If you go through my review history over the years, I seldom give a bad review. This hotel, however, truly "earned" one. To begin, the hotel is very run down outside of the lobby and common areas. The hallways are depressing, the carpet's in bad shape, and the toilet in my room had to be jiggled and jostled to flush properly.||When I checked in, I made sure I'd be getting a $15 stay credit for being a Hilton Lifetime Diamond Member. The lady at check in said, "We're giving you complimentary to our Executive Lounge instead of a credit." When asked what it was, it was described as an idyllic wonderland of free breakfasts, free appetizers, and free drinks. I said "I just want to get my LISTED CREDIT THROUGH HILTON HONORS, and was then told "we do things different here." (Those were the exact words.)||So, after finding my room, I went to the 4th floor lounge in Building B. There were no appetizers and no food of any kind. Also, there were NO FREE DRINKS (unless you wanted a can of Sprite). I assumed the prices were for non-Honors guests, and that mine would be complimentary because it was replacing my Honors $15 daily credit. I ordered a glass on wine and took it back to my room.||Then, to make sure I was correct, and called the desk to confirm. "No, drinks are not free" (except for pop and water!!!) ||"What is the benefit of my Honors credit, then?"||"Well, sir, you get free appetizers in the evening and a free continental breakfast."||"Yes, but there are NO APPETIZERS and my flight leaves at 5 a.m. tomorrow, before your free breakfast opens."||"Well, sir, that's how we do it here."||I then said I'd like to speak to somebody out this policy. The lady on the phone relented and said, "OK, sir, let me go ahead and credit your account for the glass of wine....that way you've received the daily credit."||I thanked her, hung up, and then got my receipt after checking out....SURE ENOUGH, I WAS CHARGED $12 FOR THE WINE! Yup, I was lied to.||Honors members, stay at the Hilton, at the Hilton Garden, at the Embassy Suites.....or stay at a Motel 6 before staying here. The only 2 times I've ever been disappointed by a Doubletree property were in Tucson, AZ and the Minneapolis airport. This one, however, was the worse of the two.||Lifetime Diamond Member here. Close to 1,000 nights spent at Hilton properties. This might be the most...
Read moreHilton always meets our high expectations, but the DoubleTree Airport in Bloomington, MN continually exceeded them. We met family for a quick visit just for one night, but we wound up wishing we could have stayed longer just to enjoy the room. Because we wanted to spend time with family we chose to have dinner at the restaurant in the hotel, Bistro 79. Sean, the waiter/bar tender was the best! knew us by name, served us well, and made our entire evening fun without being obnoxious or interferring. Very fun, very professional. Now a little bit about the hotel and its accommodations. First, you have the best view right out the front door of planes landing at MSP every 2 minutes without any noise from airplanes inside being just across the hwy from the airport. Free shuttle and all, of course. And Mall of Am and Ikea within walking distance. Staff is always great at Hiltons and the cookies at the DoubleTree are to die for. The room was up to the usual Hilton standards (very clean and well stocked), but this one continually exceeded our expectations: The TV was on and welcoming us by name--nice touch! We loved the new glass-in shower stall with rainfall shower head, and the shampoo was unusually wonderful and left our hair shiny and soft. The beds and pillows were particularly comfortable--OMG wonderful. Never slept in one better. And how thoughtful to have a pedistal lighted makeup mirror that was movable! Never ever seen than in any hotel from NYC to Frisco. The hairdryer was a much higher grade product than I've ever had in a hotel, What a difference. The towels were thick and clean. And would you believe the coffee made in the room was great! Usually room coffee is tolerable, at best. I even travel with creamer though I drink coffee black. But theirs was so good, it beat any coffee house's. There is a little food bar near the front desk that has a few items for breakfast. To compare with another nearby hotel we stayed at recently (not a Hilton, our mistake) that cost twice as much (yes twice plus they charged us $12 for one night of parking), and while it offered a free breakfast it was tasteless. It was nothing near the quality the DoublTree Hilton provided at half the price. Highly recommend this hotel. We are now looking for reasons to come back and you can bet we...
Read moreWe used DoubleTree by Hilton Minneapolis Airport as the Room Block for our wedding this April. The rooms were clean and comfortable, but we did have a few issues (poor water pressure in shower, multiple problems with key cards not working, missing padding on the bed for a baby). We also had some weird issues with the reservations where guests who requested a handicap room were not able to get one, or one of our guests was told they had checked out of their room when they hadn't. The staff was so friendly and tried hard to resolve every issue, but there were definitely some organizational hiccups.
The food in the restaurant was yummy, but service was definitely very slow. They only had 1-2 people working at a time, so when guests wanted to have a meal or visit the bar, we had some trouble with long waits. They also told us after a full night at the hotel bar that the drinks all needed to be put on one tab, and we felt a little rushed to clear out at the end of the night because it was just too much for one staff member to handle. That being said, they truly did work hard to accommodate our big group and it all worked out in the end!
Overall, the hotel was clean, reasonably priced, and in a GREAT location. Having shuttle access to the airport and mall absolutely made our wedding a fun-filled weekend! Unfortunately, if you are considering using for your wedding or an event, I would expect delays in responses, poor communication, and a few hiccups along the way. We had a lot of random issues come up with things like guests not receiving their vouchers for breakfast or pre-approved information cards that we provided to the front desk. If you're staying for any other reason, I don't see why you would have any issues. It's a good hotel with nice staff and...
