Nothing excites me more than discovering new food spots in Los Angeles.
It's my first time trying Mediterranean food so I was very excited to check out Z Falafel. They are located in downtown LA where parking is a full-on challenge. Thankfully I got an awesome tip from another foodie to park at Ralph's parking lot which gives you 90 minute free parking with validation when you shop at Ralphs. Also, there are parking lots around as well that cost roughly around $5+.
Once you get to the shop, I noticed they have 2/3 indoor and 2 outdoor dining tables. They are are a decent small sized shop.
Now let's get to the good stuff! Z Falafel has a wide selection of options on their menu which can be overwhelming. To play it safe, my sister and I opt for the Combo Grill Plate because why not try a bit of everything they got on that menu of theirs. The Combo Grill Plate essentially comes with beef and lamb gyro, chicken kebab and kafta kebab. It also comes with rice, humus, salad and pita bread. We added the falafel cause yooo it must be their speciality if their store is named after it. The falafel, for those who don't know, is a deep fried ball made of chickpeas of fava beans. The one I got is freshly made from chickpeas.
Now let me tell you, the presentation of the food was a solid 100 in my eyes. The way the food is a mesh of greens, and meats is really your ideal balanced meal. Also, the more colors in your food, the more happy I feel too!
The first bite of the falafel was absolutely stunning. It had a nice crispy outside, and a grainy and flavorful texture instead. It was so delicious that I savage a majority of them on the platter before my sister could get to them. We both absolutely love the pita bread and the hummus as well, but what really sold us was the variety of sides to this platter. The greens were all unique in their own way, and gave us that healthy vibe we so need in our life. Let's not forget about the meat which were garnished in herbs and spices. They taste so yummy and filling. And the best part, everything here is freshly made and prepared by the staff here!
Never thought food that taste this good, and look this amazing could be healthy! It was definitely a meal worth visiting for and I look forward to coming here with friends to get my Mediterranean grub on.
Note: If you would like to order the food on a platter, you will have to request it as most orders are generally serve in a...
Read moreThis has got to be one of the most underrated restaurants I've ever been to. Since it's fast-casual, most of the orders look to be takeout but they have a few tables set up inside and outside.
I've had my fair share of Mediterranean food so I wasn't expecting anything mind-blowing, but Z Falafel blew me away.
FOOD I got the Combo Grill Plate and added falafel and everything was AMAZING. The meat was juicy and flavorful, the rice was soooo good, and the salad had me coming back for more! Honestly did not expect every element of the plate to warrant a shoutout, but it did. The only suggestion I have is to make the hummus thicker, as it seemed a little runny to me, but still very tasty.
Their portions are huge so one order is plenty for 2 people.
AMBIANCE Again, this is more of a grab-and-go place, but you could totally eat your food there. With food this good, I actually hope they expand their seating to be more dine-in friendly because food is always the best when it's enjoyed fresh.
SERVICE Shoutout to Francisco! He seemed to be the main chef there and prepared all of the orders I saw. Since the grill is right behind the counter, you can see everything they're doing. Francisco was super patient every time I came back to ask for more things (extra sauce, plates, water, to-go boxes, bags, etc.) so huge thanks to him.
PARKING This is DTLA so you're going to have to find a parking garage or get very lucky with street parking. Thankfully there's a garage on the corner across the street with $6 parking for 10 hours.
OVERALL Can't say enough good things about this place! Definitely check them out if you're in the area and want something quick and delicious. I'll for sure be back.
PS: Don't forget to check in for a FREE drink with the order of...
Read moreTo the Owner, consider this not just a review, but a desperate plea for you to address the appalling state of your establishment. My experience tonight was beyond unacceptable; it was frankly sickening.
We stopped by, hoping for a decent meal. What we encountered was repulsive. The moment we walked in, the individual with the dated seventies haircut and sideburns exuded rudeness and hostility. But the truly horrifying sight was the snowstorm of dandruff coating his hair, clinging to his scalp, and cascading down his sideburns. It was immense, a revolting display of utter uncleanliness.
Every instinct screamed at me to leave, to flee this biohazard. My wife, however, was incredibly hungry, and against my better judgment, I forced myself to order for her. I chose the most expensive item, clinging to a naive hope that quality might somehow prevail over the filth. It was a small mercy that this walking dandruff cloud didn't directly handle our food, as flakes were visibly shedding from his hair. The grill cook, thankfully, took over. I myself couldn't bring myself to order anything after witnessing the hygiene standards.
But the relief was short-lived. The food my wife received was not just bad; it was vile. She, desperate for sustenance, could only stomach the pita bread and a surprisingly decent hummus. Everything else was putrid, reeking of staleness, especially the meat.
Owner, you are operating a health hazard. The level of uncleanliness I witnessed is beyond comprehension, and the food my wife received was an abomination. This isn't a matter of a bad meal; it's a matter of basic hygiene and honest representation. Consider this your wake-up call before someone gets seriously ill, or your business is shut down for the filth I...
