Boney's Bayside Market is a wonderful local business that offers a tremendous selection of high quality food at reasonable prices!
It's not hard to find healthy food to eat in Southern California - we're lucky in that regard. Prices, on the other hand....tend to be extreme, especially in an area like Coronado. Boney's, however, looks to buck the trend of overpriced sustenance.
As many other reviewers have noted, the combination of fantastic food and great prices at the deli in particular is unbeatable. Every ingredient is top notch, from the locally baked focaccia to the Boar's Head meats and cheeses. I almost hesitate to write about the prices because I don't want the secret getting out....but my favorite sandwich is only $5.95 - and it comes with avocado!! And these puppies are huge...it's unbelievable. It does get very busy around lunch time though, so order ahead or visit during off-peak hours. The soups and smoothies are also wonderful, though the sandwiches are the true treasure if you ask me.
The store also has a small but super reliable selection of raw meats and fish, super reliable produce and an extensive selection of specialty foods and supplements. Kind of like a Trade Joe's.
In short - my recommendation is to go for the deli, and knock out some basic shopping while you wait for...
Read moreJust left the store which I go to 2 times a week for fresh good food. While shopping I received a call from my grandmother which I always take. While wearing a mask it was hard for her to hear me. I made a point to find a spot away from customers essentially pinning myself against the freezer section that had no one around me and pulled my mask just below my mouth. Then suddenly one of the staff came up on me aggressively demanding I pull my mask up. I told granny I would have to call her back. The new distancing rule from CDC is 3 feet for more than 15 minutes. I clearly meet that and was frustrated this employee had to play security guard. I wanted to walk out and leave my cart but I have always supported Deb Boney during this challenging time and checked out with a couple hundred dollars of goods. Deb please ask your employees to use good judgment in how they treat your customers. Also fully vaccinated and I know that’s different...
Read moreThe Boney family started the old Henry’s Market and later Sprouts, and while Henry’s is no longer and they no longer have controlling interest in Sprouts, it’s nice to support the last vestige of their family business.
For self service aspects of the market they’re excellent…. BUT their deli is great too IF THEY’RE NOT CROWDED. If they are crowded, then their leaves a lot to be desired: either very long wait times and even lost orders (what?!?). Until they improve, if they are crowded don’t bother with a deli order …. Save yourself the potential frustration, get something pre-made section. Again, the self service part of the market is excellent and they have a good selection of organic fruits and vegetables. 5 stars for the self service, 1 star for the deli service: 3...
