A Mixed Bag of Tropical Delights and Chilly Realities at Las Palmas My recent visit to Las Palmas on Atlantic Avenue in Virginia Beach had some definite highlights and a few areas where a little tweak could go a long way. Let's start with the stars of the show: the Mojitos! They were absolutely beautiful, each one presented with a delicate orchid. It was a lovely touch that really elevated the drink. However, for those who prefer their cocktails less sugary, a slightly less sweet version of the mojito would be a welcome option. On the food front, the Pollo Asado and Fajita Salad were flavorful, but I definitely found myself wishing for larger portions. A little more to savor would have made them even better. Now, for a couple of comfort considerations. On a chilly day, the air conditioning inside the restaurant was quite powerful, making it a bit too cold. Perhaps a gentler hand with the AC when it's already cool outside would create a more comfortable dining experience. Additionally, while I appreciate good ambiance, the music volume felt a little high. Finding that sweet spot for music, perhaps by gathering some customer feedback, could really enhance the overall atmosphere. Overall, Las Palmas has a lot going for it, especially with those stunning mojitos and tasty dishes. With a few adjustments to portion sizes, climate control, and music volume, it could truly be a...
Read moreThe service was great - almost too attentive. We weren't ready to order our food but three different people came over within seven minutes before we decided to just go ahead and order. The (cadillac) margarita I ordered wasn't strong at all. The food was delicious. I ordered the Parillada Mexicana Fajitas and my friend ordered the Texas Fajitas. The most peculiar plating was the shrimp as they are served on a kabob sticking straight up. I personally could have done without the presentation as it was difficult to remove the shrimp from the sticks. This is the first place that I've been to that serves queso AND salsa with chips upon seating. The queso was good; it had a slightly sweet aftertaste. I asked for extra sour cream and guac - it was not provided. Since it wasn't on the bill, I did not press the issue. The jalapeños were NOT pickled even though that's what we ordered. As a result our dishes were extremely spicy from the fresh jalapeños. Our mouths were on fire 🔥 🥲 There was music playing and it wasn't too crowded. We were seated immediately (party of two) on a Friday after labor day. I would...
Read moreLas Palmas is an experience first, and foremast. That experience is be our guest we’re so over joyed to have you. The moment you arrive your greeted with happy, smiling faces. After that you’ll meet one of the wonderful wait staff that will be enriching your meal. However what helps with the charm of the restaurant is all the wait staff are there to brighten your even. They’ve a full bar, I’m sober but thought I’d mention it. The chips and salsa are delicious, but there in house sauce is worlds apart from any other. Now on to their menu which has many options, and all of them make me salivate. The food here at Las Palmas is unparalleled in its flavor, and portion size. This place is my favorite restaurant on Oceanfront. Their Carnitas is my favorite dish and a perfect meal for two. The decadence of the desserts is something to treat yourself too as well. What has really kept me coming back has been the wait staff and the atmosphere. Anyone can make good food, but the people that work here make you feel appreciated. Mucho graciás Las Palmas.
