We were visiting Zion for the first time as a family and decided to take in the view for our last dinner before heading home. If I could give this place a 0 star for their manager, Fernando, I would. I have NEVER been treated like this at a restaurant before. When our family of 4 was first seated down to a tiny square table, we asked to be moved to a bigger table since we felt very cramped. There were 2 open picnic style tables next to us but Fernando said that he could not move us there. We said fine but still could not understand why we couldn't move if there were empty tables. And we also saw a party of 2 seated at one of those picnic style tables. When our appetizers and food came, we literally had NO space to eat our meal. I even moved the condiments basket and I had no space to even eat my little bowl of Mexican corn. It was very hard to help my daughter with her meal of ribs since I had to cut it for her and I didn't have enough space to do anything. We kept having to move our water glass and beer over to the wooden shelf next to us to make space. So after having a very frustrating meal, we mentioned to Fernando that as you can see, we did not have any room to eat. He said "I can see that and TOO BAD!" We were in utter shock. Then he aggressively shoved the machine in my face to pay. I didn't even see the itemized bill for our meal or anything and he kept pushing the machine in my face to pay. I grabbed my phone out to pay with Apple pay and was having some access issues. He then grabbed my phone and started pushing at it like it was HIS phone. I was appalled, I have never been treated sooooo aggressively like that at a restaurant. He never provided my receipt either. Fernando was extremely rude and pushy. He should not be in the service industry with that type of...
Read moreThe views on patio were awesome! And most of the food we got was amazing. However prices are extreme ($22 for tacos), but it seems every restaurant in Zion is extreme pricing. Service just ok. What really left a bad taste for us was to find out they charge you a fee for separate checks. To split a table of 3 people into two checks, after already paying 15+ per drink and expensive food. The other downfalls didn’t really matter as much and we likely would have overlooked until we found that out and then that just tipped it over the edge. One of three mains came out way before the other two, which was a bit weird. I ordered jalepeno on my tacos which never came on them. The street corn was nothing like a normal one, it was a watery soup in a bowl, and honestly disgusting. I asked the server if that was normal for the corn to be completely submerged in water, then the crema was just melting and mixing into it, she said yes it’s just corn juice. I didn’t eat it and clearly didn’t like it but she didn’t care to offer a solution such as a new side dish or a redo. The sweet pork tacos though were awesome! We weren’t given a bill and just she just verbalized our total and handed the machine, which I thought was very odd. She promptly got us a bill when we asked though, and luckily there was an error and the system didn’t charge the split bill fee after all.
It wasn’t bad service but just not amazing, and the split check fee should have been verbalized prior, but honestly should never ever be a fee at any restaurant. Totally ridiculous. For the price of the bill at this restaurant, you’d expect a...
Read moreI feel a bit lied to after our meal at Whiptail. I’d like to start by saying I have no complaints about the service or the facilities. We ordered a quesadilla for a starter, which was good but much larger than we expected. We therefore should not have been surprised that our entrees were also massive. When we commented on this, our waiter said “they don’t mess around here,” which we heard a different waiter say later to another table. I ordered the stuffed avocado salad with chicken, which came un-mixed with the dressing on the side. It was very difficult to eat because the bowl was over filled, the avocados were underripe, and the corn and diced vegetables were difficult to scoop onto the fork with everything else. The dressing was okay but a bit one-note. It overall felt like a very lazily assembled dish. My dad ordered the shrimp tacos. The shrimp themselves were well-seasoned, but the rice and beans it came with were very bland, and again the portions were so large that he didn’t even touch these two sides. It just felt wasteful to have such huge portions, especially since many people coming to the restaurant are tourists who may not be able to keep leftovers well. The final nail in the coffin was that, while the food was mediocre, the prices were quite high! Based on the crowds outside the restaurant and the apparent hype, I really expected to have a better overall experience. Bit and Spur down the street is an entire tier above Whiptail, but the prices are almost exactly the same! I hope Whiptail reads this review to consider addressing some of their issues with their food, portions,...
