This is a cute hotel located right down the street from the main plaza. The hotel had a locked door that you must enter, along with another locked door to enter the hotel. It felt weird the first time, but after that it felt like we had our own little home. Our rooms were great. Floors could be a little slippery, so watch out for that. The shower was a good size, and the water was at least warm. They provided breakfast in the mornings when we needed it. We were the only ones at the hotel during our stay, since we traveled during covid, and a controversial election. The main square is located just down the street, and it makes it very easy for walking and restaurants. However when we were there it was shut down several times due to protests. But that was not the hotels fault. The one way road that the hotel is located on can become very busy, and I suggest ear plugs for the noise. It can also cause some complications on taxi or tour pick up or drop offs. We just had them meet us at the main square if there was a problem.||Disliked · The only down side is once you leave the hotel there are a lot of venders to harass you about getting a massage or buying their paintings. Just say no and keep walking. Or get a massage, they say it's 20 soles, but plan on 100 soles. Also, we knew very limited Spanish and our hosts knew very little English so it was a little hard to get across what we needed sometimes, but they were always very kind and...
Read moreI stayed here with my teenage daughter in July/August for one week prior and two nights after the Salkantay Trek.||We loved the location, views and cleanliness of this place. ||It is easy to walk around the Historical Cusco central area and pit-stop back at the hotel for a break or to drop-off our shopping before wandering some more.||Our cab driver from the airport found it a little hard to find because the street seems to have two names. ||The hotel sign is above the doorway (very subtle to be within Cusco rules), all you will see on the ground floor is blue double doors and many canvas paintings in a shop, which you walk through to get to the Hotel door. This is quite normal for Cusco!||If you are taking any trips with Salkantay Trekking (see my other reviews), this hotel is almost across the road from the Salkantay Trekking office and pre-trip meeting place.||The Hostal el Triunfo staff were warm and helpful and happy to send off our piles of washing to be laundered. Like the accommodation, this was reasonably priced and also much nicer than having to do it all when we arrived home!||We also left luggage to be stored while on our 5day trek, which is a great, free service.||I would definitely stay here again on a return trip to Cusco and can recommend to all who want simple, clean, convenient accommodation that deliver an authentic Cusco experience and...
Read moreAs long as you arrive with the expectation that this is budget lodging, you’ll likely be pleased with your stay. The location is hard to beat—just steps from the main square—making it incredibly convenient for exploring Cusco. We booked two rooms: their largest two-bedroom apartment and a standard budget room. The apartment was impressively spacious, with a full kitchen, an incredible view, a living room, and plenty of kitchenware. The budget room was small but functional, with two windows and enough space to rest comfortably.
Both rooms were very clean, the staff were kind and welcoming, and the breakfast was adequate. It included cereal, milk, yogurt, fruit, bread, cheese, ham, and eggs made to order. The breakfast area is tiny, with seating for only eight, but it luckily didn’t pose a problem.
A few drawbacks to note: reaching the reception requires climbing three flights of stairs, most of the staff speak no to very limited English, and there was an odor from the drains—likely an issue in Cusco rather than a fault of the hotel. The apartment was also very cold since there is no central air and the only heaters were in the bedrooms. Overall, it’s a solid choice for budget-conscious travelers seeking a prime location and clean, comfortable...
