The Wilshire Grand Center is owned by Korean Airline and has its lagest tenant - InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown - that is open in June 2017 and treats an InterContinental Ambassador very well.
It honors (1) a complimentary one catagory room upgrade (Picture 2 and 3); (2) one complimentary Evian water that is chilled in a glass in the room upon check in; (3) a $20 credit per stay and redeemable at any food & beverage outlet or mini bar; and (4) a complementary in room internet accees for the stay; and (5) a 4:00 p.m. late check-out.
I had a simple lunch at Dekkadance on floor 69 (Picture ) where you can view the $1 billion Oceanwide Plaza that is under construction by a Chinese giant skyscraper builder (Oceanside) in downtown Los Angeles. This landmark project will be complete by the end of 2020, where a Park Hyatt will be one of the tenant there.
It is worth mentioning that the Club Lounge at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown is still the best. The entrance fee at $80.00 for two is well worth it, including all Sprites, Chadon Champion, Cognac (VSOP), breakfast, afternoon tea and happy hours etc. A quick glance of foods & drinks are displayed at picture 6 to 9.
It is no wonder the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown is rated as one of the Best Hotels by the U.S. News & World Reports 2019.
In summer, this hotel honors and treats the InterContinental Ambassador very well. It is a good place for a...
Read moreI visited the Wilshire center primarily to explore it as an attraction at night with some friends. If you don't have a specific destination in mind, are not a guest, and are not looking to pay a large entry fee (and are dressed appropriately) to the "nightclub" (really more of a lounge), you are largely not welcome here. The security is understandably albeit inhospitably high, and the elevators are limited in function depending on the floor you go to (so plan your routes through the floors accordingly). The few shops that exist are not open during the evening, and the restaurant closes surprisingly early given it's view-related draw. The view from floors 70+ is definitely worth seeing, and the hotel staff is extremely helpful and courteous, but the high security and lack of things to do give the building a vibe contrary to their intention. Overall it is a very nice building, and certainly a cool place to stay if visiting downtown LA, but not really a place to explore, nor in a neighborhood built...
Read moreI had a friend's family visiting from Korea stay at this expensive hotel to have a wonderful LA experience. However, I was very upset by the unfriendly service of the staff at this hotel. The building and its facilities are nice, but the staff are unfriendly.
First of all, it is the faces without a smile, starting with the people who work at the front desk.
The worst was when checking out. The Asian male employee, Chris, was a real problem. I checked out at 8:30 early in the morning, and when I was paying, the employee Chris said, "The guest ate a lot of food in the minibar." So when I asked for the receipt, $450 was billed. However, when the guest who stayed in the room said, 'I didn't eat any,' Chris said with a brusque face, 'Okay, I'll give you the receipt again' and, as if it wasn't a big deal, he excluded the food from the minibar. He hadn't called to check the room, and was just going to treat it as eating the minibar food. Then he said nothing. does this make sense?
If I hadn't asked for a receipt, the $450 would have just been processed. He didn't even say he was sorry for us. He is a very bad employee. I think he is playing a joke on people with poor English.
Also, the staff at the restaurant are very unfriendly. However, the valet parking service was nice and the price was reasonable.
I think that the staff, while working in a fancy hotel, are mistaken for themselves to be fancy people. I will never go to this hotel again.
FYI, my wife and daughter used this hotel for 3 days a few years ago, and they said they had a bad experience then too.
