On our final Sunday night in Prague, we walked from the Old Town in pouring rain and were welcomed into La Gare Restaurant. Bright atmosphere, contemporary furnishings and an open kitchen made the venue very appealing. Eye candy. Our server, friendly, yet professional served the tasting wine with a delicate twist. My Gin and Tonic, served in a goblet, had a thin curled slice of cucumber. The drink was so refreshingly clean. The fish soup with a nice assortment, was in a light tomato broth and had deep flavors. My wife enjoyed her Escargot very much. Her entree, Coq au Vin was a round portion of chicken breast w pearl onions in a sauce. The Duck l’orange was a generous portion of medium rare slices on a bed of sauce dressed with delicate flat leaf parsley. Each entree was accompanied by mashed potato in ramekins. We shared a Crème Brûlée together. La Gare was one of the highlights of our 6-nights in Prague. Great food, wonderful staff and the ambience make this a dining priority. It’s a pity La Gare is some 3895 air miles away.

Great ambience as soon as you walk in. We made reservations through our hotel at 8pm on Friday for a party of 6. Wait staff were friendly. We ordered oysters, French onion soup, escargot for appetizers and French mixed salad w goat cheese. All the dishes were delicious. The goat cheese was excellent. The main dishes, we ordered the ribeye, French lamb rack, duck l’orange and beef tenderloin, and mussels with lemon emulsion. Sides - we had the French fries and Granielle (mini potatoes). The food was excellent. But the food was slow hence the knocking off one star. We were starving after a long day of exploring the city. We didn’t get our main course til after 50mins. Our dinner ending taking more than 2 hours, much longer than our usual dining session. There were times we waited 20-30 mins in between each course. Overall, it’s definitely quality here, just hope the speed of the food would arrive one after the next.

Conveniently located brasserie next to Hilton and Marriott hotels downtown Prague in the vicinity of Namesti Republiky. We had lunch there today at 13:00. The place was busy and noisy, like the “Gare”suggests - nádraží! To our dismay they were out of two items from their daily lunch menu. (???). Whoever runs this place should plan to have advertised dishes available. French onion soup was good but arrived lukewarm as if it was sitting somewhere for a while. This kind of soup should have been served steaming hot, IMO. Salads were excellent and so was Tomahawk Pork. Attentive and polite waiters. Overall it’s an average place but not for folks who want to carry a meaningful conversation due to the excessive noise. Some sound dampening decor might eliminate this issue. Prices fit the clientele and location. I give them 3 stars considering the flaws mentioned above.

DISGUSTING- Yesterday we went to La Gare restaurant for a dinner with my family. Suddenly a rat apperad on the sofa-seat next to me (it was climbing on it touching my back). Then it scared the guests next to us who left the restaurant. The rat ran away quickly to hide under the other sofa-seats next to the wall. And what happened next?

We would expect an apology from staff watching the whole scene but they moved us to another table acting like “nothing happened”. At the end they only let us pay the full price for the dinner. We are really dissapointed by their unprofessional reaction and indifference. We used to go there and like the place, but now we do not reccomend this place at all!! Only if you would like to experince “the Ratatouille” movie in a real life and possibly get some cute bacteria transmitted by rodents.

Hark! Pray, lend me thine ear whilst I regale thee with a tale of our recent sojourn to a French establishment of purported repute, La Gare by name. 'Twas yesterday eve when we ventured forth to partake in their offerings, yet alas, our expectations were not met with commensurate delight. Verily, the fare did not ascend to heights of gastronomic ecstasy, but rather lingered in realms of mediocrity.

But lo, 'twas not the victuals alone that left us wanting, for the stewardship exhibited therein was sorely lacking in professionalism. One would expect, in such environs as these, a demeanor of refinement and grace, yet we were met with naught but a semblance of tavern discourse. Informality didst reign supreme, as the attendant did handle our repast with all the care of a ruffian, clattering cutlery and glassware with reckless abandon.

Errors aplenty did mar our repast, as dishes misplaced and orders misconstrued did punctuate the evening. A mushroom sauce in lieu of truffle for the steak, a grievous misstep indeed. And to add insult to injury, a fee for service rendered, unbidden and unwarranted, didst affront our sensibilities. Forsooth! To levy such a charge without forewarning smacks of impropriety, nay, of outright chicanery!

And yet, 'twas not the sole transgression, for the revelation of a fee for the mere act of bringing our own confection didst leave us aghast. Never afore had we encountered such a levy, and to learn of it only upon the presentation of the bill didst sour the evening's proceedings further.

Thus, with heavy hearts and discontented palates, we departed La Gare, our spirits dampened and our mirth extinguished. 'Twas meant to be a celebration, yet 'twas naught but a fiasco. In truth, I shall not darken their threshold again, for the memory of this ill-fated repast shall linger long in my mind, a cautionary tale of culinary disappointment and wanton disregard...

So out of all my reviews this will be one of my more complex reviews. Let's start with the positive. Like many reviews on Google food at this restaurant has always scored so highly and with this review it is no different. I must say that for a restaurant to not have a generic meat option is rare and all meat options are how should I say "rare" as they don't serve chicken but African Guinea fowl for example.

Food presentation and taste balls core 5 star with no complaints at all. The mushroom sauce is simply created to perfection, secondly is the decor which is beautiful, the flower wall, entrance table, light features all are beautiful.

Now the compliments must come to an end. I am fully aware the in the Czech Republic more jobs are on offer than citizens to fill those position but I am truly shocked that a luxury restaurant employs such low quality, inexperienced and rude staff. In any industry it does not matter if yuo work for Ferrari or lidl if you have a generic position your pay is the same so why is it that waiters in this restaurant feel they are entitled and above anyone else.

When asking questions about the menu you are met with a response as if you are annoying them. A fork was not placed next to my plate and have to wait 10 minutes after getting my food to be brought my fork. New helper is so lost and could not take orders nor did he even get a waiter to take our extras order. One waiter was coughing while taking our order which again is not professional he had to step back. And finally after all that we were pressured to leave a tip and specifically was told. It is not included which felt very much like in America when they pressure you. For a tip and not. Something you expect in a luxury restaurant.

Very very shocked and disappointed with the management and service at...
