Bistro 79 — Restaurant in Bloomington

Overall, it was a poor experience. Being our only time there, I can't say if this is the norm. Only one waiter and one bartender on a Saturday night. We were seated right away. Given menus and drink orders taken. Our drinks came quickly, minus the glass of water that my wife ordered in addition to her cocktail. She asked 2 more times for it and never got one. The menu had gluten friendly options for my wife and son. The food took a while to come, but it was hot and fresh. Everyone's food was delicious. We then tried for a half hour to flag the only waiter down for our check it took him 10 minutes to get it to us, another 10 for him to co.e back and get it and our credit card. He went into the back and came in and out to other tables for 10 minutes while our card was who knows where, presumably laying on a counter somewhere in the back. Not cool. Bistro 79 was horrendous! The food took a long time to prepare and the waiter was making me feel very uncomfortable. I ordered an Angus cheeseburger with bacon that looked juicy and delicious but once I tasted it, I quickly realized how wrong I was. The burger was not juicy at all. It was dry like some cardboard and it had no seasonings. No flavor at all. My bacon wasn't even added on the burger, either. Ordered some red velvet cake and that was terrible, too. It tasted like raspberry and the whip cream they used was like shaving cream. They gave me some shaving cream. What the heck? I took one bite and threw it in the trash. Stopped in for a midweek business dinner with friends and Shawn crushed it with the service - even working the bar at the same time! But not only was the service superb but the food was EXCELLENT! While our friends ordered the walleye and steak, my wife ordered the special of the day: a baked AND grilled chicken on a bed of rice with the tastiest curry we've ever had.
