A very famous classical restaurant right by the Vltava river. The inside of the restaurant keeps the traditional style, quite ornate, with an elevated balcony, whereas the external seating has dozens of tables with benches overlooking the riverbank of Vltava. One of the best thing about this place is definitely the seating outside and the traditional czech and local events they organise, including various festivities or traditional bohemian brassband/folklore live music. The atmosphere can be really amazing, even for a Czech. That's pretty much where the benefits end and negatives start: The venue is traditionally swarmed with all kinds of tourist, which means it can get hard to find an empty seat. The food is mediocre at the very best, but mostly below average - the quite expensive roasted pig slice special was grossly undercooked, soggy and tasted disgusting, plus the bread was stale. Everything is quite overpriced, which is understandable, given the location. And the absolute worst is the shady 90s underground practices of the staff. Because it was cold outside, I politely asked the waiter behind the bar if we can sit inside. It was mostly empty, but he replied it's not possible because all the spots were reserved, which is fair enough. So my friend went in and offered a "bribe" - all of a sudden, there was a table for everybody! Obviously, most of the other tables stayed empty for the rest of the night (= it wasn't all reserved). I couldn't believe I would experience anything like that in Czechia ever again! Super disappointing, there are way better places to spend the money around Český Krumlov.

We went to BarVirna in Český Krumlov for lunch, and honestly, it was a bad choice. I ordered two plates, one was fine, but the second completely ruined the experience. I specifically asked for no onion or green onion because I have an allergy. When the dish arrived, it clearly had something that tasted exactly like onion. I mentioned it to the waitress, and she swore it wasn’t onion or green onion. My body reacted soon after, which confirmed it for me. We called her again, and she kept insisting it was neither onion, green onion, nor ciboulette, but it clearly was. In the pictures I attached, you can even see the green onions on the plate. That kind of denial and carelessness isn’t acceptable, especially when someone mentions an allergy. Overall, I didn’t like the place at all, definitely not somewhere I’d recommend.

The location is perfect, and the staff was really nice to us too, both waiters regularly checking on us too. Sadly it's not the case with the food and beverages though: the lemonades are tasteless (we tried three flavors, either one tasted like blurry water), and the food list just lacks any specific Czech cuisine with some of it being negligently made, the knedlíky for example was full of cooking oil on the bottom of the plate. If the kitchen improves the place has possibilities to grow with the really friendly staff, the great location and acceptable prices, but if I were to visit again ČK right now, I'd pick another place.

This is a really lovely place , just by the river. Views are nice, ambience is pleasant, food is of good quality. However - I feel sorry for the owners, hence why I decided to step in and dispute the reviews below. There was a group of violent, aggressive drunk people, who were shouting and ruining the atmosphere. They were demanding to be served whilst being very loud and aggressive. The poor staff had to call the police, as the group were threatening the staff. They are such low life they decide to go on Google and write false reviews, when the restaurant said they had CCTV cameras, which could show the horrible behaviour coming from these individuals. This made me feel sorry for restaurant owners in the area, it must be difficult to deal with so many drunk tourists… Anyway, despite this incident, the experience was good, perfect relaxing stop whilst on a quick day trip.

Please bring more vegan options onto...
