If you want to read an entertaining and true review this is probably the one.
First off anytime I go anywhere I base my opinions on things like good customer service, reasonable prices, lots of product and variety, and a organized and well kept store.
I originally to this location a about 4 years ago and it was pretty nice the kind of place I wanna go to, but coming back 4 years later its definitely a bit of a mess.
So I walked in a couple months ago with my girlfriend looking for some Super Nintendo Games and some Nintendo 64 Games. We proceeded to look around the store and there were tons of dvds and games so that was a plus and it gave us a lot to look at, even though there was a good layer of dust on everything. But as we got closer towards the counter I noticed a smell, and the only way I can describe it or convey the smell is to compare it to a Porto-Potty on a hot muggy day mixed with how warm morning breathe would smell. So pretty awful, wasn't sure exactly what it was but when we got farther from the counter it disappeared.
So as we were looking at some Super Nintendo games I noticed the stores work space for consoles and repairs which was a complete mess and something that should normally be behind closed doors not just out in the open with leaning towers of old consoles that went floor to ceiling. As well as what looked like decades of dust, which seemed impossible for a store that I'm not sure has even been there a decade. Like have you ever seen an old movie where they find some ancient tome and blow that thick layer off dust off it, yeah imagine that but with Super Nintendo games. I mean do I look like Indiana Jones??? lol Basically when you run a business that deals with electronics you wouldn't want any sort of dust or dirt anywhere near them.
So organization and just the general cleanliness of the store I'm gonna say was pretty bad like a 2 out of 5 if I had to rate it.
On top of that several people came in asking for controllers or cords and they were completely out of any accessories for every system it seemed. Which I can understand a bit for a used store but it was one thing after another.
After the last person had left I noticed that the employee was beginning to fall asleep standing at the counter. It was at this time I noticed how he looked like he hadn't bathed in days meaning his hair appeared to had been shampooed with bacon grease, he had old food stains all over his hoodie, and as we walked back by the counter to check out the Sega Games for a friend I finally figured it out the smell had to be coming from him. I looked over at my girlfriend and we could tell by each others expressions that we both about died.
At this point we had found a few things so we approached the counter and I had made the mistake of taking a breath through my nose I quickly realized my stupid mistake and became a "mouth breather" until my purchase was complete. The employee was definitely ground zero. We both walked outside as quickly as possible and when we got into my car I opened a new air freshener that was in the glove box, and my girlfriend began spraying perfume just to get over the smell.
To sum it all up they have plenty of products at alright prices i'd say, but...
Read moreI'm going to be transparent, I'm not sure how this store is still open. The building itself is pretty run down, all the signage in front of their store is sun faded, the lighting is dim, it's overall not very inviting. But it's not the building that matters, it's the video games, the merchandise, the knowledgeable and friendly staff, and the good prices. Sadly, this store fails in almost all those departments too. I'll start off positive, the staff is very friendly! They're extremely kind and willing to help you whenever you need. With that being said, I found that they really weren't all too knowledgeable on video games as a whole. I came in the store one time and asked if they sold Nintendo Wii motion sensors, and the worker looked visibly confused. They eventually did find what I was looking for, but I feel if you're going to work at a video game store, you should know at least basic stuff about video games. Something else I noticed is while they have a large selection of games, 3/4 of the games they have are Xbox One/PS4. Which I find odd since a large section of the front of their shop is reserved to advertising retro games. The retro games they do have aren't worth picking up. The Wii, DS, and GBA games are purely shovelware nonsense. I couldn't find a single first-party, or even second-party game for any of those systems. GameCube was a lot of the same, a ton of forgettable titles. Essentially no Nintendo 64 section. I couldn't find any NES games, and the picks for SNES were slim. The games you can find for these systems are insanely expensive. Everything in the store is ~150% eBay price minimum. I tried so many times to find something worth picking up from this store, I go almost everytime I visit the coast once every two weeks. But the mediocre game selection, the abysmal pricing, and the dingy environment make this a store I wouldn't recommend anybody looking for retro games at a decent...
Read morePrices are okay, but the customer service is awful. As an owner of a small business, I would never hire the type of people they have working there. There is a younger girl who was working on one occasion who was very nice and helpful. Besides that, they have all been rude and disrespectful. The worst part is this type of customer service was taking place as the guy was training an apparent new hire. As I waited at the counter for a price check, the two guys were talking about one of my favorite video games. Therefore I chimed in on two occasions in an effort to have some interesting small talk as I waited, yet it was only met with an attitude as if I wasn't welcome to be part of their conversation. This is only one miniscule example of the way I was treated there. It may not seem like a big deal, but you should make your customers feel welcome, engage with them. That's what keeps people coming back. It's come to the point that if you mention RVG to anyone in town they don't hesitate to share their unflattering opinion of the establishment. I feel bad for the owner(s). I really hope they teach these kids a few things about...
