I came wondering about the background of this lovely Bavarian town, and the Greater Leavenworth museum provided a wonderful perspective starting with the Native American, early settlers, key industries, why and who was behind the town becoming what it is today, its culture, and learning about the people who have had a strong influence on skiing.
Judy, the friendly, helpful docent was a pleasure to talk with and I learned even more talking with her about the town and its people. I gained a better appreciation for Leavenworth, its community, and how important tourism is for the town. Please let the docent know if you are staying in Leavenworth; it helps the museum.
There were several children interactive exhibits that looked so fun that I almost tried them.
The signs were interesting and had a large, easy-to-read font even for someone with progressive glasses.
The museum is only $5 and it located next door to the Nutcracker museum which is also very worth a visit. There are stairs and a nice elevator for the Greater Leavenworth museum. Whether you have half an hour or 1.5 hour, it is...
Read moreWe've been to Leavenworth many times over the years but have never been to the historical museum. We never knew it was here! But, it has recently moved to the main drag and we happened upon it last night. We made it a point to come back today and were not disappointed! We sat T lunch asking ourselves, when did Leavenworth become a Bavarian themed town? What was the original industry here? What happened to that industry? All those questions and more were answered Ina beautiful display that was, obviously, lovingly and painstakingly put together. Matt, the volunteer working the front desk was a total delight and great us some great information to start our discoveries. We highly recommend this museum as an hour of your time in Leavenworth. They will also soon have an NW Alpine Skiing hall of fame there too. Super fun and...
Read moreI was on a driving trip to the Pacific Northwest and heard about Leavenworth, WA, by word of mouth. I figured I would love the town, and I did! Truly a real-life Hallmark town (except in the couple hours I could be there, no one fell in love with me, so clearly I wasn't in a movie! Hahaha). I was charmed walking through town, and saw a sign for the Greater Leavenworth Museum so decided to see what Leavenworth is all about. The museum was GREAT and the staff were awesome! He was so knowledgeable about the area and was so willing to share information and tidbits about the area. He gave me recommendations on where to eat and helped me pick out postcards! I loved the museum and the interactions I had there. The exhibits were well done and it was fun to learn more about the history of the town. Well...
