Venue: 1-2 minutes walk from train station/bus stops in CBD. Fast food setting with old (80's) style decor. Full of menu and food pictures displayed everywhere. Not packed. Wobbly tables. The tables and the floor were not clean. Ourdoors dining area is available. --- 5.8/10. Service: Long business hours. One frontline staff was rather busy, though it's not rush hour. Get the menu and free tap water at the front desk. Order and pay at the front desk. Normal waiting time for food (with utensils). Polite staff but took our orders incorrectly. --- 6.3/10 F&B: serves various cuisine. Normal food presentation. Normal portion. Rather pricey for such environment, service and food quality. . Passionfruit Lemonade, $7.9/small: There's some fresh passionfruit seeds and basil leaves. --- 6.5/10 Salt & Pepper squid with chips & salad,$29.9: Tender squid- slightly salty. Chips were not crispy. Mixed salad with strong mustard dressing, but too strong for my liking. Actually, we ordered squids with fried rice. --- 6/10

Not sure what the negative reviews are banging on about, as I had a great experience today. I have always dismissed it as touristy, but it's always busy and the food looked quite good. So I gave it a go when my group wanted to eat at another touristy cafe around the corner (the only ones we could see open on a Sunday morning in the city centre). I got a takeaway bacon and egg hollandaise bagel for under $8, which was a touch slow but to be fair there were a lot of people ordering takeaway so it was busier than it looked. The guy wasn't overly friendly (he was a bit stressed) but he was polite and efficient, the food perfectly cooked and tasty. The spinach was very fresh too. The woman who brought the takeaway out was very friendly and no one batted an eyelid when we gently skated inside to order (thank you!). Will definitely return as I now feel bad for having judged it. A great range of options at very reasonable prices and decent portions - won't be going to the rip off cafe up the road again!

Walked in on a Tuesday evening; getting a seat was easy. This is a no frills eatery, one of a very few that's still open at this hour in the city. One really nice aspect of dining here is that they serve the food hot ... Which is much appreciated by this Asian tongue. The hot food does justice to the white rice. Overall taste is decent. Fish & chips are overall ok, hard to go wrong with this item. Would I revisit? I'll try other places until I ran out of options. (Not that the food is not nice; just wanted to try something else.)

I had the most atrocious experience just this afternoon. I went to purchase 2 vanilla slices and a caramel slice all clearly advertised with the name & price at $5.95 each. When I got to the checkout the girl tried to charge me $9.50 each for the vanilla slices. I explained they are only $5.95 each. She went and got the tag which clearly stated “Vanilla slice $5.95”. She looked at it then proceeded to tell me that the price is wrong, they have now gone up to $9.50. I told her that’s the advertised price, same as all the slices. She then kept arguing that it’s now $9.50 each and I said you can’t just make up a new price when patrons get to the register. I told her I would confer with consumer protection on Monday. She then started to accuse me of threatening her, I calmly explained that it’s not a threat, rather it’s the action I’m taking as you can’t decide a new price at the register. She called the manager who then told a whole different story that it’s the “mini” vanilla slice at $5.95. I explained there was no other size (this one was actually quite tiny!) and the price was attached to the tray that these are on. She said I don’t care, they are $9.50 take it or leave it. I told her I would be calling consumer protection and she said well I’m not going to serve you, I’m now refusing you service. I asked why, was it based on my looks or ethnicity as there was no reason to refuse my service as I was prepared to pay their clearly advertised price. She ignored me and walked off. It was a disgraceful experience and totally disrespectful behaviour from the staff member & manager. I’m definitely taking...

Honestly this place was horrible. My friend and I were getting something to eat in the city and came across this place, I wish I could go back turn around and go somewhere else. At first it looked okay and we decided to order a chicken parmi and a seafood dish. The food was okay but the atmosphere completely ruined it, I honestly had a weird vibe from the place after ordering. We ordered and sat down outside BIG MISTAKE, as there was a swarm of bloody feral pigeons everywhere! I get that pigeons are not the places fault, however even before we received our food another table left and as they still had food on their plates, the pigeons just went at it and in the process even knocked a plate of the table. My main issue was just the way the staff handled it especially the manager lady. She literally came out with a spray bottle and a broom and when she went to get them away my friend and I were sitting directly where the pigeons were going so they were flying so close to our damn faces, it was so traumatising we didn’t feel like eating anymore, and may I add that my chicken parmi was $30, which i think is crazy after the experience we had....

Menu is hard to follow as they try to serve many dishes but cant serve one good dish. I had ordered strawberry nutella waffle and It was a mess. I’m sure it was a store bought ready to eat chocolate chip waffle you can get at woolworths, not the Premix kind. It would be better if it was a premix because at least it would qualify as being freshly cooked.

It was slathered with whipped cream with one measly scoop of ice cream and the strawberry slices were sparse. There were perhaps 10 tiny slices of strawberry. Only good thing was they were generous with the nutella. Anyway it was not worth 20 bucks.

REPLY: Thanks for responding, however, i promise the waffle i had that day had chocolate chips. maybe that day something went wrong, because the taste of the waffle was same as toscano brand choc chip waffle you can buy from woolworths. i am sure you didnt do this intentionally so i will give you benefit of the doubt.

Update: upgrading my review to 3 stars because the crepe at one60 cafe next door is absolutely terrible and it makes waffle at breve far better...
