We went to the ER a second time here at Centennial after the advice of our pediatrician. Our pediatrician felt along with us, he needed to be admitted, monitored & given fluids. The first nurse we dealt with in the ER was very cocky & sure of herself acting like Iâm basically making a big deal out of nothing. She kept talking about his very high fever 104 and above, not being able to keep food or liquids down because he kept vomiting & non stop diarrhea being due to a virus. I said due to this he needs an IV. He canât keep anything down. keeps vomiting everything up, even medication to control his high fever. She didnât think he needed an IV or was sick enough to be admitted.Thankfully the Dr who saw us in the ER & ran a CRP which showed he had high inflammation. Due to this & him having a stem cell transplant to treat autism a few weeks ago. The Dr was concerned as were we that it may have caused an infection. Rapidly they took him into a procedure room & performed a lumbar spinal test. Which proved negative for issues. The Dr still decided to admit him & I was grateful. Now we arrived to our room & Dr. Patel who was the Dr on duty at the time for the actual pediatric hospital came to our room. Just as we had checked in & our son was given an IV. He was annoyed & visibly agitated & proceeded to give me an earful about how he didnât agree with using stem cells to treat autism. That he was a board certified pediatrician & basically knew more about my son and the Dr who performed the stem cell transplant than I do. He continued to the point I started to cry. I was extremely upset about what could be going on with my son. As this was the 4th visit to an ER since onset of severe symptoms literally out of nowhere. After he was done basically berating me. He very frankly said werenât you sick a few days before he got sick? I said yes but I had much different symptoms. Dr. Patel said see you were sick now he is, itâs viral. He wouldnât entertain anything else. I felt like I couldnât talk or that we were in a safe place of care. The next morning my son had ripped his IV out. Dr Patel came in to see us, assisted with cleaning up the blood. But never replaced the IV. My son went through half the day until a nurse was like this is ridiculous & he needs an IV asap. After this we didnât see Dr. Patel again because he wasnât on nights the duration of our stay which was four nights. Three of the other nights Dr. Hoy was on shift, & we never saw him once. The day we were released was after four nights. Dr. Osborne who was very helpful sent an anti nausea med to our pharmacy. Which our son desperately needed to keep food and fluids down. Without it, everything was expelled from his body. We found out that evening that we needed Dr approval before they could fill it. I called Centennial and they were trying to fix it. Since our Dr wasnât on call they were trying to fix it. Dr. Patel was on shift and called me. Left a message saying that he would talk to the other Dr in the morning but that our son probably didnât even need the medication. Thankfully that evening we were able to pick it up. However the next day Dr. Osborne called us to see how our son was. Didnât like how things were going & asked me to go see our pediatrician to see if she thought he needed to be admitted again etc. Once our pediatrician saw our son. She ran tests for ecoli and salmonella. And sent us to Vanderbilt for a second opinion. That evening we found our sons crp skyrocketed to 200. They admitted him. The next day our pediatrician called to tell us he was positive for ecoli & salmonella. While the other doctors we dealt with were supportive & trying to figure things out. The nurses were just the sweetest and had amazing bed side manner. My experience with the ER nurse, Dr. Patel & my non experience with Dr. Hoy has greatly impacted my view of healthcare providers. My son was failed during a time of immense suffering & not knowing what on earth was producing these extreme symptoms. Parents if you think something is wrong with your child. Listen...
