It's a similar concept to other sushi places - you pick up the sushi rolls that you want, buffet-style, and pay by the pound Unfortunately, I found this place to be a lot worse than the other one I've been to with this style - FOB Sushi Bar
The problems started with the sushi rice. It felt very dry, like it had either been cooked with not enough water, or more likely, it had been sitting out there for a while In fact, a lot of the rolls I saw felt like they had been made a while ago and been sitting there. there just wasn't the demand for them to constantly be making new batches of sushi. Comparing this against the other sushi bar, where new rolls would come out extremely frequently
The options are also pretty limited - there's only about 10 or so different types of rolls to choose from - and nothing except sushi. There's also no real choices of sauces except a packet of soy sauce
The fish was okay - the shrimp tempura had a decent crunch, and the crab wasn't bad - but I wasn't a fan of the seared salmon. It felt gray-ish rather than pink
The price was the only positive thing - it ended up being around $9 for the five pieces that I got, which is pretty good. I would've gotten more, but none of the other rolls looked that enticing
Overall, the concept seems decent in theory, as proven by FOB Sushi Bar, it can be successful, but this place does not do...
Read moreI very rarely leave reviews (only in exceptional cases whether good or bad) and I must say today I had one of the nicest interactions I have had at a culinary establishment and some really great food.
I ordered a miso soup after work (I was tired and hungry and just wanted something warm). Due to an issue with the computer system (not their fault in any way), my order had not shown up on the screen. I was engrossed in something for work, but I looked at the time and noticed some time had passed. As my order was just the soup, something I hadn't expected to take long, I went to inquire.
The person that was behind the counter (shout out to the incredible Borito) was the most kind about the situation. Not only did he apologize wholeheartedly for how long I had to wait (I really didn't mind and it was not all that long, a bit over 20 minutes) and stop what he was doing immediately to get me my soup, but took it upon himself to make me two hand rolls as an apology for my wait (after asking me what my favorite seafood was) and asked me to come back to let him know how my food was.
Of course, the food was just as incredible as Borito is a server. One of the best miso soups in the seattle area and good quality fish. I really enjoyed myself, will be coming back, and will be recommending to...
Read moreWe ordered two Premium Sushi & Special Roll Bento boxes each with kake udon. The menu description said a bento would include the Mikan roll, 6pc omakase sushi, 2 pieces of tuna hosomaki, edamame, salad, gyoza, and miso soup. Too good to be true.
We received two boxes, but neither of them matched the description on the menu. One box contained a Mikan roll, 3 pieces of a kimbap-like roll, salad and edamame. No omakase, no tuna maki. Our second box contained the omakase (a California roll topped with unagi), 3 more pieces of the kimbap, salad and edamame. No Mikan roll, no tuna maki again. There was also no gyoza and no miso at all. We would not have missed the miso since we ordered udon, but we did miss the second bowl of udon we ordered.
The Mikan roll was good; we really liked the yuzu mustard dressing. The rest of the food was fine or underwhelming, and our enjoyment was spoiled by how poorly miscommunicated or falsely advertised the item was. The omakase felt lazy, and there was too much sauce. The salad was underdressed, which is too bad since the dressing was good. No seasoning at all on the edamame, several of which were bruised.
The whole experience left us feeling disappointed, confused,...
