For reference I am a Titanium Bonvoy level status member (previously Ambassador level for many years) and Lifetime Gold, as well as a regular global traveler. We also tend to travel regularly to Europe around this time of year (i.e. End of November - start of Christmas market season).
This was also our first trip to Czech Republic and Prague specifically and was a personal leisure trip with my spouse and 2yo child. So, of course, this was our first time at this hotel. This was a paid stay for 4 nights.
As with so many Marriott properties outside the US, the service and experience was so much better than in the US.
Check-In - So while we had not communicated at all with the hotel prior to arrival beyond the reservation request notes, and mobile check-in details, the hotel had actually paid attention to what we put in there. So I noticed in the app prior to arrival (and confirmed at arrival), we had been upgraded to an exec suite, which was on a lower floor, but was a corner room, and perfectly quiet even though closer to street level. They had the crib setup for us in the room in advance as well. The check in agent was very good and welcoming, and ensured all perks were given proactively, and also called over duty manager who had wanted to personally welcome me. All nice and great hospitality experience.
Room - As noted was an exec suite, 2 room setup on the corner on their lowest level guest floor facing the street, which I think would be best view at that property (I think there are 5 floors of guest rooms). Room was well appointed and spacious given it is central Prague on edge of Old Town. Nice closet space, they gave 2 waters per day, and had turn down service, and housekeeping responded to requests quickly. The bed was comfortable, and the crib was the most spacious and luxurious (with baby pillow and baby duvet), I have ever seen in a hotel anywhere in the world. The Bathroom had plenty of counter space, and also a large face/hand/body cream dispenser mounted which was handy. Shower pressure was great too.
Lounge - The MClub lounge was 24/7 and had different fresh and to offerings at different time. All the premium perks were experienced in the lounge (like breakfast). The facility was well appointed and usually well staffed. The staff were friendly and the place was clean and well kept with a huge bathroom as part of it, which is handy with a young child. It had great alcohol options in afternoon/evening and had a lounge area, casual seating, formal seating, and outdoor area, which was all well designed.
General Notes - Location is great on edge of Old Town, so is easy enough for Taxi/Uber to get to you but also conveniently walkable to so much of Old Town and the main Prague Train station, and nearby metro subway. If coming at this time of year there is even a Christmas market a stone's throw away from it but to note in Prague in 2023 they opened on Dec 1, so we missed all of that ourselves. Really nice open lobby, beautiful and modern café inside upon entry, and as noted staff we interacted with were both friendly and professional.
Minor Premium Critiques:
Unlike a lot of the Asian Marriott Bonvoy properties, there wasn't a proactive email welcome that definitely conveys a premium hospitality experience to an elite level guest. However because this property took care of most of the written requests in advance, this was almost moot.
At bedside tables on both sides, its always nicer and convenient to have USB ports in some form or fashion, whether direct in wall, part of device like a clock or lamp, or via a 3rd party adapter. This just saves space vs. using lots of universal adapters, as well as easier for 2 ppl sleeping to have setups on both sides
MClub Lounge Food - This was good quality and there was decent overall options, just very repetitive, especially for breakfast.
Overall I highly recommend this hotel and their staff. While it wasn't cheap, was definitely one of the best hotel experiences we have ever...
Read more10-9 Still no one from the hotel has contacted me. Maybe the only reason they replied was to make everyone believe they were taking care of the situation. Maybe they never intended to contact me at all. I really don’t understand why they would take the time to reply, but not take the time to contact me.
10/1 Another day and no contact from anyone at the hotel. I’ll continue to post updates on this review every day until such time that someone in charge at the Prague Marriott contacts me as promised.
The hotel owner responded with an apology for the incident and promised that I would be contacted by their management. As of Sept 30th, I have not been contacted. I did contact the cruise company who arranged these accommodations the same day the injuries occurred. Hopefully they will reconsider use of this hotel on future tours.
ALOT OF DETAIL - READ IT TO THE END AND YOU WILL UNDERSTAND WHY I GAVE A ONE STAR RATING
Pro - KUDOS to the management and staff. They will go above and beyond to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The bar staff can make a great mojito as well!
Cons - Room - I’m not sure what view a deluxe room should have, but ours was of the dumpsters.
BUT that wasn’t the worst part of our stay. Here we go: I was running to the elevator one morning and tried to jump on just as the doors were closing (seriously, how many of us have done this over and over again when trying to get on an elevator, a subway car or a tram without having any problem?). The doors closed on my arm and hit my hip. It seems that their elevator doors do not automatically bounce back open when something is in their way. Three of us could not pry them open manually and I believe that a gentleman on the elevator pressed the open door button repeatedly before the doors finally opened.
My left forearm was injured from my hand all the way to my elbow and my left hip was hurt as well. I reported the injuries and showed the bruises to hotel management and they genuinely expressed concern. They advised me they would have the elevator inspected.
We left a few days later for a Danube River cruise. But, discomfort from the injuries had a negative impact to me during the cruise. This was especially disappointing since we had been planning this trip for over a year. I had discomfort/pain in my left hip and needed to return to the ship during some of the tours.
When I returned home the hotel chain’s insurance company contacted me and told me there was going to be an investigation. Several weeks later the agent sent me an email advising that after the investigation they concluded the hotel had no liability. The email also advised me to contact her with any questions. I sent the agent 3 emails requesting a telephone call, details as to how they reached the decision, and some documents. As of September 20th, I haven’t receive any response.
No liability?? Since the hotel contracts the services of the elevator company and the elevator company maintains the elevators to ensure they are safe, shouldn’t someone have some liability? I have been told that things are different in Europe and those from the US shouldn’t expect things to be the same as here - WOW!
I do not typically write negative reviews; however, I wanted to let customers know of potentially unsafe environment. Be cautious where you stay because it appears you will stay at your own risk and if you suffer any...
Read moreI’ll start by saying I really didn’t want to go to Prague, my wife did, I don’t like heavy tourist destinations and Prague certainly lived up to stress for me that it expected to. But that said, this hotel made me enjoy my time in the city! We stayed here July of 2024.
I cannot say enough good things about this hotel, clean, modern, cozy but highly functional rooms, the staff were all extremely professional, and that executive lounge 🤩. It’s worth spending the extra money, we stayed on Bonvoy points and while it was definitely a higher redemption category than other Marriotts in town, it was well worth it especially due to the location. We woke up one morning early and just walked around an empty quiet city taking in usually congested sites like the Charles Bridge.
The hotel is easy easy walking distance to the old town and is also very well connected to both the metro and trams. It is a touch inconvenient with bags to the central train station but we actually took an Uber when we left as it was very affordable.
My only negatives were the arrival experience was a bit chaotic and stressful, the front desk even needed scans of our passports even as established Titanium members which I was slightly sketched out about but maybe it’s a Czechia thing? From there, while our room was immaculate, the bathroom trash had things left from the previous guest in it but we just left it outside and called the desk and housekeeping took care of it while we were out. Nothing for service recovery was offered but as you see from my review this was totally fine due to everything else being great!
I’ll also callout the service and food we got from the restaurant, while expensive, was great and very local and authentic. We also greatly appreciated the water bottle filling stations.
We may visit Czechia again for some visits to destinations in the countryside and will definitely consider...
