Another example of a Sedona “café” where Digital Nomads and/or remote workers are not necessarily encouraged to spend their money & hang out. 💻 🚫
I had high hopes, but was overall disappointed with Layla’s as I was looking for somewhere to pay for a nice breakfast & be permissioned to enjoy a reasonable amount of time (not camping all day) on WiFi 😔 After spending $20 per person (!!!), my husband & I asked about WiFi only to learn that they don’t offer it to their paying patrons…. 🤔 It’s so strange in the 21st century, but then again, this is America and the “get in and get out” culture is rampant.
I need to adjust my expectations that cafés here (more often than not) do not hold space for patrons to spend long easeful days sipping coffee, doing a little work, and enjoying a ‘third space’— especially here in Sedona. Maybe it’s the over-touristed trauma response…. 🤷♀️
I did make an effort to read other 1 & 2-star reviews on Google before posting this and it appears that I’m not alone in this camp.
Although I appreciate the owner’s point of view: “they have limited seating to accommodate guests in busy season” and “the library is right down the street,” these excuses are unfortunately not meaningful in the 21st Century— especially when you’re charging $14 for avocado toast. 😬 More than half of your patrons take their orders to-go, leaving nearly all of your seating during the week available (I visited on a Wednesday). Why not find a way to limit/moderate access to WiFi for patrons who would like to stay?
We’ve all been to plenty of cafés that require guests to pay for something & then receive a time-limited access to complimentary internet. This can even be automated to print on the receipt. 😊 It’s a great way to encourage high-paying, repeat customers while also not limiting who might want to spend time in your café.
Just some solid feedback to consider, but if it’s not your flavor of kool-aid that’s OK too. 😉
Otherwise, croissant was truly great (kudos to pastry chef Javier!), but coffee and smoothie — ehh, iffy at best. My cappuccino was more like a latte and the smoothie wasn’t anything special. Potato salad recipe needs some...
Read moreWe live in Hawaii but I’ve been coming here for a few years now since we bought a vacation home here in Sedona and it’s always been a pleasant experience. This was one of my favorite coffee shops here. But today, I was very, very disappointed. I ordered a lavender green tea matcha which I was excited of trying because I haven’t had a lavender infused matcha before however, the lavender flavor was quite overwhelming for me. My drink tasted like it has a lavender oil floating on top of my cup. So, I asked the barista nicely if they can remake my drink without the lavender on it and they were very rude about it. No smile, no apologies about me not liking my drink, instead, she lectured me of making sure I get something I’m comfortable with next time and looked so unhappy about my request. I felt very humiliated but I didn’t want to make a scene and act like “KAREN” 🙄🤦🏽♀️ So, I just let it go, I didn’t say anything and just waited for my drink outside. When the server came to deliver my drink, I politely said thank you and told her that I appreciate them accommodating my request but she was not smiling at all and rudely told me in front of other customers that they don’t normally remake the drink unless there’s something wrong with it. At this point, I had enough humiliation and I just left without touching the new cup of matcha that she gave me. I could have easily paid for a new drink if they asked me to instead of being treated that way. I felt like I was treated differently because of my race. I feel very humiliated at that place. I will never go back there again. Thats not how we treat people in...
Read moreIncredible coffee shop but their popularity is known and is very busy! I got here just after open and was barely able to get a seat before the hordes showed up. Totally worth it either way though!
Their bakery is bar none the best in Sedona. They have a wide variety of items they rotate daily. I got the blueberry scone and it was literally perfect. Loaded with blueberries where most places skimp. The bread was velvety and buttery and it wasn't too sweet. Perfect coffee cake type scone.
I got a croque madame for breakfast, which is probably my all-time favorite breakfast meal. Theirs was almost perfect. The egg was overcooked so I barely got the yoke in any of my bites. It's meant to spill out everywhere. But the rest was 10/10. Tons of creaminess in the bechemel sauce, lots and lots of ham filling, and the bread was both crunchy and soft, which is the perfect texture for cutting and eating.
This is a must try place in Sedona, 100%. I'm sad it took me a week of my trip to discover it. I usually look for co-working capable coffee shops, which is why I avoided this one, due to its busy-ness. I definitely couldn't work here but whatever. This...
