Ok, I'm not one to be angry but this place takes the Cake. If there were negative stars I would give them. I have been living in prg for 2.5 years, I speak czech and this has been hands down the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. My mom comes in for my wedding and this place happens to be down the street from her hotel. First off when we sit down the waiter is recommending we eat the two most expensive things in the menu, red flag number one as most resturaunts have a lunch menu, we flip through the menu and order not what he wanted us to, he takes a big breath and acts like we really put him in a hard place, red flag number two takes the menus and walks off, I hear him say rude things to his colleuges about us, we wait, and wait, and wait, and wait some more, an entire 35 min goes by with no food, we ordered a burger and salad.... These are not complicated meals to prep while half to 3/4 restuarunt is empty.... We get out food, burger is cold, meat is dry as if cooked hours before, the lettuce in the salad is brown in some places. It comes time to pay, waiter is completely non existent...the staff pool around the bar ignoring the customers in there resturaunt while speaking loudly.... We wait another 20 min for a manager to come with the check, she forcibly points out that we did not tip. First off, Waiters in cz make living wage and do not live off tips, you can choose to tip if you feel the food and service were above average. So I tell I told her I do not tip for bad service and gave her a single crown. She mutters a few bad words on czech to me which i responded with czech, flustered she hustles away. I will not be recommending this to any Americans coming into town and I would highly recommend any other tourist to also avoid, I assume Czechs would know better than to come here. Service is terrible, food is terrible, the only thing they have going for them is the atmosphere as whoever did the interior decorations...
Read moreA very disappointing experience. The restaurant is run by two elderly ladies – one can barely hear, the other doesn’t speak English, and both lack even the most basic communication skills.
Upon arrival, I asked one of the staff at the entrance if they had gluten-free pizza, and he said yes. We waited for more than 15 minutes at the entrance until one of the ladies came and asked if we had a reservation. We said no.
She then started a fake positioning act, pretending the restaurant was busy and operated on a reservation-only basis. She looked at the seating chart and acted as if she were managing a packed restaurant — even though the place was completely empty 😂😂😂 — and eventually led us to a table.
She handed us a menu written only in Czech, and then we waited for more than 20 minutes until the other lady — who was physically large — arrived. It was clear she had hearing difficulties, along with a noticeable lack of basic communication skills. She spoke loudly and had visible signs of frustration on her face.
I ordered a gluten-free cheese pizza, a Margherita pizza, fries, and a Coke. She said they didn’t have gluten-free pizza, so I changed my order to just the Margherita pizza, fries, and Coke.
After 20 minutes, they brought a Margarita cocktail and a Coke! When I asked about the pizza, they said they don’t serve pizza at all!
I sincerely hope this restaurant learns how to treat tourists with respect, to welcome them regardless of their race or religion, to treat them with basic human decency, and to show respect for their cultures. I also hope they become more open and welcoming to international visitors.
During my visit to this beautiful country, I noticed some variation in how foreigners are treated — but I have never experienced anything this clearly negative before. Even my 7-year-old son sensed the discrimination and lack of...
Read moreWe had Christmas 4 course dinner. For starter we had duck terrine with pear chutney and toasted baguette. It was perfect. Flavors were on point and texture was incredible. It’d be better if it was with 2 pieces of bread instead of 1, but still terrific. Creamy fish soup with dash of cognac and croutons. Peeeeerfect. It didn’t have fish taste, but was still very very tasty. Even my friend, who hates fish, ate this soup and loved it. It had little pieces of fish. Fried veal schnitzel with potato salad. After starter and soup it was total failure. The worst schnitzel. We were 5 and only one of us had schnitzel that wasn’t hard as rock. Others were trying to cut it with whole strength. You can see on one of the pictures piece of my schnitzel and how dry and too thin it is. Also, it was cold and everyone knows that schnitzel must be eaten as hot as possible, after that it loses its crust, flavors and juiciness. It’s far far away from standarts this type of restaurant should have. I work in restaurant as well and I really understand how hard it is to make so many food and I’m very little time, but chef had to think through that main dish must be served hot and mustn’t be made beforehand or she/he could choose something different. Potato salad wasn’t great as well. I couldn’t finish it. We could taste only potatoes and lemon. It had egg and peas as well, but I knew it because I saw it, but never felt taste of it. Bohemian honey cake. I come from post Soviet country and Medovnik is very popular here as well. And istg my mom makes 10000 times better Medovnik. None of us liked it, it was too buttery and nothing more. Cake was very fluffy though and I loved texture, but cream was meeeeh.
Drinks were great. Service was incredible, the beest. Atmosphere was terrific....