Read more(Bad attitude, Hateful Human Being!!!! (Dr.Alanna Patsiokas!!) I went to the hospital a Few Days Ago 10/22/17 with my two-year-old daughter she had a area on her leg that look like a spider bite I took her to the TriStar Children's Hospital ER on Patterson in Nashville,TN and was treated very well by the ER Nurses (Thomas)who was all around amazing!! thanks! w( Dr Allie Evan MD).At first she was diagnose w cellulitis and was sent home with antibiotics the doctors and nurses in the ER I want to give a big thanks to !!! well as the night went on Saturday evening we were called back to the hospital because my daughter had elevated blood cells so we go back to the ER Thomas which was there again he is amazing coach me and my husband made us feel welcome letting us know that everything was going to be okay and that they were going to take care of my daughter she was very very sick temperatures chills vomiting she was not herself !!we get to the Pediatric floor in the upper level of the building third floor and we are placed in a room 3204 to be exact. At first we were accompanied by: knowledgeable, very educated, very compassionate ,welcoming warm nurses!!!! a few really stood out to me Jonelle ,Marinda, and Dyrell (she a girl)these women really enjoyed my daughter as me my husband really enjoyed them for making us feel important while there ;and they were taking care of our daughter. My daughter had Shown positive for a pus pocket in her thigh, which required her to have surgery!! Which is very scary to any mother that has a toddler and feels helpless in a situation like this. Surgery went well she had a fast recovery! we were walk back to the room by the recovery nurse and was accompanied by our floor nurse Jonelle, as she (Recovery Nurse)read the procedure that was taken for my daughter's Health she happened to mention that my daughter had a cultural positive result for MRSA. For any parent or person reading this that is not aware of MRSA it is a souped-up staph infection that can kill an infant! If not treated in time. I had to excuse myself from my daughter's room to take care of personal business and my daughter was accompanied in the room by her father . We had asked the nurse why did she say that my daughter was positive for MRSA and she said that we would have to speak to the doctor on the floor Alanna M Patsiokas) my husband mentioned while I was gone dr. Patsiokas entered the room asking why did we say our daughter had MRSA when the diagnosis was not true!!!! She was very definitive about the situation as I go on to speak to her she was very rude as I asked her a question about my daughter's Health just being a concerned mother who has been through hell the few days prior to this incident I felt very defeated! She was not understanding she was not compassionate she talked to me and my husband as if we were making up our daughters diagnostic and was very just rude I would go on to spell about what else happened but it's just too much to even try to relive again I honestly feel that this Hospital should reevaluate the way doctors treat family when they're going through a hard time it's very understanding that stuff can be stressful but when you're a doctor on a Pediatrics floor it is your job to be compassionate caring and very light-hearted with situations when involving a chop this woman has shown the upmost disrespect a doctor could show another human being I had called the administrated office to make a complaint about her and I was informed by several nurses on that floor that behaviour that she has had with my family is how she deals with other families there for any person who has a child that is sick you want to feel comfortable with the doctor that is treating your child and to allow such nasty human beings to take care of your most precious child is very mind-blowing I hope they reevaluate the doctors that they have working there so that cases like this do not happen again and when somebody is there they treat them like they are their own family and not...
Read moreMy recommendation is to avoid the Children's hospital at TriStar Centennial Emergency Department if you care for the well-being of your child. Following a sleepless night of our three-month-old vomiting in his sleep and having a temperature creep up, we decided on visiting this Emergency Dept to get him checked out. The staff was pleasant, which gave us a false sense of security. The Dr. was completely dismissive of the fact that we felt he had begun teething and belittled us regarding our opinion. Our regular pediatrician confirmed not two days later that he is definitely teething, which could have contributed to his situation. Furthermore, simply because the Dr. is "unfamiliar" with a situation should not be grounds for invasive testing, especially on an infant. This Dr. ordered a urine sample, which requires catherization for an infant. Being new parents, and sleep deprived, we hesitantly agree to this procedure. Our regular pediatrician was angered upon hearing this, as he states that a UTI is highly unlikely for an infant male unless you introduce something that could cause suchâŚlike forcing a catheter. I am mostly angry with myself for allowing potential harm to come to my child, but I am very disappointed with the fact that this Doctor/Staff did not feel the need to explain risks to us at all. Or perhaps they themselves do not know the risks of what they are asking, which is a much scarier thought. I will be contacting the hospital directly regarding my concerns, but hopefully this review can save at least one child & family from going through...
