We stayed at this penzion in April 2025 with my mother and my 8 month old toddler as part of a 2 month around the world trip.
The trip to CK was honestly a blast as after visited so many larger European and Asian cities as part of our 2 month trip, this tiny and quaint town allowed us to fully experience some peace, rest and quiet. From arrival to departure, the penzion staff and owner were super helpful. Upon departure, they also assisted with our luggages. Truly a pleasant experience.
CHILD-FRIENDLINESS rating: 3.5/5. My mission is to rate how truly "family-friendly" it feels at the hotel/bnb when we travel around the world as to provide honest reviews to other families/parents who may be planning vacation to the area.
The reason for the child-friendliness rating of 3.5 is because you will be asked to pay extra for a crib. However, we opted against it, and decided that our little one would just co-sleep with us for a night. The penzion did offer high chairs on their main floor lounge/breakfast area.
The breakfast buffet was of limited variety, but also of high quality ingredients and offerings. The downside of the accommodation is that depending on where your room is located, you may have to carry all the luggages up 1 to 2 floors, which is commonly expected in the local penzions due to its history and architecture. While we enjoyed our stay and had a good night rest, due to the penzion being located at the entry of CK town, we could occasionally hear cars driving by, and within the penzion, we could hear other guests walking up the main staircase. But once it's bedtime, it was quiet, and we had a good night rest.
I would rate our stay overall a 4.5/5 but because this is a local business with extremely kind staff and clean rooms, I'll give it a 5...
Read moreTLDR: cute lodging in great location with extremely uncomfortable beds.
I liked so many things about Pension Na Kovárně. It is extremely well located with walking distance to everything a tourist is interested in, has been tastefully updated, great shower and big bathroom, decent breakfast, and friendly hosts (who are only there at breakfast time, FYI). My biggest negative? The most uncomfortable bed I’ve ever had the misfortune to sleep on, and we have traveled a lot in Europe. It was like sleeping on a piece of wood. My backpacking air mattress is more comfortable than this bed. They accommodated my discomfort by giving me an extra pillow and comforter which I really appreciated. My only other niggle was that they provided freshly chopped fruit our first morning at breakfast and then didn’t provide it the other two mornings. It was such a nice touch and I love fruit so I was disappointed to not have it the other days. For the cost of the room, I would have appreciated a daily turn down as well (no room service here) but it’s not a dealbreaker.
I did really like everything else about this accommodation so it’s hard to know how to review it. Good sleep is very important to me but comfort is relative - YMMV. We did have a lovely view of the castle tower from our room which was nice. Flipside was that it is located on a busier street so it was hard to get good sleep with the noise in the room from having the window open. Ultimately, I would try another place if...
