I'm writing this review for anyone who is considering moving to Sentral. I want you to know the good, the bad, and the ugly. Below, I will share my list of Pros and Cons.
Pros Value: Bang for buck, Sentral is one of the best values in downtown when considering "luxury apartments'. The amenities, condition of the apartments, and appliances, in my opinion, are some of the best for the money (after concessions). I looked at a lot of places before moving downtown, and Sentral was cheaper than other luxury apartments and also cheaper than non-luxury apartments somehow.
The building: This is a newer building with impressive amenities - I definitely showed this place off to friends and family. The pool at the 732 building is amazing. Same with the lounge and rooftop.
Cons Neighborhood: Sentral is located on Spring and 8th St. Spring is dense with bars, which unfortunately attract a lot of "interesting" characters. There is a lot of foot and vehicle traffic. But it gets worse. Spring is where you start seeing a lot of homeless people. If you go east from Spring, it gets worse with the homeless, if you go west, it gets better.
Homelessness and Drug Use: On 7th and Spring, on the same block as Sentral, there is a CVS. This CVS is a magnet for homeless people. I am not exaggerating when I say that you will see people dealing drugs or using them on daily basis. Before I moved here, I thought that what I saw on social media was hyperbole. But now, seeing it with my own eyes, I can tell you it's not. In broad daylight, you will see people smoking crystal meth or crack. To make matters worse, it is commonplace for people to use the bathroom at that corner. This corner is a dangerous cesspool - it's disgusting.
Crime: I lived at Sentral for two years. In that time, there were three shootings either in the building or in front of the building. One of them was fatal - a resident was killed. This was about six weeks after I moved in (circa October of 2022).
Management: I moved into Sentral in early 2022. Management was excellent then. About a year later, key members of management left. Sentral really struggled to get the same level of management back. It was tough dealing with them. Communication was terrible, one hand never knew what the other hand was doing. Before I left in October of 2024, management did improve some. As far as I can tell they are now overloaded and still do not meet the level of service I experienced the first year. Also, I find it disturbing that this building has a high rate of churn. Why don't employees want to stay?
Sneaky Money Grabs: Sentral had Parcel Pending service, which has now been replaced by a "concierge" service that comes with an additional charge. If you don't know what Parcel Pending is, it's the same as an Amazon locker: a carrier puts your package in the locker, you get a notification and then go get it when you're ready. Now, this service, which was $20 a year, has been replaced by the concierge service. The way the concierge service works is that a Sentral employee will drop the package off in your apartment. It's a total invasion of privacy and comes with a monthly $25 charge that you can't opt out of. Something else that is new that Sentral is imposing on its tenants is how internet can be accessed. Before, you would deal directly with the internet provider. Now, Sentral makes you go through Spectrum only, and only allows one option that includes internet and TV, even if you don't want TV. The charge is $80. This is not about the money, it's the fact that Sentral forces you to use these services, which seem like sneaky money grabs to me.
Rent after concessions: Again, Sentral has great value with concessions. But once the concessions are over (after the first year), the rent becomes very high. Just be sure to do the math if you're staying more than a year.
Ultimately, I left for two reasons. First, the neighborhood was just to gross. Secondly, the rent was way too high (despite the high vacancy rate in...
Read moreI want to start off by saying this review is not aimed at maintenance or the front desk staff. As a resident for over 4 years, I wanted to share what new residents should expect from leasing + management, especially Stan and Ahmed.
I have had the unfortunate experience of watching the building's quality degrade in real time. Every single issue that I have seen is the result of mismanagement, penny pinching, and ignorance. Grills have been out of service for 7+ months; gym equipment left inoperable for over a year and a half; and every TV on the roof is broken for around 2+ years. Please try to turn on the TV's on the roof if you go on tour. When they show the building to you they are selling a dream, not reality. Bugs like beetles and cockroaches are being seen in the halls more and more often due to trash from airbnb parties being left in the halls.
Sentral used to have package lockers that worked great, but now every resident is forced to pay $35 monthly for "package delivery service". This would be fine, but they only have one person delivering packages, and it can take upwards to two weeks for them to bring your package up to you. We have already had multiple lost or stolen packages since the switch. It's much faster to go downstairs and bother the front desk to grab it for you. Why am I paying $35 each month for them to hold my package?
Sentral also used to offer AT&T fiber for their internet but now they are forcing residents to opt into a third party ISP that uses Spectrum's lines and force you into paying $85 for worse internet and cable. Who uses cable anymore?? Again, why the hell are we being forced to pay MORE for worse services?
What a joke.
Ahmed tried to speak with me, but when we needed to reschedule our meeting he refused and said "he is no longer going to spend any more personal time with this matter", and ghosted us till this day. His staff said he was in the office when we went to see him, but he said he was out. The lack of communication was jarring. I shouldn't have to contact cooperate to prompt a response from the "Resident Experiences Manager".
All management cares about is how they can turn you into more revenue services without providing any benefit. There's no wonder why so many of the old tenants have called this building quits and it's getting filled with more Airbnbs.
Management doesn't care. They even advertise that they are Airbnb friendly, but will lie to you and say they don't allow it. This causes huge drama with your parking. If you're lucky enough to secure a space, be prepared for Airbnb guests to park in your space, and management will refuse to tow! Their guests can park where they want for free while residents are charged $375 each month to park in a garage where homeless people often break in and assault residents. The parking gates have been broken 3 times this past year, and the solution was to have a guy stand there and let anybody in.
As long as these people are in charge, this building is guaranteed to get worse and worse. Don't let the recent shill reviews fool you. Stay far...
Read moreDO NOT LIVE HERE! Huge mistake. The first year that I lived here was decent. The amenities are great, although I rarely ever used them because on the weekends people have family parties and large group gatherings that typically crowd the space.
I did use the gym and love it however, the stair climber was taken out and never replaced.
The issues ran into the most recent year. Everything has been converted to an app formate. Parking is done via Parkade where they can charge you $250-$400 for a parking spot “depending on availability.”
Rent is paid through the bilt app- if you have two late payments you are kicked out of the app. This happened to me and my credit score dropped 100 Points! Mind you, my rent was paid late because there was an incorrect amount on my ledger. At the time, I was out of the country and cannot afford to be overcharged so I pulled all of my money out of my account in fear that they might charge me incorrect amount on the ledger. Instead of taking accountability for this error, they kicked me off of the bilt app entirely.
Each month for the past year, I had to pay my rent via a cashiers check. In June I paid my rent a few days late on the 6th however, An eviction notice was on my door, and a lawyer was contacting me… it seems that Sentral deposited the check weeks later, after I handed it to them.
The final kicker is that after I finally leave the building, I receive a email from a collections company saying I have over $3,000 worth of damages. My security deposit was $1,500!!! They are falsely accusing me of damages. They sent the request straight to collections, never even contacted me first.
I had a pre move out inspection where no damage was noted and now Sentral is saying otherwise.
RUN FROM THIS APARTMENT COMPLEX.
THEY ARE COMPLETELY UNETHICAL AND DOWNRIGHT LIARS. There is a class action lawsuit against them for not returning security deposits. I wish i never moved here.
Someone was shot in the elevator across the street in the 755 building last year. It’s a horrible management company that overshadows the...
