You know when you move to a new neighborhood, and you want to find "your" places? The ones you know will make you feel at home, and will always be there for you when you need something. This is one of those great neighborhood places in downtown, your cheers bar and neighborhood pizzeria.
It's owned by the same people that own the next-door bakery (get it?) so the dough is delish and based off of that bakery-know-how to bake some good bread. It's easy to overlook, as it's gated off after hours, and is on 8th, between Figueroa and Flower, a stretch of street that most people just drive on to get to the 110 freeway. But if you ever find yourself walking there, please do yourself a favor and try it out. The pizzas are so so tasty, and no not every pizza is created equal.
The dough is soft, and fluffy. They are generous with cheese, sauce, and toppings. The mix of flavors is great, and everything is tasty. And they have just about every single condiment topping possible, sriracha included.
You get one slice for a bit over $3, and they have a special of 2 slices and a drink or a slice, a salad, and a drink for around $7. That's not that cheap, but I LOVE...
Read moreI've walked by this place several times and always see people carrying away whole pies out of this place. Don't get me wrong, this place is easily overlooked because it is tucked away pretty good in the middle of a street block. This place looks intended for grab and go being that there is only 5 small tables inside. On a 8pm on a Monday night, there is a party of 4, party of 2, and plenty of people in and out. I got the 2 slices, 1 soda deal for $7, which was a bit steep knowing you can get a whole pie for the price of 2 deals.
Hawaiian -- I'm usually a fan of this, but I didn't feel it here. The ham was a bit lacking. There was an abundance of pineapple on top and a crispy pieces of parmesan baked on which was a nice touch. I wasn't a fan of the crust since it was flaky and was a bit bland on my taste buds. Atleast it wasn't an oily mess which you can usually expect for pizza (cough pizza hut cough).
Bacon, Sausage Pepperoni, Ham -- This was pretty good and I'd probably get 2 of these next time. The whole stick of bacon is the first thing you notice on these, so I knew I had to have it. Every bite had...
Read moreThe best pizza I've had downtown has to be from here. I have tried the custom make your own pizza from blaze at fig at 7th and pizza studio over by la live but those don't compare to how crispy and huge these slices are. Skip out on this other chains and come over to pizza next door.
They have a great deal with the 2 HUGE SLICES and 1 drink for $8 or if you want to go a bit healthier for the same price you can get 1 slice, 1 salad and a drink.
There are plenty of options but my go to slices would be the buffalo chicken and the avocado feta cheese. They're both kind opposites where you get the spicy meaty side on one and the lighter healthier creamy side from the other. Even the standard cheese and pepperoni slices look amazing enough to have on their own.
Haven't had authentic new York pizza but I feel like this is the closest that it could get to that being on the other side of the coast...
