We decided to try out sleep number knowing that we had 100 days to try things out. After a few weeks my wife and I just didn't feel like sleep number fit what we wanted in a mattress. We decided to return the bed, but found out the $4000 dollar base was nonrefundable! I wish I would have known that up front. Then rather than eat the $4000 we decided maybe we could upgrade the mattress. We worked with the store and the personell there led us to believe we could upgrade with the promotion they were currently running since it was within 30 days of when we first purchased the mattress. They printed out a price quote and told us they would run it through customer service. I asked if I should call customer service directly and was told no. The store never followed up on this. I called and went into the store on several occasions. They never returned calls and never answered their phone. When I went in I was reassured that they were taking care of it. After 3 weeks I called customer service directly and was told they could upgrade, but we had missed the promotion and now the upgrade would cost us an extra $2000! I was incensed. We explained things to customer service and they did finally agree to not charge us extra to get into the promotional bed, although originally it looked like we were going to get she money back. Right now I'm not a huge fan of the bed in sleeping in. It feels like an air mattress. Also, sex is weird in this bed. Obviously can't try that one out in the store, so it would have been nice to know what my real return options...

We are trying to exchange it for something with more cushion so it doesn't feel like sleeping on a camping mat, but they keep saying they are working on processing it. We have been in to talk to them in the store three times and they haven't given us a direct answer. My husband went in a fourth time and they said to call customer service directly. They could have said that the first time. Now it's been a month and we get to sit on hold with customer service.
Update: Customer service was really great. Mia was our agent and she went above and beyond to help us out. Apparently you can't exchange things from the store you have to call customer service. We are getting our new version in a few weeks and hopefully it will be great.
Caution: You can NOT return the base that the mattress comes on. When we tried to do that they said they only return the top mattress. We paid $8,000 for the bed, but they were only going to return $2,000 because the base is non-refundable and there were lots of extra charges and special sheets and things. I think that is kind of sneaky. They advertise a free trial that actually costs $6,000. We honestly felt like the style of bed wasn't for us, so we decided to do the 100 nights option, we were told when we bought the bed that if was 100% satisfaction guaranteed. So we felt confident when we returned the bed we were going to be able to do so, we understood that we would have to pay a return fee no problem. What happened, we were lied to from the beginning. Our Adjustable bed is NOT refundable as we were told by the store manager. The bed we ordered (CALI KING I8) was not what we got, some promotional bed that was a standard king(too short). What I find funny is that they refuse to return the $3000 base but have no issue exchanging it for an upgrade or to the basic base. Which makes no logical sense. We feel that we have been Scammed out of $3000 for a base that we cant use because it's too small. I am over 6 foot tall.. my feet hang over the end hence why i ordered a cali king. My boyfriend is disabled I feel like he being scammed of the little disability that he gets every month. I will NOT be referring anyone to Sleep Number EVER.
