I have never written a hotel review before. I wanted to share my experience at this hotel hoping to help other travelers make an informed decision.
The hotel reception staff is lovely. I made my reservation directly with the hotel and they could not have been more pleasant. Perfect. They were cheerful and accommodating. When I like a dummy couldn't figure out how to work the TV one of them immediately rushed upstairs to help. He was a delight. When I refused to stay in the first room I was given after entering it, the staff apologetically and without argument or attitude issued me a second room. So excellent staff.
Unfortunately, I did have two different rooms. The first room absolutely reeked of body odor. As mentioned above the staff quickly changed my room. Upon entering the second room i realized it too had the faint smell of body odor but I was quite tired, didn't want to be a pest and decided I could live with it. After about an hour I realized someone had opened the window hoping to air it out. The smell re-surfaced when I closed the window.
Further, the bedding was musty as if the sheets, pillowcases and mattress pads had not been washed or sufficiently dried before being put on the bed. The pillows smelled dirty, like dirty hair, as if they had not been laundered...ever...and the bed itself seemed old. Body odor permeated the room and bed...though it was difficult to accurately identify the exact source of the foul smell. There was a large stain on the carpet. An overstuffed fabric chair was in one corner of the room and was obviously dirty.
I stayed all night in this room because I was exhausted. I had been driving for 11 hours and needed sleep. I should have complained about it too but I was simply too tired.
Maybe I was unfortunate enough to get the only two dirty and smelly rooms in this hotel. I hope so. However, I doubt it. The carpets on the main floor and on the floor where I stayed were very dirty, the trim was dusty and there was Built-up dust in the corners. There were insulation (sound barrier) tiles loose from the ceilings and damage to the plastic (rubber?) trim along the floor (it was pulled away from the wall in many places) from being repeatedly banged into....probably by metal luggage racks. The walls were obviously dirty in places and there was ground in food on the floor of the elevator. This hotel needs some serious attention to cleaning.
Before I made a reservation in this hotel I thoroughly read the reviews. There are so many positive reviews I disregarded the few negative ones. However, I realized later the bad reviews were making the same complaints that I am. While the hotel management responded in public to those complaints saying that they intended to remedy these problems it is apparent to me they did nothing in reality. I also recognized that most of the positive reviews are about the staff and the central location of the hotel.
Please consider another hotel if you have severe allergies or are a clean freak. I cannot recommend this hotel. There are several other hotels nearby. If you are a BW fan I would highly recommend driving an extra 20 minutes to the BW Sawtooth Inn in Jerome. (I stayed there on the first leg of my trip but knowing I was going to make a long drive I opted for a closer BW on my return.....I wish I hadn't). I have stayed in BW in Jerome several times and it is clean and...
Read moreI loved how this hotel is pet friendly! The breakfast was decent . Good options. I went with my 3 children. Ages 10, 7 and 3. All in all its an ok stay. The pool was super fun. I really appreciated the bouyonce in it. BUT for some reason it was hard to find and get the employees to restock the towels, which went out like Hot Cakes. I did feel the rooms are a bit outdated, the matresses and pillows were hard and i mean VERY HARD , paper thin and paper Flat and old. No bounce, no cushion AT ALL. You can definitely tell its about THAT time for the hotel to be replacing their Key and important "comfort" features. Thats very important. They make so much money they should put back IN to the business and ReVamp it. Its so needed! I found it distressingly Difficult with 3 kids myself and a dog mind you, to get even enough Pillows for us all to be comfortable! I called over to the front desk at 9pm (decent hour) and it was like pulling teeth with the guy to get pillows! Pillows for gosh sakes! He had a horrible attitude and had a " not so nice tone at all" in his voice. He eventually said the ENTIRE hotel had NO PILLOWS to SPARE!!! Like really?! Why doesnt a hotel have ANY pillows to spare?! Makes NO sense. It was in November when we went, so it wasnt like it's the summer and they were SO full, because they weren't. So with all those negatives being said i rated this only 2 stars. I feel comfort is one of the TOP things a hotel or motel should have and OFFER . Its about making people feel like their at home WHILE and WHEN they're away. This place for me along with 3 children did not see, feel or even sleep in that "Comfortability" piece that a Hotel should provide ESPECIALLY for the RATES they expect...
Read moreI'll start with the goods about this place. The buffet in the morning had good variety, and the waffles were particularly delectable. The pool was indoors and looked nice although we never got the chance to use it because we felt it was a little strange to have a window from the lobby looking directly at the pool. I'd rather not feel like a fish in an aquarium thank you. We also got a bunch of freshly made cookies from the front desk for free which was great. Now to the downsides: The staff were playing video games when we walked in. And I dont just mean on their phones. One of them had taken a full blown TV monitor and set up a gaming station using the chairs and tables in the lobby because he was training someone new and he said he wasnt needed. But our main concern (and the reason for the 2 stars) was right before bed we found a bedbug crawling across our floor. We killed it but were so exhausted from 12 hours of driving we decided to take our chances with the bed. However the next morning when we told the front desk and showed them a photo of the aforementioned bedbug, he merely shrugged his shoulders and charged us the full amount for our stay. I would expect that kind of service from a Motel 6, where bedbugs come with the price, but this is a Best Western. A Best Western PLUS to be precise. In my opinion, they should be downgraded to a regular Best Western. Or even a Best Western Minus for that...
