We visited this restaurant with high expectations – it’s a place with an excellent reputation that we had been looking forward to for a long time. Unfortunately, the overall experience fell well short of what we anticipated.
Although we arrived slightly early, the staff asked us to wait outside until the exact time of our reservation. Even at 7:30 p.m., our table still wasn’t ready, and we had to wait another 10 minutes outside. For a restaurant of this caliber, that was a disappointing start.
A welcome drink was prepared for us once we were seated, which was a nice gesture and tasted great. Sadly, that turned out to be one of the few positives of the evening.
Throughout the dinner, we were seated directly under an air conditioning vent blowing cold air like a fan. We brought this up to the staff while ordering, and they kindly said they would look into it. They offered to move us once a table became available elsewhere, but despite seeing several empty tables throughout the evening, we were never moved.
We ordered the restaurant’s signature duck dish (two courses for two), along with jasmine tea and lemonades. The food presentation was impressive, but the portions were surprisingly small – we didn’t feel satisfied after all three courses. Even worse, the food arrived nearly cold. Combined with the constant cold airflow, this completely ruined the dining experience.
Even though I pointed out to the staff that the main course was cold – although it was quite tasty – I did not receive an apology. Instead, I was told that the food is prepared on a different floor and that they had many orders that evening. Honestly, a simple apology would have been enough.
What surprised us even more was when the staff mentioned that the noodles weren’t freshly made, but rather pre-prepared – and that this was the reason they couldn’t be served hot. This argument truly caught us off guard and left us questioning the overall approach to food quality in the restaurant.
As a small gesture of compensation, they likely removed one jasmine tea from our bill, which was appreciated, but did little to change our overall impression.
The dessert – sweet sticky rice – was enjoyable, but it couldn’t redeem the experience. We left the restaurant disappointed and, unfortunately, still hungry.
It’s a real shame. Perhaps we were just unlucky that evening, but given the restaurant’s pricing and reputation, we expected a much more professional service and a higher-level...
Read moreDisappointing Dining at Sia Restaurant. With high hopes based on ratings and reviews, our experience at Sia Restaurant was a letdown on multiple fronts. While the location is wonderful, the restaurant fails to utilize its full potential.
A Spicy roller coaster While the menu indicated spice levels, the actual dishes did not adhere to those descriptions. The spice overwhelmed, making for an unpleasantly fiery experience. Beyond the heat issue, the dishes were merely okay - nice but well under our expectations given the restaurant's reputation.
Service Lacks Attentiveness Service was acceptable but often left us scanning the room searching for a waiter. With adequate staffing, this frustrating lapse in attentiveness could be easily remedied. This also included inadequate attention and communication from waitstaff to guide menu selections, address the excessive music/noise volume, and overcome language barriers - factors which contributed to an unsatisfactory overall service experience all consolidated to a predetermined failure in service and overall dining experience. The waitstaff seemed well-intentioned but well understaffed at the same time.
Ambiance Suffers from Poor Environment Planning The biggest detriment was the noise level and overall ambiance. Poor acoustics made the dining room excessively loud and negated any sense of intimacy whatsoever. Bizarrely, the DJ was situated in a visible, unsightly storage space, further detracting from the atmosphere with obtrusive beat selections.
Potential Being Squandered Sia Restaurant occupies a wonderful space with immense potential, but that promise is not being fulfilled. With proper acoustic planning, adequate service staffing, faithful menu representations, and an overall elevated sense of execution, this could be a gem.
Until Improvements Are Made Regrettably, unless there are concrete indications of improvement in overall aspects, noise mitigation, service consistency and attention, menu accuracy / explanations, and ambiance refinement, we cannot recommend Sia Restaurant nor will we ourselves return. It's truly disappointing, as the location beckons for a first-rate establishment.
We hope management will recognizes the opportunities to make positive strides. This restaurant has the capacity to impress, but currently...
Read moreI'm never sure what to think about this place's cuisine. Honestly, the dumplings are great, I always go for those even when they can get a bit expensive, but I get it, they feel really fresh and there isn't many places around Prague that actually makes these and doesn't just use premade ones bought in asian markets. So definitely go for them.
I'm just never really sure about the main courses. I tried the Yuzu Truffle Ramen with clams, and as much as I loved the clams, there was no hint of yuzu and too much of the truffle. It does sound like an interesting combination, which in the end was pretty mediocre. Then I remember trying a Chirashi bowl, and that one was great, nothing mindblowing but great. Kung pao was okay, but I've had better. This one didn't really taste as much as the dish usually does, more soy-saucy taste and salty. The peking duck is okay, also nothing special, the meat is nice, there could be more vegetables to go with it and the wraps. And lastly I had the Seabass with furikake and wasabi mashed potato, with broccoli and mushrooms. It was nice, and yet, there was one piece of broccoli and 5 pieces of mushroom in total, the rest was salad with Bok choy stems (not leaves, stems) which was a bit disappointing.. the sauce was nice, the seabass as well, but a bit too salty, and the mashed potatoes had way too much wasabi in them, not on a spicy level, but on a level that gave me heartburn and stomachache 😅 so those are my experiences with their fusion food that is always a hit or miss.
Otherwise the waiters are always very nice and attentive, especially with children and even when I took my dog there they were...
