes of finding a tiki bar we can visit time and time again while in town with family during the holidays. Upon arrival we noticed the amazing detail in decor and lighting. It was beautiful! But we soon noticed they were playing emo, goth, punk music, like “my chemical romance” “the used”, fallout boys” Which is fine. I like tiki bars that are a bit eccentric and outside of the box, but they kept playing that same genre song after song and the volume was so loud my family and I had to yell at each other to have a conversation. One song was literally about committing suicide. At that point my family and I all agree to politely ask the waitress if we can possibly change the music. She replies that she cannot change the music and that we would have to take that up with management. We politely ask her to bring the manager over. He comes to the table clearly agitated. We ask him “hi is there anyway we could change the music to something more tiki or even just something a bit more upbeat?” He replies “Sure, but we’re just trying to keep it lively in here.” Note that the last song played was about committing suicide. So the manager leaves and proceeds to turn on the “baby shark” song and the “Barbie” amongst other kids songs. Clearly a purposely passive aggressive action towards us. We overlook it and proceed to order drinks. I order the quintessential classic tiki drink and staple the “Zombie”. They say they can’t make it. “Okay I’ll just do a painkiller” (another classic) Can’t make it. “Okay a navy grog”… can’t make it. So I settled for a drink I never heard of which ended up tasting like a grocery store mix. All and all we left after one drink and very disappointed. The manager is not accommodating, the drinks are bad, the music is bad. All this place has going for it is the decor which clearly took a lot of hard work and planning. It’s a shame all that hard work the owner clearly put into the decor and layout has gone to waste. It is really sad. I hope the owner can put management in line and address some mixology issues. It’s clear they truly appreciate tiki bars and I hope the best for this place. Unfortunately, I have no desire to ever visit this...
Read moreMy wife and I are pretty big tiki bar fans. We have a pretty extensive rum collection at home and loving trying new tiki bars while we travel.
Bamboo room did not disappoint from that perspective. The drinks we had were excellent and quality made tiki drinks. More specifically they were not super sweet and had complex flavor profiles.
The bar is above Sorry Charlie’s. You won’t see much signage at all which is how tiki bars are supposed to be.
The bar itself is well decorated and dark to create the relaxing tiki escapism.
On to the most important part, the drinks. Our first round was a River Pilot and Northshore. Second round we had a Pog-Cutter and Black Magic. 3/4 of these drinks were great for our taste buds!
I’ve been meaning to try a Black Magic before my visit here given it is a pretty unique tiki drinks. When I saw it on the menu I knew we would have to order it. It is a little more bitter for our taste buds, but glad we finally got to try it.
Overall, we love tiki bars that make great cocktails. Sometimes you don’t know if your going to just get really sweet beech drinks or complex tiki drinks. Bamboo Room doesn’t disappoint and provides some really...
Read moreMost important- Drinks: every single one was tasty and unique, they nailed all my favorite classic tiki drinks but they really shine with their bar specific options!
Wait staff: Our waitress was incredibly sociable and made the experience unforgettable!
Atmosphere: The decor in the Bamboo Room is some of the best of any tiki bar I’ve ever been to! BUT...
What really hurts the experience here and cannot be understated, is the music. It can make or break the whole experience and unfortunately instead of all the amazing Polynesian and reggae classics that would have made my experience absolutely perfect. Unfortunately... instead they were playing club mixes of pop hits... not only did it ruin the aesthetics but the pounding bass of the tracks quickly gives you a headache that throbs to the beat and ruins the escapism.
Please please PLEASE play appropriate music. It’s hurting your whole experience! Why build a Polynesian masterpiece and ruin it with a Justin Bieber club mix.
Will upgrade to 5 stars if the music is fixed!
EDIT: Ok we went back tonight and the music selection was 10/10. And our waitress Tasha was THE BEST! I can’t wait to...
