I work in a restaurant as a bartender and I have served for almost 16 years. I am from the US. I visited many restaurants in Prague that gave me great service and I tipped well. This is my review of this place. We got there at first and the restaurant was closed for some reason and we were going to go somewhere else, but miraculously it opened up a few minutes later. When we sat down the waiter took an extremely long time(I.E. 20 MINUTES) to come and give us menus. I get that we are in a foreign country and things work a little different here, but this restaurant was the worst. I realize the Czechs are straight to the point, which I like, but the server was probably the worst kind of rude. He got our order and snatched our menus. I ordered the duck and carefully read the description before ordering it. I have never had duck in my entire life and was excited to try it. We waited almost an hour for our food. Grant it the view and the high quality beer for the dirt cheap price made up for it. I kept careful track of my bill, as another reviewer had stated they charge you more if you speak English, but I can safely say we were only charged for what we had down to the Crown. The duck was painfully dry and the vegetables they were in were slimy and had a terrible after taste. Again the best part of the experience was the beer and the view. I realize it is customary to tip 10-15% in Prague and I was tipping extremely well (I.E. 25%) to everyone else. This guy got the bottom at 10%. And the only reason I left a tip, is because I am a bartender and we have an unwritten code to not ever tip a fellow service industry professional. Shame on you to the bald headed guy that served us. You are supposed to be making a living on your tips and representing your restaurant to the tourists, and most importantly, the locals. The owner should reconsider his employment. If you had a corporate office, I would have called them already. I will be back in Prague, but I can assure you, I WILL NEVER SET FOOT BACK IN YOUR ESTABLISHMENT. AND I CAN ASSURE YOU, ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE THAT I BRING WITH ME TO PRAGUE WILL BE WARNED ABOUT HOW TERRIBLE YOUR RESTAURANT IS!!!! Hopefully the owners of this place will have some sense, and actually read this and consider the kinds of people they have working for them and the food they...
Read moreThe single worst service I have ever encountered in my entire life. We've had four different waiters come over asking if we're ready to order even though we've ordered already.
Waiters with full support of the owner will replace your orders on will without even asking - in our case they've randomly replaced a cherry cider for a regular one simple because the didn't have the cherry and then just shrugged saying: "Is no problem, talk to boss". We did complain to the owner yet he started shouting at us and supporting his useless staff. At the very end the waiter had the nerve to ask for a tip! Pathetic! Just imagine ordering a shrimp dish and they'll just replace it for some fries keeping the same price of course ;) No problem, talk to boss.
Prices are twice the city average. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. The only thing good about this place is the city view but this is something you don't have to pay for.
If you have the least bit of sanity avoid this place...
Read moreI agree with previous reviews - definitely a tourist trap!
If we had seen the reviews beforehand we wouldn't have visited this café.
Con: Relatively expensive Staff shows a strange mix of disinterest and uncomfortable pushiness to consume more Dirty!!! Besides the whole place not appearing too well maintained, the glasses looked like the dishwasher had been broken for a while, staff touched the glasses also on the inner side while serving, and on top of all the straw in one of the drinks looked like it has been already used by someone else before. -- 4 out of 6 of our group had stomach problems after visiting this place!!
Pro: Nice view across the river
Resumé: If you want to have a nice river view you are better off with a good coffee to go on a bench.
Do not...
